Howdy, everyone! Today marks the day that I return to Tumblr! I'm sorry for my absence, but from now on, I will be (tentatively) posting regularly again!
For some updates about what I'm doing with my conlang that the seven of you follow, I completely re-hauled it and removed it from the context of Rain World. I'm very sorry if this disappoints you, since my account here does revolve around Rain World. However, to make up for this, I plan to make a comic. I won't reveal much yet other than the fact that I absolutely am garbage at drawing humans, since I'm a completely beginner xP, so patience might be needed for my project to pick up major speed... so I might need help with drawing anthro and human characters!
Other plans of the comic I can share is that it takes place in a post-apocalyptic Earth around ten years from today after a series of wars and a mutating-virus pandemic ran rampant throughout every continent. There will be two POVs (which will be explored via technically two different comics), one will be in America, and the other will be in Sweden, which I will explain the reasoning of that second location.
I'm still working on the themes and messages of the overall story, but the main ones are family, finding identity, finding connections, and the question of, "how far can you stretch your morals/ethics and still consider yourself a good person?" i.e morally gray areas, and whether if you can justify ends by any means necessary.
What does the comic have to do with my conlang I've been working on? Well, now I have decided to insert my conlang into my comic's world! Furthermore, I've changed so much about the language:
Firstly, the name and the people who speak it have changed. The name of the language is now called Jäptska, and the people who speak it are called the Jäptari. Secondly, the reason why the second the second POV will be in Sweden is because the language originates from there. Jäptska, or Yeftish in English, originates in the Dalarna province in Sweden and branches off the Dalecarlian languages ("dialects") that originate there, like Elfdalian (Älvdalska sdn, Övdalską edn), the Ovansiljanmål varieties, the Nedansiljanmål varieties, and the Västerdalmål varieties. Unfortunately, the only language that has enough media coverage and resources is Elfdalian, which this language is largely based on. Furthermore, it's heavily inspired by Icelandic—and Faroese by extension—which will show a lot more. Elfdalian is a seriously interesting and unique language of the Norse branch of Proto-Germanic, which needs to be studied more thoroughly!
Now, what about Rain World? Don't worry, it's still my favorite game of all time. I still plan to draw doodles of Rain World for the rest of time. Also, I'll replace my old Scavlang with an entirely new Scavlang inspired the the slavic languages later! I haven't forgotten the world I created!
Finally, I also want to make a conlang for the Ori video game franchise. Which branch I want it to resemble has been very hard to decide... I've been considering Celtic and Finnic, and also an entirely different path: what I did for the sounds was that literally listened to voice lines in-game to determine the sounds, which I think I'll redo.
Both of the slavic Slavlang and the Orilang will come much later, but for now, I'll see y'all later! :3
