the nostalgia train hit really Really hard, so you might see me for a bit.
i don't really remember the vast majority of the fandom though :') i just remember some of the characters and stories and stuff i did. and i sure miss them now.
i've been posting some old art from 2019-2020 under #art tag if you want.
okay because i'm getting too into ryuseitai now, i'm helping with the story list. therefore here are a few of the things that happen in that story (in silly brainstorm stage lmao.)
Chiaki's first interactions with Kanata, Kuro, Madara and Keito (they all trauma dump on him/talk to themselves unprompted at least once)
How he viewed himself and his weaknesses at the time
His initial mindset in his first and second year
Kanata's starting mindset too
How Ryuseitai treated Chiaki
Shows Subaru's initial respect and then how he lost it…
Madara learned Eeeeeverything about Chiaki specifically because he interacted with Kanata
Almost everyone tells him he's an ordinary, rare and/or naive hard-working boy.
Chiaki's thoughts on the Five Eccentrics' situation
Madara and Kanata's family relationship
Chiaki's self-fulfilling prophecy of 'I can't do anything to help!' so, well, he does nothing.
Major depressive episode. Chiaki broke down for Hours.
And he then overcomes it instantly?! 'Anything is better than my depression/lack of self-worth/etc!'
Important: shows that Chiaki didn't listen when told 'Do not do this.' on multiple occasions.
Why people bought into Kanata's 'i will grant your wish!' thing.
How the Student Council went about screwing over Kanata personally.
i could probably add more but probably shouldn't until i get through the others lmfao. the tler said theres a lot of newer once that reference it so :')
note: this story is a wild ride from start to finish. i once again found myself bingereading it. for like the 3rd time (the first two being in 2020 i think?)
there are obviously some other very important things with akatsuki, but i don't need to include them in the list so all i will say is that their sections are BRUTAL.
this is always me after rereading:
did i finish the story or did the story finish me?
holy shit there has been A Lot. ty guys i very much appreciate the info, i'm putting the OG reply text under the cut for my own reference. but like. wow. happyele really can't read the room huh.
some of the stuff that happened is so... ???? "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." like are there tangible reasons for the company's terrible decisions? did management change or something?? it sounds very poorly managed if they're chasing away fans who previously enjoyed the games...
on one hand: there's only so many event premises left to do before it turns into the same thing over and over again, so on one hand i don't Really blame the premises getting more and more ridiculous... but i will blame the company for forcing akira to write the same characters for ten years who have already had their character arcs satisfactorily concluded a long time ago...
like only 3 new units in the past 5 years is kinda ridiculous imo. crazyB and alkaloid seemed solid when they first came out (idk, i never got invested) but... you'd think they'd have better mileage out of having more new characters since then. just bring some variety to a series that sounds functionally dead anyway. :')
i feel like it'd be a good idea to limit my fics and stuff into !-era and before... and only skim !! for lore... and take it with a grain of salt lmao. some of the stories were enjoyable (learning from the past my beloved) and i absolutely need a fan tl of altered now (?) but that might be it for the new era stuff honestly.
iiiiiii think i'm... going to get the animated ones by uh. Unofficial Means. instead of the official yt channel. i still really want to see it but haha not going to support the company.
(optional personal silliness at the end of this because i had to put it down Somewhere.)
@konanyeh
i don't keep up much w main story, but the gist is that they shift focus from yumenosaki to the working world/overall entertainment industry. so there are more important faceless characters that are involved with various aspects of the entertainment world.
i'm not sure if there's any order to them, but they've been making animation series of the war era/reminiscence stories.
the tour story Altered has a focus on the eccentrics/old fine, i'm not sure if there are others with a huge focus on the war
there's a laundry list of things happyele has done, i can't list them all, nor am i the most informed-- i get most info through osmosis. there have been some retconning of previous lore and character regression, the amagis (indigenous) have been refered to as "barbaric" and other derogatory terms, ibuki (indigenous) was made to join akatsuki enforcing the assimilation of native peoples into "traditional" japan, we Still don't know what country adonis is from even when he got a lookback story. global, specifically, has been making a lot of sloppy mistakes when translating things and staunchly refuse to refer to arashi with her pronouns-- have even misgendered her in a translation a while ago before they were asked to fix it so. yeah. just to name a few, but they have the vibe of just throwing random ideas at the wall to see what sticks at this point in the story.
many have left fandom/boycotted due to ibuki being made to join akatsuki in the kagetsu event, there was a petition by fans in hopes to retract the decision. it's strongly encouraged to at least not spend money on the game/official merch/streaming official content, anything to not give direct funding towards hapele. anyway hope this is coherent, there's better explanations out there probably
@harveen-denzel
I started playign around the start of !!, the game has really exploded in popularity. There was a surge but a lot of people feel that the writing quality has declined. Aside from retconning, the premises have gotten fucking ridiculous.
There are some war era-related new stories, mostly in relation to Undead. There was also the Origin/Altered story which had a lot of war era content. Undead had a very VERY terrible story which kind of explains how they formed. Akira doesn't care about his job. Some of the stories got so much backlash just for being awful that they stopped listing the authors on new stories. Happyele nuked the fan translations on the wiki to make way for the really low quality official TL in the English version.
The ACTUAL controversy you mentioned, well, that's a longer story. Most of it concerns Akatsuki. I wouldn't call it a boycott )and I hate when people do), there was no concerted effort to force a change and it was moreso just a mass exit of fans from the game in early 2025 (including me. I stopped playing entirely), when a long series of anti-indigenous sentiments exploded into Akatsuki becoming full blown pro-imperial propaganda. It's BAD. I can definitely say more in dms if you want, I think I'm more informed than the average tumblr user. I'm also open to talking more about what Undead and other units have been up to (I'm just kind of assuming you're an UndeadP idk)
To answer your specific stuff in order:
1. There's been a few animated series of popular Remnisence stories. So far Element, Crossroad, and Checkmate have been animated, with more likely to come. They did some Dramatica stage plays, lots of concerts. There were two units added in 2020 (to very positive reception) and another one last year (very negative reception)
2. The war related stories have actually been few and far between, with more of a focus being placed on the animated series. There are only two standouts and one is all about stuff happening outside Yumenosaki to characters that weren't in !
3. I mentioned the controversy already
4. Mixed bag. It's two years behind JP and the translation quality is terrible. I never got onto it because of those things. Since we know they nuked the wiki TLs because of it (which lead to a lot of translators quitting), I think a lot of people would prefer to still have that over the global app. However, we did get the Mysterious Myths gacha from it, so there's that.
... damn.
just. Damn. Wow. whew. this is all a lot. man. ty again guys!
not related to the above, just putting personal stuff down:
i went from like. switch -> undead -> ryuseitai. especially now that the tl website with RST focus is perfect for bingereading. chiaki is honestly replacing war-era!rei and tsumugi as my fav. (you'll see tell if i bring takuya back for oc/canon fun.)
LOL i never really did play, i just read tls and looked at cards for my fix. gacha and rhythm games are not my thing so i really dodged a bullet, huh. like 90% of my fandom time was art, AUs, RPs, graphics, poorly written fic instead.
... yet i still don't remember much after all these years... :')
man, doing a college/university AU where the idol characters are athletes/sports players instead solves soooo many problems with !-era enst canon in my head.
someone has prooooobably thought of this before but. if so, i'm glad i'm not alone with the concept lmao
me, trying to explain chiaki to a friend: he has a horrible case of depression/self-esteem struggles that it seems like he can drown out by physical activity and being extremely busy.
the (2019) "switch as supervillains" superhero/jrpg hybrid au that i have returned to recently.
jrpg!ryuseitai needed some actual opponents so they got these guys. i say 'supervillains' but it's more because they are super (OP) and originally villain-aligned. and due to in-character circumstances they definitely have that feel.
maybe someday i'll talk about the au too. not tagging this one.
