The narrative glorifies Sarutobi so much, but he was awful. What a shitty excuse for a hokage. He did nothing to change the situation that led to the Uchiha clan being killed. You could argue that his hands were tied with that one, but there’s no excuse for the fact that he did nothing to help Naruto. He let his dead friends’ child grow up rejected by his entire community. It’s weird, it’s so clear that Sasuke was essentially made into a ticking time bomb by what happened to his family and his community’s failure to support him after that loss, and it’s clear that Sarutobi played a role in that...and yet, Sasuke is frequently admonished in-text for his actions, while Sarutobi never is. He’s never, ever held responsible by the narrative. All that motherfucker did was facilitate child neglect and get killed by Orochimaru
