in honour of the approaching new year.
Every year.
Every year, I am reborn. I am reborn to die. To die; once more.
Once becomes twice becomes a million times and I keep going.
I didn’t think I would make this far. Younger me knew. I’d be gone by now. But I’m not.
Rise. With the new day. The new year. Not in solemnity, in conformity, in fear.
No, rise in brilliance, in rebellion, in the light of every sun that has shone and will shine.
I rise through the disbelief of success. In spite of what I thought I knew.
Above supposed solutions of cliffs and knives and oceans; I rise.
Rising to the realisation. That, really;
Every year, I have survived. I have survived; once more. That makes this worth it.
Feel that pain. That nostalgia. That grief. Harness it. Survive. One year at a time.
