@saladhatingvegan
It really frustrates me to see how many leftists are so misinformed about veganism. They want radical change and to help the planet but they won't do some simple research. Its exhausting
I think its less about being misinformed and more about the fact that many people want positive change but when it requires them to change something they enjoy or something that is deeply rooted in their lifestyle people act willfully ignorant in order to maintain a delusion that they aren’t compromising their ideals when they are unwilling to change their habits simply because they don’t want to
I think the biggest issue with veganism is that certain people who want everyone to be vegan want people to care about the same benefits of veganism that they do.
If someone is very health concious, they wouldn’t necessarily be interested in the ethical aspects of veganism but it’s very rarely that I find videos or posts that promote veganism in a way that doesn’t include activism and this probably turns people off, especially if vegans are coming off preachy or saying that anyone that eats meat is a monster.
You could also have someone who is looking to reduce their carbon footprint who might not care about the health benefits.
I think if veganism was packaged in different ways it could appeal to more people.
But thats the thing, the “health benefits of veganism” is not veganism. Veganism in of itself is an ideaology. Veganism is an ethical movement, both envrionmental and ethics. Caring about health benefits of eating only plant based is just that, plant based. You can’t be vegan just caring about health. Veganism is more than just a diet
But the thing is. That ethics aren’t universal. Morality differs from person to person. I myself an a facts and numbers person. And when veganism was presented to me I cared but it wasn’t hard for me to slip back into eating meat and dairy because of all the other aspects of it. I’m not trying to give people excuses or anything I’m just saying I’ve been there. And it is very easy to distance yourself from the cruelty. But when I watched cowspiracy and What The Health years later that’s what changed my mind. Not everybody thinks animals are equal to humans. And that aspect of veganism is harder to get people to follow. “But that’s not veganism that’s plant based” everything isn’t change overnight.
One of my big problems with veganism is that it’s all or nothing. And I understand. But then there are people who say “oh even if you just start out by eating less animal products you’re still making a difference!” And you are. We are. But it can be very overwhelming for a group to attack your entire lifestyle. So I get it.
Im not attacking anyone personally but I agree with @it-runs-in-the-fandom
Heck, I’m vegan and it bugs me when people only talk about the animals. I understand that’s what got a lot of people where they are and I am not saying that you guys are wrong but morality is not cookie cutter.
And spreading a message based on morality is much more difficult then spreading a message based on facts.
Look, I wouldn’t be so agitated by vegans if they would just be less inauthentically altruistic? Like if they did more to actually raise awareness for the well-being of these animals instead of shaming people who don’t know or don’t see their contribution as the worst thing in the world. How bout, instead of blaming people who have actual diets or preferences that include meat, why dont you fight those big ass corporations that build those inhumane farms in the first place??? I would much rather listen if you could prove to me that not eating meat would directly lead to the better threatment of animals, but until then I’m gonna be here hatin the government and enjoying my damn life.
What would you suggest we do to fight those big corporations, exactly? I don’t ask this sarcastically, I am genuinely interested in what you think would be more effective than taking away their funding by encouraging people not to buy their products? These are the principles of collective boycott, that we challenge them by hitting them where it hurts, in the demand for their product and their share prices. We know that this is working, we know that veganism is becoming exponentially more popular. And yes, alongside this we are picketing, leafleting, holding vigils and protests outside slaughterhouses, but we need more people to join us in this, and to do that we need to encourage them to go vegan.
A letter writing campaign is never going to convince Tyson to stop building factory farms, the only way that will ever happen is if people stop buying what they are selling. Of course it’s the corporations who abuse the animals, but consumers absolutely do share some of that responsibility because they are the ones who pay for it. Tyson only do what they do to fulfill the demand which consumers create, and until that demand is taken away they will never stop. Reducing the demand for animal products directly impacts supply, i.e. how many animals are being slaughtered, that is the entire point.
Collective boycott and direct action the only thing that has ever worked against large corporations, we don’t do it because it’s fun, we do it because it’s effective. The more people who stop consuming animal products to the extent that they are able to, the less animals are suffering. I realise that what we are doing inconveniences and annoys people, and I wish it didn’t, but I won’t apologize for the fact that we have to put animal lives above consumer feelings.
Dude, sorry if you hire an assassin but never go near the dead guy, that doesn’t mean you aren’t responsible.
Seriously
Put it in perspective
And just keep an open mind here for a second ok
If you hire someone to go out and kill other people for you to eat, then they do all the killing, you don’t have to lift a finger. Hell they’ll even fillet it for you.
But then they bring the human meat back to you and you eat it
In a court of law, and ethically speaking, you are partially responsible for that death.
And if you stopped hiring the assassin, they wouldn’t have a reason to go out and filet people.
Money talks a lot more than actual words do in business.
This picture was taken during cooldown so the time isn’t right, but I did TWENTY minutes and went ONE WHOLE MILE on the elliptical. I usually have to literally push myself to get half a mile. Changes are happening 🙌🙌
Does anyone want to be my internet buddy and we can keep each other accountable and share what we ate and remind each other to excersize and just motivate each other to do better
Do what you can!!!! Start now!!!
I used to not exercise. Cause I knew I couldn’t do it well. At most I had a few minutes in me before I’d collapse. My joints hurt, my body ached, and I couldn’t breathe.
And I saw those articles, telling me it doesn’t count unless it’s long. It doesn’t count unless it’s difficult. It doesn’t count unless your heart races. It’s pointless unless you’re lifting. It’s pointless unless you’re doing cardio. And so on and so on.
So I kept saying to myself: what’s the point?
WELL HERE IS THE POINT.
Move anyways. Do what you can. You can only walk for 5 minutes at a time but you can do that 4 times a day? FUCKING DO IT THEN. You can dance around in your house for 10 mins a day? THEN DO THAT.
Even if what you can do now feels like nothing, do it. Don’t wait till you hit a certain weight to move around freely. Don’t tell yourself you shouldn’t bother cause it’s not enough. Just move. I don’t care if you don’t end up sweating. If you don’t burn enough calories. Just move.
Cause you know what happens?
IT BUILDS. AND IT GETS EASIER AND YOU FEEL BETTER.
So do that 5 minute cardio. Park further. Lift some small weights, stretch when you can. And before you know it, you can do more. You don’t have to be the best, you just have to start.
Yess my workouts are short and non intensive but it’s what my out of shape self can handle and after a week of doing it consistently I was able to comfortably increase a steady speed on the elliptical from 2.8 to 4.2 for ten minutes and tbh you don’t want fast results and drastic changes it’s not good for you to lose a ton of weight at once. Do what you can, push yourself a little bit, but just do anything.
My brother is going pescatarian and I don’t know if that because of me but I like to think I had a little bit of influence on it 😊
I’ve emailed a few British associations and boards to try to figure out whether or not I could be a dietitian over there after getting my certifications in the US and they always sign emails with “Kind Regards” and it’s probably a totally normal thing over there but I like it so much more than “sincerely” or “thank you” because I usually say thank you in the email anyways but I’m gonna start signing emails with kind regards now
The cheese argument is so annoying
Yes vegan cheese is different from regular cheese
But yknow what
You don’t
Need
Cheese
Shocking
I’ve never been one for spiritual stuff and when people talk about feeding your mind and soul it used to make me wanna vomit but honestly since going vegan I haven’t felt much of a change physically. I’m not more energetic or less tired, but I’m not worse. So I figure why stop. But I can’t really explain how I feel better. Because it isn’t physical. And I’m not struggling any less with my mental health. The only way I can describe it is that my soul feels better. It feels lighter, and cleaner. And I don’t know if that makes sense. But it does.
me when my room is being haunted by ghosts
It will be a cold day in hell before people convince me eating fast food is cheaper than eating nutritious food one buys at a grocery store. And no. I'm not talking about the special cases who don't have access to food and resources so they're only option is McDonald's. I'm talking about the people who eat at mcdonalds twice a day and spend $3-8 per meal then preach how "well if you can AFFORD to eat healthy than by all means" you can eat much healthier than that for less than $42/week ok.
You can. Frozen veg, rice, beans, all better than a quarter pounder, all much cheaper.
One of my professors tried to tell us that healthy food is more expensive. And if we don't believe her go to a grocery store and compare the costs of juice and soda
Here's the thing
You don't need either!!! Drink water! The cheapest of them all and you actually need it to survive!
Things that are marketed as natural and healthy are more expensive. But those things are usually processed, and not all that great for you anyway!
And you'd be much better off with fresh or frozen produce
Fast food
Is not
Cheaper
It is more convenient
It saves time
But it is not cheaper.
Treated myself to this chocolate strawberry cake from Whole Foods for making the deans list twice in a row ☺️. Topped it with Trader Joe’s Coconut milk strawberry icecream 🤤
Omg
I was there last night and was so tempted
Settled for a cupcake
Congrats on the Deans List!
Everyone in Infinity Wars gonna be complaining about how hard these last few years have been for them until Thor rolls up with no hair, no hammer, and one eye.
#“also my dad died”
Don’t forget “my planet had to be destroyed to keep my sister from killing like the whole universe so now me and all my people are refugees. But hey, Loki’s back, that’s good news!”
Peter(raises his hand in the back): “…My homecoming date‘s dad turned out to be my arch nemesis and a building fell on me!“
Thor (smiles and gives a thumbs-up): “Good for you! (aside, to Tony)…Who is that person? Do we know him or did he just show up?”
T’Challa: My dad died, too.
Thor: I apologize for your loss, I know how it feels
Thor: (To Steve) Who is that handsome man dressed like a kitten?
Starlord: My dad turned out to be this giant, planet eating god and tried to kill me so I had to kill him.
Thor: These things happen sometimes.
Thor: (to Banner) Are we just picking up strangers with sad family stories or…?
This is now canon, you can all go home, there’s no need to see infinity war
sometimes life is like that
Somebody did beautiful fanart???? Of a post I contributed to?????? This is amazing????????
