I called my doctor on Wednesday expecting at the most to have the receptionist put him on the phone to talk to me about the lump under my arm. I was mostly curious whether it was likely to be from the Bactrim and if it would just go away on its own. Instead she rescheduled my appointment and got me in the next day. So on Thursday I went and he had a female doctor with him for whatever reason and the two of them talked to me about Lyme things. He felt the lump and told the other doctor to feel it and it was funny to me because it seemed like they got excited about it. The other doctor was like, "WOW! It's like a golf ball!" I get how a doctor could be intrigued by something like that so I didn't really mind but their enthusiasm was a bit unexpected. My doctor put me on Ceftin which was actually one of the first antibiotics he tried but since the other antibiotic wasn't working too well he took me off both. He said to stay on the Bactrim and add Ceftin and if the lump is still there in two weeks to make an appointment with a gynecologist for a full exam. I've been on the Ceftin for about a day and a half and it's still there but I imagine it takes a few days to work. Honestly tho if it's still there in a few days I'll call and make an appointment, if anything I can always cancel it if the lump goes away in the meantime. I hope it does, I had to sleep with a shirt rolled up under my arm last night to keep pressure off it, and it hurts too much to even raise my arm all the way. The lump is big enough for me to fit three fingers on it, and I'm trying to keep a close eye on its size. I can't tell if it's getting smaller but it doesn't seem to be getting bigger so that's good. My paperwork from the doctor now lists bartonellosis and lymphadenitis acute in addition to Lyme. I left my appointment feeling slightly annoyed tho, because I had a bump on my hand that's been bothering me and when I called on Wednesday I specifically asked if it was something the doctor could check. Being a Lyme doctor I didn't know if he would have the equipment there to deal with something like that and I even mentioned a biopsy on the phone, not that I necessarily thought I needed one but just to see if she would say "oh the doctor can't do that here, you would need to go somewhere else." but she didn't. She said he could look at it and I also mentioned it to the nurse when she was checking my blood pressure and all that and she said she would mark it down for the doctor to look at. When he had finished everything else and hadn't mentioned it I brought it up and he just kind of looked it over and said about getting it checked by my "family care doctor" if it doesn't go away. When I was waiting for my bill I could hear him talking to the other doctor about how he doesn't like to do more "general practice" things and he likes to just focus on Lyme and basically told about how people just come up to you because you're a doctor and ask about all kinds of random health things. It was kind of irritating to me because I hadn't done that. I specifically asked ahead of time if I could get it checked there or if I had to go somewhere else BECAUSE I know people do annoying things like that and I didn't want to be one of those people. So I guess I'll see what happens with that and if it doesn't go away I'll find another doctor to deal with that. I just wish someone had told me when I asked so I wouldn't have wasted his time.
