So I've wanted to do this article for a while, although the sales industry on the whole is a great place to work, we still have some area's and also some people that tarnish what most of us take great pride in. So if you practice NLP in sales I take great pleasure when I say this......FUCK YOU and your piece of shit mind tricks!!!! For those of you who don't know what NLP stands for, its neuro-linguistic programming. Described as an approach to communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in California, in the United States during the 70's. People who practice it will tell you that it can be used for therapy to treat phobias, depression and other disorders but if you scratch beyond the surface, those same people upload videos on YouTube giving detailed descriptions of how to cheat and pick up girls using it......so il let you guess which aspects of it they prefer using it for. On a side note if you actually went out an talked to girls like a normal person an not a creepy dick head you would probably get a lot further. I have no problem with NLP being used for therapy and from what I have read that was it's original intention. What you quickly realise though is how in the wrong hands it can be twisted very easily to deceive life's less mentally fortunate. It gained some notoriety in the Neil Strauss book ' The Game ' where a guru used it to pick up women and was described as mind control. I'm not going to bore people by describing the techniques, apart from one. Emotional anchoring described as 'Anchoring in neuro-linguistic programming is a term used for the process by which you apply a gesture, touch or sound at the peak of a state, either in oneself or someone else. The said anchored state can then be recalled or re-activated by reapplying the gesture, touch or sound. Anchoring is a neuro-linguistic programming term for the process by which memory recall, state change or other responses become associated with (anchored to) some stimulus, in such a way that perception of the stimulus (the anchor) leads by reflex to the anchored response occurring. The stimulus may be quite neutral or even out of conscious awareness, and the response may be either positive or negative. They are capable of being formed and reinforced by repeated stimuli, and thus are analogous to classical conditioning. Basic anchoring involves in essence, the elicitation of a strong congruent experience of a desired state, whilst using some notable stimulus (touch, word, sight) at the time this is most fully realized. In many cases, repetition of the stimulus will re associate and restore the experience of the state. So ask yourself, would you like someone using that shit on your grandma, your sister or even YOU to sell you something? I sure as fuck wouldn't. People have given sales a bad name for years by using manipulation, and this is manipulation at its very worst. Would you sit with a potential prospect an tell them at the beginning of a pitch 'oh by the way I'm gonna try an mind fuck you into buying today'.....NO you wouldn't. Sell with integrity........help people find a need and genuinely help them, don't manipulate them for your own benefit. So my point is if you sell using NLP, just fucking stop. Get some proper training not rely on some really shitty jedi mind trick BS. If you put half the effort Into actually helping prospects as you do trying to trick them you would probably be a pretty good salesperson.
