The Chinese Communist Party does not want to be held responsible as the source of the coronavirus. What is surprising is that the mainstream media, politicians and the World Health Organization would adopt China’s anti-American disinformation and silencing efforts. Any reference to China is now “racism” and while Trump is berated daily, China is consistently praised for its “transparency” and “leadership,” legitimizing their foul play and deceit.
Let’s remember it took months before China alerted the world about the disease, allowing it to quickly spread globally especially during the Chinese New Year mass travel period. Rather than addressing the issue, China arrested journalists and doctors who tried to sound the alarm. They also blocked information on social media, removed all news stories that attempted to report accurate infection numbers, ordered the destruction of lab evidence, stopped independent authorities from investigating it and then claimed the virus originated in the U.S.
It took until February 10 for the WHO to even send a team to China. They continued to lavishly praise China as they downplayed the threat of the coronavirus, taking months to classify it finally as a pandemic because that “might spook the world further.” This pro-China attitude from the WHO might be explained by China’s efforts to “tirelessly work behind the scenes” in ensuring Tedros Adhanom became the WHO’s director-general.
Tedros previously served in the government of the violently repressive Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front. This movement was responsible for human right abuses such as torture, repression and electoral fraud. During his time as health minister, Tedros was known for covering up three cholera outbreaks. Once ushered in as director-general, Tedros quickly repaid China’s support. The first day after his election he expressed support for the Chinese Communist Party’s claim over Taiwan. Not long after, he appointed dictator Robert Mugabe, a China ally, as a “goodwill ambassador” which was described by diplomats as an obvious “payoff.” This support was quickly reciprocated when China funded a new $80 million CDC in Tedros’ country, Ethiopia.
Instead of investigating or writing about China’s dirt machine working in real time as we watch the virus rapidly spread across the globe, journalists are more interested in writing their own pro-China, anti-American virus hot takes. China does not just want to hide their mishandling of the outbreak but they want to blame the origin of the virus on the United States and paint themselves as heroes saving the rest of the world from the pandemic they started.
Disputing the name “Wuhan virus” is China’s first big hurdle in distancing themselves from the virus and the media and politicians are only too happy to play along. Calling the virus by its origin name, a long-held practice of naming new diseases is now according to our media “conservatives” deploying “racist tropes.” CNN even attacked Trump as being xenophobic because he used the word “foreign” to describe the virus. It kinda sounds like we’re instead meant to think of it as an American/Western disease, doing China’s work for them.
Aside from the constant stressing that any reference to China and Wuhan or the world “foreign” is racist and any attempt to control our borders and stop the spread is “xenophobic,” the media and politicians have also spread countless misinformation and anti-Trump fabrications, everything from “Trump thinks the virus is a hoax” to “Trump refused testing kits from the WHO.” The praise for a communist regime whose tactics have cost countless lives around the world is not just un-American but disgusting. But what’s even more messed up is their willingness to aid in the Chinese regime’s propaganda and misdirection efforts.
Just now, after over 40,000 people tweeted #ChinaLiedPeopleDied, it began trending nationally. Within moments, the hashtag was instantly replaced with #TrumpLiedPeopleDied despite having a fraction of the tweets and the original hashtag vanished from the trending list altogether.
Although it’s hard to imagine now, this is bigger than the Wuhan virus. Authoritarian regimes like China are always seeking to challenge the United States and the West. China is never going to stop using coercion to seek change that serves their interests. This was true before the Wuhan virus and it will be after. The media’s willingness to share an American enemy’s talking points has aided the enemy and hurt Americans. If that doesn’t make them the enemy of the people, what ever will?
Yesterday, China kicked out all American journalists from the country. Could you imagine if that happened in America? Maybe being faced with real tyrants for once will make our journalists and media finally reconsider their priorities.
