PSA - FUCK PLAGIARISM AND FUCK AI

I knew I was bound to deal with people copying my work again at some point.

I'd say it comes with the territory, but that's a load of shit honestly. Writing fanfiction and choosing to post it on public forums shouldn't go hand-in-hand with hours, days, or weeks worth of effort being ripped off and regurgitated under someone else's name. Maybe that's just wishful thinking, but I like to think that most people still have a semblance of integrity that helps them differentiate between right and wrong.

The fact that in this case my work is being put into fucking AI chat bots just adds insult to injury.

Introducing lilofromrio, plagiarizing live from their mother's basement.

It was brought to my attention that they've essentially uploaded parts of one of my fics into a couple Sebastian Sallow chat bots. The real kicker? Apparently they charge money for some of the bots they "create" LMAO. Broke and talentless??? Pick a struggle.

Copy and pasted excerpts from my fic Restraint. Slightly altered in some areas, but otherwise the same. The culprit has also done the same for a few of their other Sebastian chat bots, and while I recognize two of the stories, I can't remember who specifically wrote them. SO I'll put those screenshots down below in case anyone wants to pass the word along to the respective authors.

This person was also on Tumblr which would explain how they came to find so many stories to cherry pick from. According to this post made by someone else who faced the same unfortunate fate in October, Lilo has since deleted their Tumblr and even changed their c.ai username to what it is now.

I'm mostly posting this to just bring awareness to the situation. I don't use c.ai so I don't know how diligent their support/reporting system is, but I did report the account this morning. Since this is something that's apparently been happening since October (maybe earlier, I don't know), I doubt anything will come of it.

If you're a HL writer and you recognize any of the prompts in the above screenshots, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. If you're a HP writer whose posted work for Remus Lupin, Regulus Black, Sirius Black, Severus Snape, or James Potter, it might be worth checking if your work is featured in any of this user's other chat bots.

There's... a lot.

All that to say, I'll be debating some changes in the coming days. As of this morning, my Ao3 account is now only accessible to users with registered accounts. I should have done that a long time ago. As for Tumblr, I'm not sure what more I can do to avoid this in the future apart from taking down my fics/deleting my masterlist. They've all already been reblogged to high hell, but like... better late than never? Maybe???

I really don't want to do that, but I'm also really sick of dealing with shit like this. AI is a blight.
