Some Nights || Salvador & Simone
When he looked up at her, Simone took an instinctive step back. She wasn’t always the best with interacting with people, although at this point, it didn’t really seem she had a choice. This is what her curiosity got her. Taking a tentative step into the room, she kept her eyes on the man on the couch. He looked harmless enough, and he seemed nice. Although she knew very well that people weren’t always what they seemed. Shaking the thought from her mind she made her way to the couch, perching herself on the edge of one of the cushions.
When he said he was a guard, Simone smiled slightly to herself, the mystery was solved. It explained why he didn’t have a colored wristband, like the orange one secured to her wrist. Or why he didn’t much look like a doctor. Plus she hadn’t ever seen a doctor drinking. When he spoke, her thoughts were snapped back to reality. Lifting up her arm, she held out her wrist with the band on it. It contained her name, age, and level, though her diagnosis wasn’t there.
Sal tiled his head to look at the wristband. "Simon. No wait, Simone? I can't even read anymore. Si-mo-ne Kingsly, right? Okay, sorry for that, my brain isn't completely functional right now." He smiled and looked up at he while leaning back. "You're not much of a talker, are you? That why you're here, you're mute? That's rough." He said, not feeling comfortable by talking a lot, probably creeping the girl out with all that blabbering. He took a deep breath and exhaled slowly. "I don't know how to converse with people, as you noticed, but it's nice to meet you. And you should be in your room, it's almost midnight. The guards here really don't take their job seriously, do they?" Sal mumbled, glaring over at a guard who passed the door, listening to music through his headphones. "Lazy asses."
First impressions
Alec listened to the other man, and only grew more confused as he went on. It was a foreign concept to Alec to think that someone could like there job more than their family, but Alec wasn’t one to judge. He thought for a moment before answering, “Uhmm…. No, not really.” Alec chuckled weakly. “I don’t really know what I want to do yet. But it’s good to hear you’ve got everything sorted out. I’m still bumbling about.” Alec laughed. “That’s alright,” Alec said happily, “I’m sorry. I know it sounded like I thought you didn’t like your job, but I didn’t mean it. It’s good that you like your job. Great in fact, not many people like what they’re doing.”
“Thanks… But like I said, I couldn’t accept that. Like you said it costs a lot, and I just… don’t feel comfortable taking that… You know?” Alec stuttered, finding it harder to say no. Alec listened intently to the other man, almost feeling that he should be taking notes. He nodded at everything the other man said, and at times his eyes would light up at the image. Alec shook his head furiously when the other man stopped talking, “Why are you apologizing?” Alec almost laughed, “I’d get carried away too, not that I mind. That sounds incredible! I can’t wait to go there myself. I’ve researched stuff on my own, but it’s great to hear from someone who’s experienced India first-hand. U-da-pur? Was it?” Alec asked, trying to remember the name, having a hard time even pronouncing the word. “…And what what the other one? Corgi?” Alec asked, laughing as he thought, and said the name of the breed of dog, knowing it wasn’t exactly correct.
“Well, each to their own. But in that case I don’t think you’re going to like what you see when you open that door.” Alec said, realising a lot about this fellow man, was confusing to him. It wasn’t bad; he just didn’t understand some of the things he said. But that’s what was interesting about him, he supposed. Alec noticed Sal roll his eyes, and Alec looked at him, “Hey, I wasn’t being arrogant”, Alec chuckled. “I really didn’t notice… But you know, a little attention from the ladies never hurt anyone.” Alec smirked, nudging the army man’s arm with his elbow. “Well, thanks?… I can see why they would go for you too. I suppose the army man gig, goes down really well, huh?” Alec laughed. They turned the corner, and Alec realised they were in the same corridor as his own room. But he was soon distracted again by Salvador’s words. “…Thanks…Sorry, I guess I’m just not used to get compliments from other guys…” Alec said, running his hands through his hairs. As Alec waited for Salvador to open the door, he looked around and remembered his room was the one right across from them. Alec tapped the army man on the shoulder, “Hey, I guess we’re neighbours.” Alec grinned, gesturing to his own room right behind them. All the doctors’ rooms were in one corridor together, while the other occupations were grouped in separate corridors.
Alec didn’t walk into the room with Salvador, and stood awkwardly at the doorway instead. Partly because he was filthy, but also because he didn’t feel they knew each other long enough, and he didn’t want to overstep any boundaries.
Sal shook his head. "Sorted out? Barely. the only thing I got sorted out is my job and that's about it." He grinned and shrugged his shoulders lightly. "You don't need to apologize, I know many people think that I don't like my job after hearing all the shit I have to do every day, but it keeps me occupied." Sal smiled happily, but soon returned to his usual pokerface.
"I get it, I get it, but if you ever need a hand, just send me a message and I'll take care of it, a'ight? The flight expenses, you know, just call me, I always answer." He nodded vaguely with a small smile on his lips. He didn't usually offer big things like this, but he was in a great mood today for once. "The internet doesn't have nearly enough info about India, so researching only scratches the surface. And It's pronounced "U-dee-pur" but the "r" is pretty silent at the end. A--nd Coorg sounds a bit like a Corgi, but strangely enough, I saw very few dogs in that city. Udaipur is also called the City of Lakes, because it's actually stationed in the middle of many lakes, a little like Venice of East. Hope you're not afraid o' water." He chuckled lightly.
Sal made a face when the other told him that he wasn't being arrogant. "I know, you just sounded like it." He said before pausing, thinking about 'a little attention from ladies never hurt anybody'. He chuckled nervously and nodded silently, hating how if he had opened his mouth, he'd have said something stupid like 'well son i'm not into women'. He looked over at Alec when he mentioned the army gig, and it was something he had heard many times. "Well, yeah, women seem to have a thing for the soldiers, but it's really disturbing at times when they try and ask you about it." He frowned and looked to the side, awkward by the question even if he tried to hide it. "You're not used to get complimented by guys? That's wrong. That's so wrong on many levels. But then again, I compliment most of the people I like." He paused and bit the inside of his cheek. "As a friend, sorry, that sounded weird." He added and licked his lips to distract his awkwardness. When he heard that they lived across each other, he looked over his shoulder with a smile. "Nice. It's useful to live close to a guy that you know. But no sleepovers, okay?"
"What you standing there for? C'mon in. And nah, I don't mind that you're a little dirty, dirt and I have always been close. Literally. Very. Close." He said and nodded seriously. Most of his days were involving getting mud all over himself and just go with it, and he didn't really mind getting his room a degree filthier, be it good or bad. After a small awkward silence, Sal shifted a little and crossed his arms over his chest. "So... Any questions? Now's your chance, I really need to change these pants because they're still wet and it's uncomfortable. " He patted his thighs, then wiped his hands on his shirt.
Dreaming of an Absolution || Sauri & Salvador
When she had first came to Thornewood, Sauri was feeling rather uncomfortable speaking about her marriage, mainly because the rest of the patients would judge her rather harshly about the age difference she and James had. But it didn’t matter anymore. She had made some crucial choices in a young age, but regretted nothing. Whatever has happened, has happened for a reason. At least, she knew her step-parents didn’t give a damn. They were just trying to replace their dead daughter, by transforming Sauri into the other girl.
She glanced up at the man, trying to read his expression. He was obviously shocked. Well, he wasn’t the first… “I was almost seventeen. We run away when I was sixteen and married about a couple of months later.” she explained, turning her attention back on the picture, running her thumb along her husband’s face. She swallowed and blinked several times, trying not to let her emotions take over again.
"I won't judge you here, it's below me. Love tends to be so much easier when you're young, I know." Sal nodded and crouched down in front of her while she looked at the picture. "How was he like? Treated you nice? You look happy in that picture, so I guess you miss him quite a lot." He noted and shifted a little. He didn't know what had happened to James, but it couldn't be a reason why Sauri was in the facility was it? He really needed to read the files tonight.
"And I'm sure he misses you too, and is looking for you if he doesn't know you're here. You're a cute girl, I would definitely look for you if you were taken away from me." He smiled at her and glanced at the back of the photo, trying not to feel too guilty for accepting the age difference. The fact that Sal had access to FBI files crept into his mind and he cleared his throat. "You know, I could find out where he is, if you give me about a month or so. I know where to look, so if it would ease your mind..." He shrugged his shoulders. "I could find it."
Some Nights || Salvador & Esmeralda
Esmeralda usually would have argued with him, but she really felt like this wasn’t really the time for this. The alcohol was quickly getting to him, and she was quite worried he was going to get himself caught like this. The last thing she wanted was for someone to notice him in this state. She hated to think he would lose his job for one mistake. He was only trying to escape his inner demons, and he just happened to live in the place that he worked. Part of her felt that to be unfair. Were they supposed to be perfect and on call all the time? She would imagine that would be exhausting.
She reached to catch the bottle before it fell, and she knew someone was going to have to clean that up. “I won’t tell anyone, but you really should get to your room. I promise I’ll go to mine without a problem. I don’t want to get you in trouble.” She would go to her room… after she really cleaned up the area so no one except maybe the security team would know he ever was there.
"You're such a sweet woman, y'know that?" He slurred and pointed at her before he took a step back. "I mean really sweet, I hope you'll get out of here soon, you're not that insane." He smiled happily and walked to the door, stopping there for a second. "Did I say that you're sweet? I can't remember. But you're sweet, really. If I was straight, I'd treat you like a flower." He hummed before almost knocking over a vase while navigating back to his room, cursing on the way when he almost got ran over by a wall.
Some Nights || Salvador & Simone
Staring out the window in her room, Simone let out a soft sigh. It was her third night at Thornewood and as usual, she couldn’t sleep. Well, more like she wouldn’t let herself sleep. Her doctors there had prescribed her sleeping pills, but they weren’t strong enough. Not to quell her nightmares though. Turning from the window, she decided to go explore instead of just standing in her room.
She had just stepped out into the hall when she heard a blast of noise. She jumped, startled by the sudden noise. However as quickly as it started, it stopped. Curious, she made her way down the hall in the direction the noise had come from. Reaching the Rec Room, she tentatively stepped into the doorway, pausing when she noticed the man on the couch. She wasn’t sure what she had been expecting, but this wasn’t it. Biting down on her lower lip she hesitated in the doorway.
Sal felt like someone was looking at him after he had sat there for a couple of minutes. He frowned and looked towards the door, noticing the young woman there. He almost jumped;Just almost, but he kept his heart under control and he took a deep breath. "Hey there!" He greeted her by lifting up the bottle and patting the seat next to him. "Don't be afraid, I'm not gonna hurt you or anything." He smiled and put the bottle down calmly.
"I'm Sal, I work as a guard here. What's your name?" He asked politely, sitting up straight and straightening his shirt. "No need to answer, just curious." He added and lift his hand in a defensive manner.
Sebastian smiled as he looked down to the man’s hand on his stomach then back up into the man’s eyes as he pulled away. The teen chuckled lightly as he asked him not to tell of his professional slip up. Sebastian nodded and took the other man’s wrist lightly in his own hand and held it to his abs, “It’s fine you can touch. You may even play.” The boy said with a chuckle, giving the man a playful smile, “Do I remind you of someone?” The man murmured to the other, biting his lip subjectively as he looked at the man.
Having a break
"Or maybe I just came here because I wanted to work out", she rolled her eyes, stepping in and pulled her shirt off, looking around at the machines, as though deciding which one to start with.
"Well, I could’ve sworn you started emphasizing your number of reps when you realized there was someone else there", she teased, smirking.
Sal chuckled and ran a hand through his hair. "If I was to impress you, I wouldn't have done simple crunches. Besides, I'm more into impressing men than women, so there."
"So, who're you? Patient or staff, or one of those who tend to lie and be both?"
"Oh?" Sebastian questioned with his smirk still ever so present on his lips. The teen walked to the radio and bent over, showing off his ass, and turning down the music of which went to the song Hit Me Like A Man. The song had a drag to it in which the man could sway his hips, presenting himself to the man, making him look very appetizing.
Sebastian then walked up to the man and frowned cutely, “Oh, I am so sorry. I didn’t mean to be a disturbance Sir. I was just dancing here, minding my own business.” The man replied looking into the other man’s eyes. “Is there anyway I could…make it up to you?” The teen offered as a smile graced his lips.
The latino could swear his heart was trying to hammer it's way through his chest, and the sound of his rapid hear beats were probably heard back in Texas, that's how loud he heard it. His eyes lingered on the teens naked upper body, but forced himself to look up into the others eyes as soon as he got closer.
"What? Oh- N-No it's-.. It's alright, I'll just-- Advice you to keep your music down because the nurses are easily pissed and pissed nurses aren't nice for anyone and..." He rambled, stuttering with some of his words, a bright red flush coloring his cheeks and neck. His mind was yelling at him about how he was a professional and how he needed to focus, but it was so difficult. "You look so much like Jackson." Sal mumbled and reached his hand forward, tracing his finger along the younger guy's stomach before snapping back. "Shit, sorry, don't tell I did that." he panicked and looked at the other with wide-blown eyes.
Having a break
"What makes you think I’d need your help, show-off?”, Cicero’s lip curled as she eyed the man.
Well you were just standing there, so I guess you had something to say.
And how could I show off if no one was there to watch? Is it still considering showing off?
Sebastian was hanging out in the music room. Sebastian was found in the middle of the room dancing around a chair with a smirk plastered on his face as he danced around the chair. The teen’s button-down shirt was open to expose his toned chest. The boy had a theory. The theory was that he planned on making straight men gay, if he could impress them enough, then he could impress anybody and that is what he was doing as he danced subjectively around the chair in the old dance room, listening to Heaven Knows on blast, hips swaying to the beat.
Sal was pacing the different floors with a huge pile with papers in his arms when he heard some loud music coming from one of the rooms. As a responsible guy, he had to find out what was going on, if someone had died and cranked up the volume while collapsing, who knew? He put the papers down on a the reception desk and went to investigate, only finding a rather attractive guy dancing around a chair. The latino froze on spot, his head going completely blank for a second before his thoughts found their way back to his brain. He hadn't really been looking at other men for, what, six years now? Not after leaving the academy.
"Hey!" He yelled over the music and gestured the other to turn it down a little, just for the sake of the other patients and the sour-looking nurses outside the room. "What are you doing?" He asked after a moment even if it was obvious that he was dancing. But damn son, those abs were so.. Touchable. No, what was he thinking, he was on duty, he wasn't supposed to let those thoughts through.
Some Nights || Salvador & Esmeralda
Esmeralda could tell the signs when someone had had a little bit too much. He was blinking and trying his best to keep up with her. However, she knew discussing this with him wasn’t the best idea. Coping with the underlying problems of his drinking alcohol was more important than discussing how far he was into the bottle, and honestly she knew he wasn’t far enough into it that he’d be disrespectful or he’d forget what she was saying to her.
Part of her was offended by the fact that he didn’t think that he should bother her with his problems. She thought that they were equal sharing friends. However, she knew exactly why he didn’t want to. It was really unprofessional, and it was probably frightening to think you might be crossing lines in between protector and protected. She wanted to comfort him in hopes that he would take her offer, because she honestly cared about. She hated to think he wouldn’t come to her just because she’s a patient. “It isn’t always so black and white. You don’t always have to think of me as a patient. I am a human being that understands you greatly. You’re here to protect my physical being which I promise you probably won’t really have to worry about any time soon. It doesn’t mean that you can’t make friends with me.” She pointed out. She wasn’t going to remind him that the rules didn’t say specifically that he couldn’t be her friend. That was just really annoying rather than helpful.
“I don’t drown my sorrows in wine, but I did drown my sorrows in books.” She sighed and looked off a minute. “I know what it’s like to want to escape. I guess we both need to figure out how to cope responsibly.” She laughed softly and looked toward him with a small smile.
"Most of the time it's black and white." Sal beamed, only catching her saying that. He felt himself starting to going towards the 'oh-wow-a-pony-and-now-i-pass-out' stage of his drunkenness. He kept looking her albeit his mind was starting to waver and his head almost lolling to the side. "You cannever be too sure, there could be 'nother attack tomorrow or in a week, and I have to be prepar-" He paused and made a face before he hicced. "Prepared.. You know protecting someone is like practicing safe sex, if you don't prepare, shit's gonna happun." He said with a serious face before slowly getting up, wobbling from side to side before shoving his hair off his face.
"Alleast you have books instead of... that." He pointed at the bottle of wine and accidentally knocked it over, the small amount left of it spilling over the table and the carpet. "Fuck." He cursed under his breath and took a side-step to avoid the wine getting on his clothes. After avoiding the wine he turned to Esme with a silly smile. "N'really, I appreciate it, jussdon't tell this to the warden, she'll fire me and without my job, i probably end up as a patient here instead of staff." He laughed even if it was true; He was hopelessly workaholic and it was something he couldn't comprehend himself. He shook his head to clear his mind again before lifting a hand as to tell her to wait for a minute while he tried to gather himself. "I thinkk..." He slurred and let his hand drop to his side. "I think I need to go to sleep, I have to be up in four hours." He mumbled and looked at this wristwatch even if his vision was blurry. "D'you want me to escort you to your room or you want the key to the library or sm'thing?"
Having a break
Is there a reason you think I need your help?
Perhaps you do? I'm no mind reader, but you were just standing there so I thought you'd have something to say. But if you don't, I'll just get back to work.
So this is it, huh?
Really? So you are like a total workaholic type of person?
Oh wow.. I didn’t expect an asylum to have all of this nice stuff. I don’t really exercise that much.. I usually uh.. just end up throwing up. I would like to play sports, but I feel too weak.
Completely, 100% and I admit it. I love working more than I love my family, and it's awkward at family reunions.
There's a lot of fancy stuff here; Rec rooms, music room, art room, the gym and the pool of course, the gardens... The rec rooms have video games, movies and other entertainment like that. Then there's the library, but I don't read that much, so I haven't checked it out. You know, I could help you start working out if you like. You just have to find your pace and not let other determine how much you should be able to push at once, that's how I started too. Good music helps as well, I've even heard that if you have someone to keep you company, you'll like it more.
So this is it, huh?
I honestly think all of those books suck.
Wait.. So you have something wrong with you too and you work here? There’s a pool and a gym here..? Really?
Yeah, I have some minor things wrong with me, but I've kept them hidden pretty well because I would go insane without my job.
Yeah, there's a indoor pool just around the corner and the gym is right next to it. And nothing small either, there is everything you could expect from a high-class gym, and the pool is not too cold either. Personally, I prefer something colder, but I can't complain. Are you much of an exerciser?
So this is it, huh?
I’m not one to judge.. but wow.. I can’t believe people think that’s real.
Well.. I don’t know about all of them, but I wanna get better.. I don’t want the voices in my head. Yeah.. I think that’s what they call it. Really? I can just come and talk to you whenever I need to?
Me neither, but I'm not one to judge young adults nowadays.
I understand completely, I wouldn't like to hear voices either, the constant nightmares and insomnia are enough. And yeah, sure, I work full time even on the breaks, so you can find me either in my office or at the pool or gym. I'm a good listener, but a bad talker, really.
Some Nights || Salvador & Esmeralda
Esmeralda never thought the way the government took care of their soldiers mentally was right. There was no way they would come out of war completely fine, and they just seem to think these men are perfect at coping with the horrible things that they were forced to see. She couldn’t understand how they didn’t make them go through more psyche evaluations than they did. The government needed to take more effort to assure that their soldiers are actually being taken care of. It was mind-boggling to Esmeralda that they didn’t already do so. As she listened to Sal, her beliefs were enforced, but that wasn’t was on her forethoughts. She could only think about how horrible that must feel- to have to face horrible things for two weeks straight… no breaks ever. She couldn’t bear the thought of believing she was at fault for the death of someone that meant so much to her. She couldn’t imagine having to be reminded of one simple mistake that ended in so much tragedy. Most of the time when she had flashbacks it was because someone else did something to her that she couldn’t control. She never had to deal with that regret.
However, Esmeralda empathized with him on so many levels. She could empathize with losing someone close to you and never knowing if there was something you could have done to prevent it. The suicide of her past crush haunted her sometimes, and it tore at her begging her to think of a way she could have saved Violet. She could empathize with the haunting memories of being harmed. She could empathize with not knowing where to start or go once you find the starting place to repairing a broken system.
Then the human emotions really hit her. The logic always came first, but when the emotions came they were intense. Esmeralda had to make his pain go away. She had to help him. She couldn’t ever leave him this way. The pain that hit her felt like an elephant running into her chest, because she knew what it was like to feel the way she did. And to think someone she cared about was suffering in anyway like her was horrible.
She reached for the bottle pushing it away a little. Of course, it was still in reach, but it got her point across. Her blue-grey eyes found his, and her hand touched his forearm softly. “Sal… that’s so horrible to have to cope with.” Her eyes flowed with empathy. It wasn’t pity that was worthless. It was something that let him know, ‘I know, and I care more than I can express.’ “But… that…” She nudged her head at the bottle won’t help. “I… I don’t know what might help, because I am a patient. However, I know that talking about it always helped me. It makes me feel like someone really cares. It makes me see different perspectives. And…” She looked him straight in the eyes. “I’m here. I’m always here. I want to hear from you all the time. Day, night, whenever. When you call, I’ll come. Please… I promise I’m willing to do anything to help… help a friend.”
Sal listened to the woman, his mind starting to get affected by the damned alcohol. From times to times he blinked repeatedly and focused on her again. Her concern was something he hadn't expected, since even his teammates didn't know about how he felt, about everything. "I-..." He started "I'm flattered, Ms. Whitlock, I really am, but I can't bother the patients with my problems. I'm here to keep you safe, and the last year has gone fine, nightmares or not." He smiled as sweetly as he could, even if he was drunk.
It really hurt him to see someone care about him, and he had no clue why it felt so bad but good at the same time. But work always came first, and he was here to protect these people. Close bonds were bad if the shooting would repeat itself, since he would probably do hasty decisions to save them before the others. Sal groaned and leaned forward, propping his elbows on his knees while holding his head. He always thought too much when he was drinking. "That's not really how it works, is it? I'm here to help you, not the other way around." He attempted to lighten the mood, but he had always been bad with socializing.
"I'll get through this, Eric isn't coming back even if I mope around like a little lost puppy. He's in a better place now, at least, and he won't have to cover up for me anymore. You'll get better too, you're a strong, intelligent woman, who doesn't drown her sorrows and loneliness with expensive wine." He nodded towards the bottle on the table. "I only get emotional when I drink, I won't be off guard while at work, don't worry." He assured her, sitting up straight, his eyes trying to focus on the far wall. "But thanks, you're the first one who ever said that they'd be there for me. I appreciate that, more than I can show."
