Samâs power to make Quinn blush at the slightest compliment was something that hadnât faded over time. She smiled as he assured that she wasnât quite past her prime yet. A quiet smugness seeped through Quinn, because although it was difficult to imagine sweet Sam asking anyone to leave, he had done so on account of her feelings. That seemed to outweigh the guilt in changing his plans, especially since Sam didnât at all seem regretful of it. A slow smirk took over freshly moistened lips at his insistence. Quinn had not prepared herself for a run-in with Sam, especially not just the two of them cozy in the brick stone all weekend. The thought made her heart give a light flutter, even if she knew that nothing more than platonic would happen between them. Even if her feelings for Sam had never entirely shut off, she didnât want to risk losing him completely. He had closed that door her senior year when he suggested she âhold on to sixteen.â Wisdom that to this day she had respected.
Quinnâs apologies were continually brushed off; though she was genuinely sincere, there was that tiny part of her that was relieved Sam had chosen friendship over some hook-up. After taking a sip of her tea, Quinn set it aside just in time to be enveloped by him. She probably shouldnât have sunk into his arms as enthusiastically as she did, but it had been a while since anyone had hugged her in such a way, and it was easy to get caught up in him. âOkay, okay. Iâll stop. Just donât go blaming me later for messing up your game.â She too chuckled along with Sam, his laugh tickling the shell of her ear as her fingers crept up his back and into his hair. Quinnâs head dropped to his shoulder for a moment; her voice softening as she spoke. âItâs really good to see you too, Sam.â As his strong arms fell away, Quinn reluctantly drew back, though his electric eyes dazed her for a moment. She had trouble believing she made things better, but they had had some great times together. Cracking another smile, Quinn tousled his blonde locks playfully before pushing off his chest with her hand in attempt to break the tension. It was playful, yet subtly flirtyâ though not enough to make things awkward.
âI did,â she answered excitedly, hazel eyes lighting up. âI feel like it went really well. Itâs just a Cover Girl commercial, but thatâs something, right?â Quinn giggled softly, catching the growl of his stomach. Her own echoed more silently. âI still canât believe you sent her away,â Quinn mused, obviously humored by the whole situation. âAt least not empty handed.â Though she could have forced herself to go to bed without a proper meal, a BLT did sound amazing. He was well aware of her inability to say no to bacon. âDo not tease me with bacon unless you know for a fact that you have it.â Her tone was teasing as she brought her cup of tea to her lips for another taste. âI canât think of a better combination, honestly. So, besides picking up random girls, what else have you been up to, hmm?â
Though the night had seemed like maybe it was going one way at first, the surprise of Quinn Fabray staying for the weekend had made it take a wild right turn for Sam. Now this was what he called upgrading. After bidding a hasty goodbye to the girl heâd met at the bar, Sam joined Quinn in the kitchen as she fixed tea for the both of them and quickly brushed off any thoughts she had that sheâd ruined his night or anything. As he stood there in the kitchen, fully embracing his fellow blonde, he laughed again at her protest. âItâs a deal, my game will be fine, I promise.â He could have stayed like this all night, honestly. It wasnât often that they got to catch up in person, and after the last few times it had happened at least this was under way better circumstances. Her fingers lightly toying with his hair for a moment caused Samâs eyes to squeeze shut as he enjoyed it, just a few moments later they broke from the hug yet lingered a little closely too as he again expressed how glad he was to see her.
Her hands pushing off of his chest caused a quick flutter within the walls of said chest, just for a moment again. Sometimes Quinn could do or say something and he was right back there at McKinley sophomore year again, totally captivated by the Cheerio Captain. Having that much power over him was definitely something Sam didnât think she even realized she possessed. Wanting to know how her audition went, he was pleased to see her reaction as brilliant hazel shone back at him. He broke into a wide grin and nodded enthusiastically. âThatâs amazing then, and hell yeah itâs something! Itâs a first step towards even bigger somethings.â Sam chuckled again. âCover Girl. It definitely suits you, Quinn.â His attention turned towards finding something to eat now, as if it ever wasnât partially on that, he kept on grinning with his face hid in the fridge when she mused over how heâd sent the other girl away. âIt wasnât even a tough choice. And weâre in luck, tons of bacon and everything else we need here.â He began to grab for the ingredients, piling them into his arms and then turned around. âBut I can still tease you anyways, if youâd like.â
Spreading things out on the counter, Sam began to get to work on their sandwiches. âHey now, to be fair it was just one random girl. Iâm much more comfortable with girls Iâve known for a while.â Carefully doctoring up a couple of BLTs for them, he made sure to add a little extra bacon to Quinnâs knowing full well how much she enjoyed it as well as how rare she probably still treated herself to it. âAnd really, not that much. Iâve been doing the modelling thing and gotten a little bit of work out of it, but itâs mostly been working at the bar and just doing odd jobs and stuff.â Trying not to sound like he was bitter because he really wasnât, âItâs been awesome to see how everybody else has been doing here in college and the real world, I just feel like maybe Iâve been falling behind a little, though. But thatâs okay. Thereâs lots of time still.â Finishing up with the food for them, Sam picked up one of the sandwiches and lifted it up to offer Quinn a first bite. âNow here. Tell me this isnât the best thing youâve ever put in your mouth.â
