Star Crossed Introduction

Solanine wakes up on the Nautiloid with nothing but a lute and a killer headache. Not even her memories were there to aid her in how she's gotten into this mess. The only thing the Tiefling knows is she has a hunger for cruelty, and as the woman gains allies to cure her, it only gnaws at her more. Did the Tadpole cause this, or is there a history that escapes her? And who could know, if not her?

This story will be cut into two separate times, the past and the present. Of Solanine's rise to power, the ultimate fall, to the path of rediscovery. But, perhaps these moments aren't quite as separate as they seem.

Obviously, This contains so many BG3 spoilers, of the main story and of the Dark Urge playthrough. So... be warned.

Trigger Warnings: Uh, this is Dark Urge- so for the people who don't already know what that means, there will be violence, gore, murder, death, homicidal ideation, violent compulsions, ritual sacrifice, religious fanaticism, and kind of just overall NSFW content (for violence and sexual content). Durge is death and chaos incarnate, and I will not be pulling back punches for this series.

Because I am bouncing back and forth regarding timelines, I will place the year at the beginning of every chapter. However, here are some loose dates to help you understand when exactly everything takes place.

Fynn- Shadows

Darkness. Many find it frightening; the home of horrors and the strange creatures that only come at night. There's even a legitimate fear of it- Nyctophobia. With smoke-like darkness pouring from his hand, Fynn understands the fear.

He didn't ask for this ability. He knows that no one does ask for theirs, but all he can see are those with normal day-to-day powers. And instead, he's stuck with the ability to create and manipulate the darkness. He is the monster that scares children, the scary creature that haunts people at night.

Of course, Fynn's ability is stronger at night, and he is relatively weak in the daytime, other than the shadows from buildings in the alleyways. He sighs and stops creating more shadows, having already pooled a small amount on the floor. Using his hand, Fynn begins to direct the shadows into shapes, the inky pool following his subtle gestures.

It is fun to control the shadows in the dim light of the hotel he stays in. Rhys, his coworker, would be here any minute to insult him and have them pack and move to another city. They can never stay too long in one space unless they want to be caught.

Vigilante. The word feels so foreign in his mouth, yet it is what he is. Fynn never dreamed of this lifestyle; he wanted to go to college, earn a degree in botany, and live peacefully with a wife and even kids. But he had to have met his counterpart- Rhys. While Fynn never remembers what her ability is called, he understands that she can control light. Concentrated enough, it's almost like fire. The complete opposite of himself. And, therefore, the perfect partner.

She told him what she knew, and he, in turn, accepted her offer to join him. While it's not the dream he once had, Fynn knows what he's doing is helping so many more people than his normal life would have.

Maybe one day he can finish his work and go to college. After all, there is no age restriction to get accepted. Though, what would he say he's been doing? While the two have money to support their lifestyle, he, legally, has been unemployed. That's a problem, isn't it? You have to have money to get into college. Why did he just now realize this?

Fynn shakes his head. The man can be very oblivious and gullible at times, something that Rhys makes sure to use for either benefit or amusement. She once convinced him that the Loch Ness Monster existed in all bodies of water and then shoved him into a river. Not a good day.

Did he think he was going to die? Yes.

Did he cry? Yes, but the water covered his face so he could say no.

When he resurfaced, all he could hear was her laughing. And suddenly, it was worth the terror. Rhys rarely ever smiles, something to do with her past, something that she keeps under wraps.

There's no sad backstory for Fynn, his parents are happily living in a city far from here. Of course, they do know that he's off to protect people, although he made sure to avoid using the word "vigilante".

They know Rhys, and while they want the two of them to get together, Rhys can feel at him with his family. She's almost like a rude, pessimistic sister. She's never brought him to her family. And Fynn has a vague idea as to why.

He hasn't lost anyone or had a reason to have this lifestyle, but he wants to be reliable. Wants to prove that his ability isn't scary, it's helpful. It can save lives, not take them.

And with the harsh knocking on the door, he knows it's time to leave. Fynn disperses the shadows from the floor and grabs his duffle bag. Placing on his face mask, he opens the door to meet the redhead at the door.

Yeah, he can prove his power is used for good. No matter how long it takes.

Venali - The Coins of Change

Strumming the last chord of the song, Venali looks up at the small crowd surrounding her in the slums of Abyada. Not much money gets given to her for the performance, but she appreciates every coin given. After today’s performance, she’ll have enough to buy a meal that night, a luxury most can’t achieve in this part of town. 

The people begin to disperse, and suspicious eyes catch Venali’s as she is giving her gratitude to her donors. She tenses slightly, feeling the persistent cold stare of the Finisher. Surely they wouldn’t take her money; she hasn’t done anything illegal for her income. But they would spin any situation to satiate their destructive desires.  

Venali collects her things as quickly as she can, all the while trying to appear calm. Getting worked up made their job easier, she reminds herself. All she needs to do is leave; no extra steps were necessary. 

But at the slightest movement on her part had the Ringman coming towards her with a bitter expression. As the man charges in between the flow of the crowd, Venali manages to pack up what little possessions she has. She walks away swiftly, but the Finisher gains on her quickly, reaching out to catch her. Venali tenses for the beating she is likely to receive for fleeing. Her senses heightened, Venali can feel the Ringman’s hand brush her hair, and she readies for the tug-

“Pardon me sir.” someone speaks as they step between Venali and her pursuer, and is softly pushed out of the man’s grasp. “I want to report a crime not too far from here. Seems we have a rigged game one street over. He’s been taking in money left and right.”

Holli - Mud and Promises

TRIGGER WARNING: This story contains bullying between children, fighting between children, and mentions of violence/gore.

Holli sat in the mud, fists curled in rage. Unlike most children her age, she preferred to plot her revenge cautiously rather than lash out. The humiliation of being laughed at was feeding into her anger. She wanted nothing more than to deal out blows, unable to quell the seething hatred that the young girl had yet to learn the words for.

Still, she sat.

The Finisher boys had pushed her down. It was not their first offense against her; there were often days when they would call her names or exclude her from their games. This time, however, they soiled her dress. Holli’s mother would be cross, dealing out a punishment that she knew would be unpleasant. This inspired her to make sure that whatever swift revenge she plotted would be just as bad, if not worse, than what she would face at home.

“Did ya see the look on her face?” One of the boys, a plump redhead with more freckles than hair, doubled over and pointed a chubby finger in her direction. One of the ginger’s greasy friends slumped over him as his laughter took hold of his body and made standing difficult. This one was slim, taller, and his long thin hair was worn in a bowl-cut that shook about his head like tassels as he erupted into another fit of giggles. “She screamed like a girl!” The blonde one, who Holli recognized as Guvon, guffawed. “I am a girl, idiot!” Holli felt herself retort despite the fact she should be plotting.
