A year in the life

I'll be 22 in about a week. It's funny how we put a numerical value on our lives, that we need to measure it in some way to make sense of anything. 21 was weird. It was good and bad. I experienced a lot of change, and maybe that's just how life is, but coming to its end, I can feel all of the personal growth that has taken place and the way my perspective has shifted, so I can feel nothing but at peace. I feel happy. Supported. Positive. Interested. I understand what I want out of myself and the people in my life, and I know what I'm passionate about. I'm busy doing a hundred things, but I dont really care because I love everything I'm spending my time on. I don't think I have a single complaint in the world right now. Life feels really, really good lately.

This has been a pretty bumpy summer. I've been let-down a few times, but I need to be done being sorry for myself off the get-go, done feeling inadequate when things don't work in my favor. I think in this season, God is teaching me to let go, to be grateful for the amazing life I've been given, and rely on Him through prayer.

We can easily lose our centers, wandering off in our pain and confusion, conjuring up hundreds of scenarios in our minds about why it’s all going to fall apart. But then this person is there for you, present in your life, reminding you of what matters. They’re just a human being, and yet their consistent love and presence have the ability to both ground you and take you beyond yourself. This is why so many love songs refer to the sun and moon and stars. The love of another human being has the profound capacity to connect us with realities as wide as the universe. Something about their love teaches us about all love. Through them, our view of everything is shaped. Returning to the same person again and again has a way of forming our deepest beliefs about the kind of world we’re living in.
