The photo of the egyptian pyramids have been edited after it was taken. The edited is of the pyramids being closer together on the National Geographic cover. The manipulation is not meant to be noticed. The purpose of this photo I believe is for the aesthetic. The photo in the cover was meant to appease the horizonal shape to make the image look better.

This photos content outside the frame would change the meaning of it. This is because of how it seems like this is Oprahs body, however, her head was apperiently photoshopped onto another womans body. This manipulation was of course not meant to be noticed. The purpose of this photo is deceptive,

This photo can be misinterperated as representing something else. The photo is about a doctor, working with African labourers in Gabon. However, at first glance, I thought of something completely different. To say it in a vague way, the doctor looks like a slave owner. Maybe, the manipulaion was meant to be seen, because it is easily noticed at first glance. The purpose of this photo may be creative. This is because it allows the viewer to conciously think of a whole new topic, when the photo is about something else. The photos also deceptive as well.

The photo has been edited after it was taken. This is because the smoke was apparently darkened to make the situation look worse than it was. This is maniplulated photo. The manipluation was not meant to be noticed. The purpose of the edited photo is deceptive. As it makes the viewer think something is true, when its not.

This photo is manipulated by Bush’s Administration to make their war progression more positive. With Bush’s thumbs up and “mission accomplished sign” this is pretty obvious. I believe that the manipulation was not meant to be noticed. I would describe the purpose of this photo is deceptive.

Photograph is more subjective because:

-> Photo is taken from my perspective/point of view/position

-> Photo goes with the way I want it to present

-> Adjusted to specific brightness to increase value and enhance color of sunset

-> I wanted to use the line of horizon to express balance between ground and sky

Do you believe that your images are objective representations of reality? You might be mistaken. Here are a few arguments why.

Can You Photograph Reality?

Subjectivity and Objectivity:

-> Objectivity: People wanting to see reality instead of opinions of an author/director/photographer

-> Subjectivity: Things that are created from personal influence such as taste, feelings, or opinions

-> Giving an audience a selection of perspectives would allow more interest

Subject and Perspective:

-> Selection of subjects is non-objective (subjective) 

-> Deciding what is visible in the foreground, background and lighting (subjective)

-> Decisions for this can be unconscious or subconscious

Perspective on a topic:

-> “ Images reflect the relation between you and your model “

-> Two pictures of similar things will not be the same

-> Photos taken from your perspective/point of view/position = Subjectivity

Development of a Photograph:

-> Choosing specific lighting, editing, camera lens, composition = Subjectivity

Presentation of Choice:

->  Writers argument: “Selection of your images and the way you will present them is a subjective decision”

-> Impossible to produce objective image because you will need to present all possible variations of a subject at once

-> Focus on snail (blurry around snail)

-> Color is unfiltered and untouched (I didnt edit)

Composition:

-> Lines seen on the branches and snail shells

-> Pattern on snail shell

-> Texture ~ Brittle, rusty, rough

-> Branches go with rule of thirds

Subject:

-> Snails are mainly focused

-> Evokes emotion towards snails

Story:

-> Open-ended (any one has own opinion of story)

-> Snails look lonely/scared

-> Being with someone close

-> Love

Integration:

-> Composition of photo (blur,focus) brings eye to subject (snails)

-> Subject allows snails to tell a story

What Makes a Good Photograph? Five Quick Things to Evaluate!

I know, it’s a loaded question. Heck, it’s a loaded word, that one — good. According to whom? By what measure? Who do you think you are to criticize my work? I know. And, I agree. But I suspect there are still a few checks we can make to see if an image is headed in the right direction. Let’s look at five of them!

1. Technique:

->  Allows photographer to transfer their vision and emotional intent into reality

-> Tweak photo’s color and luminosity to match photographers intent

-> Shutter speed, aperture, lighting of photo, etc

2. Composition:

-> Lines, edges, colors and tone of photo

-> Lines = leading eye to one part to another  -> Repeated forms = Soothing patterns   -> Contrast = drawing interest   -> Colors = evoke certain effect or emotion

3. Subject:

-> Focal of image   -> Evoke emotions, mostly apathy

4. Story:

-> Gets viewers mind consciously engaged with the photo   -> Keeps viewers asking questions   -> One of the powerful tools   -> Allows viewers to remember the photo (story) as long-term (if story is strong)

5. Integration:

-> Results in four of the techniques stated, somehow correlating and strengthening one another

-> Technical choices = strengthen composition

-> Composition = guides eye to subject

-> Subject(s) = works together to tell cohesive story

*,･ﾟ✧* A photo of a sharp and detailed building I took yesterday afternoon during golden hour. I love the rich yellow that the sunset is casting and the many different shadows being shown. The element of line is used multiple times in the windows and balconies of the building. This photo reminds me of Italy :)) *,･ﾟ✧*

~ Critical Analysis ~

Initial Reaction - My initial reaction to this was how alluring the clouds looked. Also, I love how the vibrant colors blend in such as the blue, hot red, and yellow. I brings to mind on my type of posts which I usually enjoy. Such as landscape, mostly the sky.

Analysis & Interpretation - The elements used in this photo would be color, as described before. Texture is also an element that is expressed for the clouds and the detailed branches of the trees near the road. Another element that is used would be value, expressed through the very dark trees and road. Which is contrasted to the sky. A principle that is used would be contrast, as sated before, the dark trees and road would be contrasted to the sky. I believe the piece is just about capturing a beautiful sunset.

Consideration of Cultural Impact - The artists life may have affected the work since they’ve stated that it is a perfect way to end the day and take a break. They might’ve thought that it looked calming. My experiences did affect my impression of it since I tend to adore photos of the sky and usually post them.. Which made me compliment the photo as to how effective it looks.

Expression of Aesthetic Judgement - My perception of my initial reaction has not changed. However, I do appreciate the work more since I payed attention to more detail. Connections I could make is my own work, since I usually post photos similar to this. Also, this piece is effective because It compliments most of the elements of art and It is very eye catching.
