Hi there, everyone! This is the second post in the Magolor's Fun Facts series, where I post interesting and obscure facts about Magolor!
This one is a little different from the last two, and is really more about the Master Crown than Magolor himself, but I hope you'll enjoy it anyway!
Here I aim to clear up a (likely) misunderstanding that I've seen floating around from time to time in the last couple of years.
While the majority of people already probably understand this, it is highly likely that the true name of the Master Crown in its Tree Crown without a Ruler form is Mistilteinn.
I point this out because some people instead believe that Mistilteinn is referring to the sword that Magolor wields at the end of the battle. This is because Mistilteinn is also the name of a sword in an old Norse legend.
However, when translated from Norse into English, Mistilteinn also means Mistletoe. And what is Mistletoe? A parasitic plant which grows on trees, especially apple trees. Which is EXACTLY what the Master Crown is in this battle! In fact, the Japanese version of the Master Crown's Special Page even outright says that it's become mistletoe to the red fruit!*
Also, the name of the attack the Master Crown uses involving many red lasers, according the official Japanese guidebook, is "憎悪ぞうおと執念しゅうねんのミストルティン", which translates to "Mistilteinn of Hatred and Obsession". The "Hatred and Obsessions" of prior rulers is what the crown is said to contain on Magolor Soul's special page in Extra Mode, and it wouldn't make sense for this attack name to refer to the sword that Magolor uses. If that wasn't enough, the attack itself and its name are also a direct reference to the attack Void Termina uses where it fires similar lasers from something that looks like a huge Master Crown. In the guidebook the attack is called "憎悪ぞうおと執念しゅうねんのミストルティン", which translates to "Crown of Evil and Obsession".
Oh, and obviously, the theme for the battle with the Master Crown is titled "Mistilteinn, Tree Crown without a Ruler". But I'm sure most of you already knew that.
It is very much possible, even likely if you ask me, that the name Mistilteinn was partially chosen to call Magolor's sword to mind as well, similar to how "Two Planets Apporach the Roche Limit" in Kirby and the Forgotten Land refers to the section of the battle AFTER the one it plays in, but Mistilteinn is almost definitely the name of the Master Crown as the Tree Crown without a Ruler rather than the sword itself.
