Kilo Kish, De La Soul, Vince Staples, Kano and Gorillaz @ Demon Dayz Festival, Margate, 10th June 2017

I tried to buy Demon Dayz tickets the moment they went online, but the booking website had a weird queue system and I messed up and then it sold out. I was gutted because I was hoping to sketch all the bands and make a little fanzine of the day mixed up with Fanart. But in the middle of this week I was super lucky and won a pair of tickets through Red Bull! :O

The weather was glorious and I managed to get a bunch of sketches to work from. I still wish I’d had longer there to explore. We missed out on IRL Kong Studios/Murdoc’s Winnebago, because the queue was too slow and it would mean missing out on live music!

I didn’t get to draw all the guests who came onstage for Gorillaz’ 2 hour set - even if one song is long enough for a quick portrait sketch, there were a couple of moments when the odd disruptive crowd member meant I had to stop drawing, or I was just having too much fun dancing with everyone else.

Giant Rhinos In Space Page 127

Thanks for reading again this week!

I recently deleted Giant Rhinos In Space from Tapastic because of changes with their T&C. I’ve noticed that the webcomic theme I use on tumblr is great on a PC web browser, but the page turn buttons are missing on the mobile app and mobile website. I would have to go through and manually add them to 100+pages (which I don’t have time to do) I’m really sorry for any inconvenience caused by deleting the comic from Tapastic.

Giant Rhinos In Space is also available to read via Smack Jeeves - the website may look dated but it does offer a book marking system and the page turn buttons and drop down achieve are still easy to access on a mobile browser.

It’s also worth noting that the complete series is now available to read in print - a much more comfortable reading experience than any webcomic host site. which leads me onto the next bit of important news …

The Spook School, Nachthexen, Surge and T-Bitch, @ Bent Fest, DIY Space for London, 27th May 2017

When I travel for conventions and zine fairs I like to try and find gigs to go to in the evenings. I was lucky to catch the evening at Bent Festival in London. Unfortunately I missed their zine fair - but the bands were great. Was great to finally get to see The Spook School live <3

Thank you to everyone at London MCM Comic Con - I had a surprisingly busy show compared to recent conventions. Special thanks to @sarahfogg for helping SO MUCH and remaining upbeat despite a horrible head cold!

My next convention will be Glasgow Comic Con on the 1st July! Hopefully I’ll see you there!

Giant Rhinos In Space #5 arrived from the printers today! The comic includes chapter 5 plus a gallery of illustrations in the back. I've made up bundles and everything is ready to launch at London MCM Comic Con this weekend! My table will be on row G of the Comic Village (there isn't a map just yet, but check my Twitter for directions nearer the day)

There’s 3 new pages today - I’m not going to reblog each individual post to my main tumblr. If you’re reading on the tumblr dashboard I’d advise going to the Archive to find your place in the story so you can turn the page.

Sorry I deleted all my comics from Tapastic because of changes in the T&C. I’m going to continue posting updates to Smack Jeeves, which has a better book mark system - but you will have to tolerate high levels of ‘2005 called, it wants it’s web designer back.’

GRIS#5 has been printed this week - and they should arrive in the post Monday ready for London MCM Comic Con next weekend! (Comic Village row G). I’ve got bundle packs prepped ready for when they arrive.

I had a really great time at DIY Cultures yesterday helping out on the Do What You Want table with Clio Isadora. We only had one box of DWYW zines and they all sold - so thank you very much to everyone who bought a copy! Preorders are open for a 2nd print run of the zine, and an ebook is available from the website.

I'm going to be at Afroflux Comic Con this Sunday at the Birmingham Hippodrome. The event is Free entry so please come say hi! I will have more table space this time, so I'll bring a bigger selection of comics and zines. I've got plenty of free mini comics to hand out!

Muncie Girls & Los Campesinos! @ The Hare & Hounds, Birmingham, 7th May 2017 (This is TMRW)

Los Campesinos! are a quite large band, but I’m not sure how or why I ended up drawing so many of them. I think I was unhappy with the likeness or something. It’s much harder to draw guitars if people stand facing away from the crowd (but probably good drawing practice to try) I’ve not seen LC! live before, and it was a really great atmosphere being down the front with fans singing their heats out to songs they grew up with.

I’m going to be at DIY Cultures helping out on the Do What You Want table this Sunday. Later in May I have full tables at Afroflux Comic Con (Birmingham) and London MCM Comic Con. (Comic Village table CG8) Please come say hi!

Giant Rhinos In Space Chapter 5 Cover and Relationship Map

Hey! Thank you for waiting so long for this chapter! I make this comic in my free time, so when other projects come up it gets pushed back. But I’ve been working hard on GRIS pages over April and now it’s ready to relaunch!

I’m going to be posting 3 new pages at 12noon (GMT) every Friday. This week you get a relationship map and a reminder to maybe go back and reread previous chapters so you’re ready for new updates. If you prefer reading in print, issues 1-4 are currently available through my Etsy shop www.etsy.com/shop/sammyborras for 4 for £10.

I have a buffer built up which means the print version of GRIS #5 is due for release in May or June. This is will be the last chapter of the story but I’m not planning to publish a compilation graphic novel - I’m going to just make up bag bundles. (I have so much stock left of individual issues.) Please don’t hold off buying in anticipation for a single book, thanks!

Otoboke Beaver and Say Sue Me at The 100 Club, 1st May 2016 Otoboke Beaver are an incredible live band touring the UK with Say Sue Me this week! More information currently pinned on their Facebook page! (the gig last night was sold out, but they’ve added an extra London gig on Friday)

PWR BTTM, Orchards and Repeat of Last Week  @ The Hare & Hounds, Birmingham, 13th April 2017 (This is TMRW)

PWR BTTM are incredible live! I’ll probably try drawing them again for the next print zine (I’ve got several ideas for risograph neon/metallic cover illustrations or prints), I was stood quite far back in the crowd for their set (got a bit overwhelming down the front) and couldn’t really see the paper to draw. I didn’t manage to capture their live energy or a likeness this time. (still had a great time tho)

I was down the front for Orchards and Repeat of Last Week (another FOMA band), which is why the drawing quality starts off better, sorry!

I’m so excited to make new music zines over the summer! Don’t forget I’m looking for submissions for a Desert Island Discs Fanzine. Please get involved! :D

My Awesome fellow inkling Sammy is taking requests for fan art for her book, so couldn’t miss on this opportunity to make her some art, her book is fantastic, if you get the chance to get hold of it I would do so, not only is her art amazing but her humour is top notch, also she is a machine and produces books left right and centre, (she is also a killer in Splatoon)

Thanks to everyone at The Midland Lo-Operatives Alternative Art Market at The Hare & Hounds yesterday. It was a quiet afternoon, but still lovely to watch live art progress and hang out with other Artists from the local area who wouldn’t normally at the same sorts of events. There were talks about growing the event and the next one falling some time in June so look out for that! Special thanks for Olly for inviting me along. It was great to meet Lewes Herriot who designs great posters for This Is TMRW - a lot of my gig sketches are from their events. You can find more beautiful fantasy/adventure illustrations on his website. My next booked event isn't until May - I'm hoping to book a couple more events in the summer so check the blog sidebar for an up to date list. Don't forget I have an Etsy shop which ships worldwide. Warpaint and Shame @ The Institute, Birmingham, 22nd March 2017

I usually keep tickets in the back of my gig sketchbook. I saw Warpaint last year at the Roundhouse in London and I nearly took the wrong ticket with me yesterday! D: Click here to see the gig sketches from October. I was a bit closer to the stage this time which was great for drawing. I love how chilled the crowd were, it was a lovely atmosphere.

Maybe Don’t, Mondo Royale & Peaness at The Sunflower Lounge, Birmingham, 13th March 2017 (Counteract)

Hey, sorry I skipped drawing Maybe Don’t - but you can see gig sketches from February here. I’ve been coughing nonstop for a week now which is so annoying, it feels like there are great bands playing in Birmingham every night in March! D:<

Spring convention season is kicking off this weekend! I’m going to be at Birmingham MCM Comic Con selling music themed comics & zines. You’ll be able to find my table in the Comic Village section of the event, I’ll be in Row C next to Laura Howell & Ryuuza (table CC2). I’ve got FREE MINI COMICS to hand out, so please come and say hi even if you’re on a tight shopping budget :)

Roosevelt and Glass Animals at The Institute, Birmingham, 10th March 2017

Glass Animals finally played their first headline gig in Birmingham last night. I’m not usually a fan of strobe lights, but the use of this glorious disco pineapple was pretty cool. The stage was framed by 2 giant shimmering cacti. There support act were a little bit difficult to draw, they were mostly back lit by a neon Roosevelt sign.
