Must... contain... the silly...
become ungovernable
“Twice the size of Ransei, at least.” What kind of partner would she be if she didn’t know that much? It had sounded to her like the perfect trip to bring Yukimura along for. A huge region full of natural beauty to explore. Plus, it would be nice to take a break from all the politics for a bit and take some time for herself instead.
“The mountain range alone takes up a solid quarter of the region. It’s very popular for travelers!” Ah, if only there was any means of accessing the internet in most of Ransei, she could find some pictures for him! “Personally, I’d like to sample some of their local cuisine. I hear it’s fantastic!”
“Mountains, eh?” He was a well-known sucker for a good cliff climb hike. “I suppose we would need to eat between all the sight seeing. What’s the language over there? My English is getting better, supposedly, but...you know how it is.”
To Yuki’s credit, he did apply himself to studying the language. It was just such a bastard of one he barely made any headway. It didn’t help much that he only knew of one person in Ransei who spoke it as his native language. Pardon him if he wasn’t going all the way to Dragnor for lessons.
“It’s not my fault Katsu has all the charisma of a wet paper towel.”
(A quiet “hey!” from the back of the stall, and Katsu pokes his head up from preparing rice balls long enough to stick his tongue out at Hiroko.)
“Fine, but you still have to pay for it. It’s all going towards the school! And maybe if you were nice you would buy an extra for me, since it’s almost time for a lunch break.”
It didn’t land.
Pick it back up.
“Guess I could be convinced to share the Dessert one with you. But, in return, I get a favor.” Look at him putting those negotiation tactics to work.
Hiroko’s Luvdisc fest outfits! Shiori has a similar outfit for working the stand but I’ll draw the retainers Later.
#yukimura please come here and scold ur girlfriend for being terrible at relaxing
@ranseiuniter fine i’ll switch up how this was going to go
What was he going to do with her?
"Pretty sure someone else was supposed to be running the stall,” he leaned against it, half an eye on the crowd. He tried not to when he joined her on the mainland. Tried. Old habits.
“Though,” don’t let it be said he doesn’t support her endeavors, “if you slide me a tempura red I might be willing to overlook it. Oh, and a dessert ponigiri as well.”
sanadaas:
“Mm, that would be nice.” He did what he could to keep himself distracted busy, and he by no means would think to get between her and her duties, but damn it he missed her when she left. Even when she was in Ransei they were in different kingdoms half the time.
“Lord Shingen should okay it. Keeps telling me I should take time off, anyway.” Practically pushing Yukimura out the door whenever one of the ninja who were supposed to be under Yuki’s command let slip how long he stayed awake. He reached out and fiddled with the ends of her hair. “Don’t suppose you’d be going any time soon?”
“Hmm… Well, I only just got back, but I think we can speed the process up a bit. If we left sooner, that’d be more time we’d have before I had to do any diplomatic nonsense, too.” There’s hardly much going on in Aurora anyway. Nothing that Mitsunari can’t handle, and barring that, certainly nothing Motonari just next door couldn’t.
“I think the plan is to go to Paldea next. West of here. Well, virtually everything is west of here, but - you know what I mean. It’s quite a large region, from what I understand. A lot to see.” Getting to explore together would be nice. Especially in lieu of being assigned a babysitter tour guide like she had in some other regions.
“Paldea, hm?” Yukimura tested the word. Granted, more reports of outside Ransei had been hitting Lord Shingen’s desk since the new capital was erected inside Terrera. It didn’t necessarily mean Yuki read them all. Or was particularly interested in any that weren’t about wherever Hiroko went to.
“How, uh, how big we talkin’?” It was no secret that Yukimura’s favorite part of his job was checking the borders. Long, huge borders that stretched for days and kept him preoccupied and on the move. Always with something new to turn up and some secret to unearth. And here she was dangling a whole new region in front of him.
@sanadaas | let! them! be! cute!
Maintaining a relationship could be a bit… challenging when Hiroko spent months at a time outside of Ransei. Still, she and Yukimura managed to make it work, spending about as much time together as circumstances would allow when she was back home.
“Yuki, I was thinking — what if you come with on my next visit to the mainland? Shingen should be able to handle things without you for a few months, I would think.”

magonumberfive:
“I’m not that old!”
“Can’t tell with all the wrinkles and the grey hairs.”
@magonumberfive
“Okay, boomer.”
ranseiuniter:
“Oh, in town. My father was a warrior.” …Well, it wasn’t a lie. She wasn’t sure how she felt about admitting she was the Warlord–sure, only an idiot would decide they were enemies with that in mind in a situation like this, but knowing the way some people in Ransei seemed to act… Better safe than sorry.
“…Have you been to Aurora? Everyone from other kingdoms I’ve met sort of just assume it’s all one giant rice paddy.” Most people didn’t really ask “where” in regards to Aurora, especially not those who had never visited. It was small enough that most assumed (fairly) that there wasn’t much beyond the town they called their capital.
“Not for a good many years,” Yuki shrugged. Somewhere between ten and twenty. If he knew his actual age he might be able to pin a proper time length. He’d certainly never been in the town. His childhood explorations kept him close to the border. “I mostly remember the rice paddies.” It’s offered as half apology, half joke.
“D’you, uh,” Yuki frowned. He’d been about to ask if she had an idea of where or how far along Ryou was. But, it made him realize a minor disparity. “Did you, uh, introduce yourself? I’m usually okay with names, but...” He gestured at the room around them.
ranseiuniter:
If not for the rickety chair, finding a balance this high up wouldn’t be too difficult, but–dear Arceus, would it kill them to invest in a chair that sat on all four legs properly? Nevertheless, Hiroko manages to work away at the grate; the screws aren’t exactly falling out, but they’re loose enough that she can twist them free with just her hands before pulling the grate down - carefully - to allow Ryou to hop in.
“Alright, he’s up there. Now we just have to wait.”
“Okay, hold on.” Yuki lowered himself slowly, keeping his back straight as he crouched down as best he could. “I’m gonna let go on the left.” He released his grip, wary of sudden shifts in her balance. He grabbed the back of the chair and moved his leg back to solid ground.
“Alright, there you go.” Yuki brushed the minute dusting that had fallen from the grate off the front of his clothes. He shook a hand through his hair to do the same. Now what? They were at an impasse until the Eevee returned. Yuki wasn’t exactly known for enjoying quiet. “So... Which part of Aurora are you from?”
ranseiuniter:
No kidding. If they had a ninja in tow this whole ordeal would be much easier. She sighs, leaning back herself and staring up at the ceiling. Evenly dotted tiles, over and over and over, except for in the corner where they were interrupted by–wait a second.
“Actually, that gives me an idea…” She stands up abruptly, lifting Ryou with her and moving closer to the vent to study it. Then puts Ryou down, retrieves the chair she’d been sitting in, drags it over, and steps onto it.
“…Ah, dammit, I can’t reach.” The woes of being too damn short. “Could you help me get the grate off and get Ryou up there?”
He catches onto what she’s doing as she moves the chair. He joins her side and eyeballs the distance. The two of them would be able to reach the grate on their own, but to get the Eevee---Ryou---in there will require the chair. “Step down?” Yuki offers his hand to get her back to the floor and crouches halfway with one foot on each surface.
“Hop on.” When they’re both settled he rises carefully. Even furniture here sucks, he’s soon to discover, as the chair tilts threateningly under the weight. Eventually he reaches full height, a steadying hand on each of the woman’s legs. Hopefully the faulty furniture meant the grate would be easy to move.
ranseiuniter:
“True…” Honestly? It was beginning to sound like the best option. The alternative was waiting here for more people who either wouldn’t listen or wouldn’t believe them if they did. “The only problem I’ve gathered is that we’re on an island, and not a very big one. I think if we book it, it’s only a matter of time before they find us again.” And she got the feeling that if they weren’t technically in trouble now, they sure would be if they broke out of here.
“I don’t know much about boats, and–not to jump to conclusions, but if you’re from Terrera…” There wasn’t exactly an abundance of waterways to travel on. “We should probably think through a plan first. At the very least, how to get out of here without raising any alarms.”
“Yeah,” Yuki rolled his head back. The most swimming he had ever done was in the streams of Aurora as a small child. Not exactly training for a marathon of ocean swimming. No idea how boating worked, either. Why couldn’t they have landed somewhere with a desert?
“Like I said, we’ll have time to figure somethin’ out if this shit keeps up. Worse comes to worst we can always play dumb.” Didn’t suppose she could link with birds? Ugh, the Pokémon here were so small though. Were they even able to carry one person’s body weight? “Where’s a damn ninja when you need one?” Yuki muttered. Sasuke and Kunoichi wouldn’t let this happen to him.
...At least they’d help him get out after laughing their asses off.
