Summary:Â Â Wei Ying, Wei Wuxian, is the eye of the storm. Wherever he goes, chaos will follow. He doesnât expect to to get caught in another storm in the form of a little child he first mistook as a small deity, though. Nor does he expect to /stay/. Not that he ever gets any choice to say otherwise. Not under those eyes which color reminds him of a day in summer, with sunlight filtered by the canopy of tree leaves.
Part 1 of Baby Lan and How He Change the World
My comments:  Aaahhh, what an epic journey this story has been. The first part of it covers Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng studying at Cloud Recesses, where wwx stumbles across a beautiful and very lonely 5-year-old kneeling in the snow. He is wwx, so of course, he annoys lwj into becoming best friends. [This world is a parallel universe to canon, with all the soulmate stuff only a ten year age difference. In Part 3, actually, little Lan Zhan dreams himself into canon⊠and enacts another fix-it there.] So much of the story goes differently because of cute widdle lwj: father lan leaves seclusion; the smoldering jealousy between jc and wwx never develops; madam yu falls in love with the kid (as everyone does) and heâs frequently a guest there, which softens all the bad relationships happening in Lotus Pier.
Sadly, the Wen are still the Wen, and we reach Sunshot when lwj is nine. Author is utterly shameless about making the characters powerful and beautiful and just⊠extra in every way, so lwj fights in the war and still earns his title of Hanguang Jun. During these years, Wen Rouhan (and consequently Wen Chao) become obsessed with him, leering and predatory, and near the end of Sunshot We Chao runs lwj down and attempts to rape him. The attempt is unsuccessful, but it develops something in lwj: a coiling resentful energy. (Authorâs premise is that resentful energy feeds on negative emotions, especially fear and depression.) Wwx also starts cultivating resentful energy, in order to go enact his vengeance on Wen Chao.
So for the next handful of years, lwj fights the resentful energy trying to take him over. This final arc of the story features jgyâs machinations, and the cultivation world ganging up on wwx because his dark and dirty tricks are tainting their pure young hero. By the end, heâs fully grown.
***Oh, you canât forget about the murder chickens. Lan Xichen has two spiritual junglefowl that he uses to send messages during the war, and the black one hates wwx and pecks at him all the time (hence, murder chicken). The chickens make frequent appearances and I love them.
