Plot-wise it may make less than no sense with the GI but ugh are the dialogue and emotions so juicy. He's starting to place himself in relation to the jedi ORDER. Not just living up to the idea of his "dead" father but the people that Ben and Yoda and Anakin once belonged to and their values!! He is beginning to understand what it means to be a jedi!!!!

Going back and reading the Phase I Adventures comics just cause and I'm kind of haunted by Kantam Sy's facial hair situation. Like why did they do this to him. This was NOT mentioned in Midnight Horizon from what I can remember

Also like Yoda just being here the whole time is kind of killing me. Just because he's so MIA kind of "oh, who knows what he's up to" vibes in the novels yet in this comic he's just chilling with the Starlight padawans and getting right up in the action. What's that about buddy

What was with the Hutts speaking basic???? With Rotta its fine bc its always come off as a status thing but with the Twins it makes no sense at any moment whatsoever. They speak Huttese to enforce superiority and make those with an audience cater to them and their ways, they wouldn't choose to speak English like that idt I'm sorry.

Also the Rotta "because I'm Jabba's son" thing was kind of a misstatement to me on his part lol bc buddy I think it's because you're a hutt in general my friend. If Ziro was your dad I think you'd have a similar issue of being unliked gotta say

Also random aside but SWGOH adding R5 for this?? He's in the background for like .4 seconds my dude and we don't even know if he's the same one (bc isn't it implied that he's with Peli?) strange choice

Also Ward giving out assignments to hunt down warlords using the USA 2003 Iraqi Most Wanted card deck was something that happened lol

Some vague spoilers and all that under the cut

I think this movie fundamentally had a major stakes problem, as plot-wise it didn't have any argument for why it was important honestly? And when that happens you have to compensate with characters and making a smaller, character-fueled conflict. Which i don't think they did as they both 1. Assumed people knew and already cared abt Mando and Grogu while also 2. Not developing Mando & Grogu character-wise? Like I think this really if we wanted could have become Grogu's movie even more and explored some of his conflicts in a way that could setup a future Grogu and/or Rotta appearance in a whole new era years post-sequels, as they are long-lived species that could show up in things like that as connectors to past Star Wars.

I also think that Grogu's maturity was good but him still not talking is getting strange development-wise. The physically a baby thing is kind of hm... but maybe that's just how yoda species puberty works, but i think I'm very interested in the idea of Grogu having developmental delays in speech especially because of his Order 66 trauma and years of isolation before Mando s1--something Mando doesn't even realize because of his lack of knowledge

I also think there's possibly something more to be said about the conflict of Jedi/Mandalorian with Grogu in this movie. He's described as Mando's "apprentice" in the title card, but does use the force a lot in the movie, while also making major decisions that go against Jedi teachings. He takes later actions motivated by fear of the Hutts. He lets his attachment to Mando effect his actions a lot! Now, these things work out and he's still young but we don't get an image of Grogu listening to the Force before deciding to help Mando, he goes because his friend is is trouble, which we know from Empire is a line of reasoning that can lead to disaster! Idk. Maybe some flashbacks of Jedi temple moments and moments with Mando during the Grogu alone section could have been smth

I'll continue expressing various notes and gripes over the next few days but that's what I have for now. Will say the thing I enjoyed most about this movie was the character of Grogu and his actions, movements, choices, etc. Go baby go.

Luke / GI fight that I have pinned conflicts me sm because the dialogue is genuinely a top Luke Skywalker moment for me I love him so much in relation to the Jedi order and discovering that legacy but also rebuilding and doing things different (etc.) but also the existence of GI there as a ghost and that whole setup is also so deeply stupid that makes it difficult to reconcile at times. Esp when I get hyped up and forget to mention that ik it's a plot mess and the dialogue is what hits there. At least the colorist is going crazyyyy cool to look at

Okay finished the JJM KOTOR comic (not a direct game tie-in, just set in the period though we do get some Carth & Malak) and the final take is that I really liked the first arc with the murder and the rogue moon prophecy (and specifically how it grew and foreshadowed Malak) and thought it keeps strength overall up through the defeat of Lucien Draay. After that think the comic was weaker with the Jarael stuff up through the end. They also left the Demagol thing hanging way too long (to the point that reveal was the main thing I was reading for towards the end, only to then tie it up with the whole Jarael Crucible stuff I already wasn't that into :/ but overall despite the lackluster ending and going on too long I think the first bit is strong and I really enjoyed it (incl Malak aka Squint and the Carth Serroco things which I've both talked abt on this blog!) in addition to the "Jedi padawan who's trying but is just not very good at the force/being a jedi" concept being so good makes at least the first few volumes a reccommend for Old Republic fans looking to expand the universe
