Been super fascinated by etymology and lexicography recently. Did some AI facilitated researched (verified by me personally of course) and found out the first time the phrase "zar, zoru, aur zameen" was used in an English text was in 1873 when Anglican missionary T.P. Hughes wrote this about the Afghans:

“The causes of murder are proverbially said to be three-fold, — zan, zar, zamin; women, gold, and land.”

I've often thought about the internalized misogyny in this phrase, because let's face it in a matriarchal society, I don't think women will fight over women, much less men. Anyway, that's a deeper debate, my fascination with the phrase stems from my own reflection that zar, zoru aur zameen constitute 90% of the subject matter of most of my own music, and the songs I really love.
