yall: i support people with ADHD!! yall when an ADHD character shows any symptoms beyond uwu hyperactive: lol this character is so annoying. they should die
hey reblog this actually
don’t say you support people with ADHD if you can’t be assed to repeat yourself when they don’t hear you
don’t say you support people with ADHD if you’re going to mock them later on for being annoying
don’t say you support people with ADHD if you assume everyone with it is childish or unintelligent
don’t say you support people with ADHD if you mock them for stimming, having a hyperfixation or being forgetful
don’t say you support people with ADHD if you mock or ridicule people for the things it entails.
If I may add:
don’t say you support people with ADHD if your support begins and ends with teenagers.
Adults have ADHD too (and afab adults are often undiagnosed and untreated).
Adults have hyperfixations and audio processing issues and difficulty with memory and sensory issues.
Adults stim and experience RSD and have difficulty with punctuality because ‘time’ is not a concept our brains understand.
If you claim to support people with ADHD then mock adults as ‘cringey’ when they don’t magically stop being ADHD after they grow up, then you don’t support people with ADHD.
Don’t say you support people with ADHD and not monitor the way you show criticism of various things we do badly. It’s okay to criticism when we’ve done something badly, but a lot of us have rejection sensivity dysphoria and if criticize wrong will burst into tears and/or be utterly useless until the episode/spiral stops.
Don’t say you support people with ADHD and seat us in an open plan office with no music allowed and no real way to block sound, or way to vibrate the foot.
Don’t say you support people with ADHD and then not give extra time. The literal Bar Association was sued over this.
Why the heck would you not let us write down what you say in class/at work? No, our memories don’t work like that and it has nothing to do with technology.
Sensory overload sucks. I’m not just being grouchy. Sensory meltdown (or whatever the heck you call it when you become unresponsive to all interaction for like a hour in your shit brain’s attempt to heal itself from the damage of trying to be “good” and not make a fuss when you have sensory overload).
If I’m fidgeting with my fingers and something, I am paying more attention.
Do not say you support ADHD and take away our clocks/watches. Time blindness is a thing. Two hours feels like 5 minutes and vis versa.
Do not say you support ADHD and not realize (and remind us if necessary) that we really need to write stuff down because our hell brain will forget it in 5 minutes if we don’t.
This is for all of you who are disabled/mentally ill who can’t work or are currently taking a break from education
- you deserve a break sometime and shouldn’t feel bad about it
- you’re not a failure
- you’re not weak or pathetic
- you don’t have to meet neurotypical standards
- your worth is not based on your productivity
- not working or being in education does NOT make you lazy
- you’re valuable and have worth
I see myself in a lot of this! Is anyone else excited to tune into “Are you autistic?” On Channel 4 tonight? I was finally diagnosed with aspergers in December after years of waiting and I couldn’t be more happier to be a part of the autistic community ❤️ ❤️❤️
When searching for autism symptoms I ONLY found male symptoms. I was like ??? I dont have a lot of these and then I look into this and I wasn’t really happy going into it bc even tho im afab im not into feminine labels but i read this knowing id probably fit into it due to fact i was afab and i did!! Im really happy!! Im like wow i can actually relate to most of these!
The next time somebody gives you shit about your late autism diagnosis, remember that Anthony Hopkins was diagnosed as autistic when he was 70 years old.
People can go almost their whole lives and never know they’re autistic, but recognize they feel different from their peers.
And BTW Anthony Hopkins stims by rubbing his hands together, and being autistic is exactly why he’s such a good actor. He studies people’s mannerisms with an analytical mind, adopts those mannerisms for characters and turns out awesome performances. He’s a chameleon.
And he’s one of us, autistic community.
This is also important as a reminder that, while most mainstream discussion of autism focuses on autistic children, autism doesn’t magically go away when you become an adult. Many autistic adults are less visibly neurodivergent than we were when we were children. That doesn’t mean that we’ve become neurotypical. We’ve simply learned through years of experience how to act in a way that society deems “normal.” A surface-level change in behavior does not necessarily reflect a fundamental change in the way we think and perceive the world.
not so commonly talked about autism traits
~poor/abnormal posture ~trouble with left, right, and other directions ~disinterest in sports/physical activity ~rituals with no outcome ~large or unique vocabulary ~lack of organization ~intense compassion/empathy ~intense anger or no anger at all ~connections with animals ~difficulty understanding pop culture, styles, trends, etc
Any autistic person can tell you how easy it is for autism to go undiagnosed. For example
meltdowns can be misinterpreted as tantrums
sensitivity to food, light, sound, etc can be misinterpreted as whining or being picky
not knowing how to interact with people can be misinterpreted as shyness
one tiny, once-in-a-blue-moon success at something can make people believe that the problem never existed
autistic people often hide their traits to prevent being judged, and may eventually become good at hiding those traits
doctors have literally refused to diagnose people based on stereotypes (girls can’t be autistic, you have friends so you can’t be autistic, etc.)
Because of the possibility of autism being undiagnosed, it’s very likely that autism was just as prevalent in the past as it is now, and affects females just as much as males, even if statistics of the number of people diagnosed say otherwise.
Hi there! I was a bit nervous to share this, but I hope that being open about my struggles with mental health will help others going through the same thing feel less alone. Don’t give up!
eta: im new to all this so forgive me if i got some terminology wrong!
This is great

When you discover a new hyperfixation
finding out people dont usually add numbers by first adding something to make a ten (for example 7+6= 7 plus 3 is 10 plus another 3 is 13) & that its actually an adhd thing is the WILDEST shit literally ive lived like 10 years (or however old i was when i learned to add and stuff) thinking thats how everyone does it. what the fuck
Giant Ditto
adhd is literally just always like “that’s for future me to deal with”
i could literally be bleeding out on the floor and adhd would be like don’t worry about it man you have plenty of time to sort that out
