A Week of Silence

Hey Band.

This is kinda going to be a depressing post. Most of you have noticed that our portal account, twitter account and tumblr accounts have been dead silent for a while now and that is because Mrs. Vesperman, our band director was in a REALLY BAD car accident on Saturday. She will be okay, but she will be spending most of the summer either in the hospital or in rehab. If you guys could go and visit her I know that she would be overjoyed. Here is my vlog for today which basically goes into more detail of what has been going on the past week. Please go watch it. Thanks!

The Band Council President speaks!

Hey Band!

Today our lovely band council president (the one and only Katlyn Brack) blogged and posted a picture of the decorating committee preparing for the Band Banquet tonight. My "Wow am I really that old?" Party Song

Today our first chair clarinet Jaycee Renyolds posted the song that she and a few friends of hers wrote for my "wow am I really that old?" party (it was SUPPOSED to be a birthday party however when Mrs. England told my students my actual age it evolved into a different kind of party.) Anyway, it was really great and very funny! So, if you have the time, please go read it! Thanks again Jaycee!!

THE HISTORY

The city of Sanditon was founded in 1854 by George Denham as a mining town at the tail end of the California Gold Rush. But by 1866, the town was already transitioning to a seaside getaway. The mines closed by 1868, and the first businesses dedicated solely to tourism sprang up by 1870. The famous Sanditon Boardwalk opened in 1911, bringing with it a prosperous sixty years, but in 1977 was badly damaged by a severe winter storm. Under the leadership of our new mayor, Tom Parker, Sanditon is redefining itself for the 21st century.

THE BEACH

Sanditon perches beside the clear ocean of the California coastline, and visitors to our fair city find themselves unable to resist taking a dip in the water. Our crystalline white beaches are perfect for a brisk morning run, an afternoon round of volleyball, or an evening swim. The salt from the ocean permeates the air, enveloping the entire city in a mild speleotherapeutic treatment to soothe the lungs. Even our least healthy visitors leave the city feeling refreshed and renewed.

THE CULTURE

Quaint local attractions dot the seaside town of Sanditon. From evenings at the Sanditon Cinematheque watching films of days gone by to theme nights at our local businesses, from the bustling city library to the vibrant farmer’s market filled with organic food and live music, the residents of Sanditon know how to have a good time. Our famed Opening of the Beaches ceremony every Memorial Day allows for the artistic side of Sanditon to come out, as local artists and performers display their work for the community. Our Fourth of July weekend promises food, fun, and fitness: one of our many offerings for the weekend is a guided hiking tour of the mountains along Sanditon, including the best places to see the fireworks.

THE NEW SANDITON

Today, we’ve converted many of our older businesses and establishments to reflect Sanditon’s current values while retaining the charm of Old Sanditon. We are proud to introduce our visitors to the exciting new developments around town that have turned Sanditon into a dynamic wellness vacation spot. Opportunities present themselves to Sanditon every day, but we are always looking for more. We welcome and encourage new businesses and entrepreneurs. We are excited to say yes to a bright and healthy future with you.

Oh, the Shenanigans

I would like to thank Alex Brown for his um...enlightening...post on the domino portal today. It's quite humorous and it DEFINITELY reflects EXSACTLY what I would assume goes through a teenaged boy's mind (not that I would know, I have never been a teenaged boy). Alex is a wonderful student at Sanditon High. He is our leading trombone player and made 3rd chair at our last region competition. It makes me so sad that he is a junior and will be leaving us next year. If you have not med this wonderful young man, please do!

Hey Band!

So a lot of my students have been texting me (yes I know...I of all people am texting!!) asking if we could set up a Domino account. I thought it would be really great for our program as a whole so I went ahead and set one up. Every day we will have someone else blog/vlog (parents please note that if you have any problems with your child participating in this please email me at [email protected]) about their experience in band and in Sanditon as a whole! Quiet Days

Students,

Please know I love each and every single one of you dearly. HOWEVER when I get to work, and the band hall is completely empty...well...it's a good day. As much as I love the trombones' shenanigans and listening to the oboe...well...play. I do enjoy the peace, and quiet.

As many of you may know, I am the youngest chancellor SAotA has seen since it’s founding. You may also guess that am also the most newly married of all of the past chancellors. This has caused some small strains in my relationship with my wife, Lucy, and larger strains with the board of directors...

Tonight's Performance

I would like to personally thank all of you for all of your hard work tonight and thank you even more for behaving oh so well! I know your performance at Jawsica's funeral meant a lot to the community as well as Jawsica's friends and family! We have also been asked to perform on Tuesday at Sanditon Park for the "Meet The Sloths Day" event. It has been requested that we start with Sanditon's anthem. This performance should not take long, 45 minutes max. I ask that you meet at the park at 5:15, concert black is not required. Please try to look nice however do keep in mind, this is California so it may get hot. Once again thank you for your hard work and I will see each of you on Tuesday!

Please be on your best behavior, we will be representing our program and our school HOWEVER (and most importantly) we want to honor and respect Jawsica and those grieving her loss. Please arrive in concert black attire and I will see you tonight.

STW’s summer production will soon be holding auditions for our experimental re-working of Beauty and the Beast! It will be the same tale as old as time presented through fresh theatrical eyes.

You are all invited to try out, no matter what age or ability. This is a community show and anyone interested can be a part of it :) Stay tuned for how this would work…

We have just received word that the Sanditon High School Band will be preforming at the funeral and memorial service in honor of Jawsica Sharkson. We are greatly saddened by the circumstances of this performance, Jawsica was a dear friend and fellow lover of the fine arts. We wish to honor her and her life through our performance so we ask that our students be on their best behavior and perform the way I know the can! More details will be released when the directors learn more!

We were incredibly saddened to hear of the death of a Sanditon icon, Jawsica Sharkson, today. Jawsica was an absolute legend, and her death day, which she shares with Italian missionary Matteo Ricci, 2nd Earl of Dunfermline Charles Seton, reggae singer Bob Marley, and famed Italian violin maker Francesco Stradivari, is reflective of that.

To celebrate Jawsica’s life, we will be offering free admission the day of her funeral.
