"HELLO! I love your writing! Could you please write some fluff headcanons nd short scenario (if you want) about Kai Smith x FEM!ANGEL!reader?(she's a Elemental Master and the ninja of light),on their first date togather?at a café(reader is the one who suggested the date to Kai and he agreed) Thank you so much!"
Sweetest Angel
Kai Smith x reader
Thank you for requesting. I loved writing this one. I love me a good Kai fluff. Can you tell I’ve never written headcanons before? 🫣🫣 anyways enjoy
❤︎ After you joining the ninja team, Kai's liking of you grew a lot. Every room you walked into lit up, not because of your element but because of your personality.
❤︎ He'd stick around after missions to help you with your wings and do cute things to show that you were appreciated on the team. (he made it well known too, the team started to pick up on it as well)
❤︎ Nya and Jay was your wingman helping you in asking him out on a date. Zane, Cole and Lloyd were brainstorming how they could free both your schedules. Somehow Kai had absolutely no idea?
❤︎ Eventually, the two of you confessed to having a crush on eachother. Well, he confessed first, hoping you felt the same and you did!!
❤︎ Even though he has a very hot fire inside him, he knew when to turn it off especially around you. Only around you.
❤︎ You were sweet and angelic, literally. You were the light that he couldn't resist.
❤︎ Being sweet and angelic, you asked him out on a date and he suggested to go to one of the best local cafés in Ninjago City.
❤︎ With the duties of being a ninja, the two of you found free time and went out. (The ninja helped plan a free day for you two)
❤︎ The other ninja knew what was going on, but kept it a somewhat secret from Wu.
❤︎ He would obviously drive the two of you there in his red car. Very stylish.
❤︎ Once getting there, he was a gentleman, opening doors for you and pulling a chair for you. Truly the bare minimum but it was thoughtful.
❤︎ You'd get a dish of your choice with tea. He'd probably get a shot of espresso with a slice of tiramisu, to "seem classy" in front of you.
❤︎ Kai would be the one insisting on paying for the food and drinks. He would be paying because he's a gentleman.
❤︎ The two of you would pick out a little something for the other ninja.
❤︎ When you guys got back, the others were waiting to hear about this date and tease mainly Kai about it.
The morning of your date, Kai showed up at your door with a bouquet of flowers with millions of stars in his eyes. You were in an eloquent and flowy outfit with red accents to match his outfit while he wore something somewhat formal that wasn't his gi. Hand in hand, you two headed to his red car, he turned on some of his own music while he drove into the city. The excitement was building in your heart as you watched the buildings pass by.
You'd been crushing on Kai since he first helped you after one of the more rough missions, your wings were completely dirty and messed up and he stayed up to help you. He had been crushing on you since the first day of training when you completely destroyed him without powers.
In your head, you were imagining how the date would go, the things you two will talk about and the food you'll eat. While in his head, he was wondering how your felt about this date, praying to the FSM that the café date was the right decision. Even though you two met only a few months ago, both your minds were filled with thoughts of eachother.
Even after confessing, you and Kai couldn't believe that you were going on a date together. He always thought you were out of reach for him and you always thought you weren't his type. Both of you were clearly wrong, very wrong about eachother, but after pinning for weeks the tension snapped. Now, you were both heading over to your first ever date with Kai.
He parked the car and immediately got out to open your door. With how much people say Kai is a "playboy", having a sister meant he knew how to treat women, especially ones with wings. With a smile, you took his hand in yours as the two of you walked to the café. It was downtown through a quiet part of the city, perfect spot for a magical date.
"How'd you find this place?" You smiled reading the sign above, 'Sweetheart Café'.
"I have my ways, also it's the perfect place for someone with a sweet heart like you." Kai opened the door for you. How kind of him, a true gentleman. "It smells like heaven in here, must remind you of home."
"Hah, a little. It's much more different where I'm from, more incense but you were close." The two of you sit in a cute booth. Earning a light laugh from him.
A waiter in baby blue walks over to the table with menus and a knowing grin, greeting you guys, placing down the menus, and walking away. You took your time to look at the menu and decide what you wanted. While looking at the menu, Kai took peaks at you to make sure you were also enjoying this date, with the smile on your face he knew you were.
"Have you tried their famous chocolate chip cookies?" He looked up at you from his menu.
"I've never been to a café," you admitted. Most of the time you spent in Ninjago, you were in the monastery or assisting on missions. "Or had cookies."
"Well then we have to get it, you've had the chocolate cake at Cole's birthday dinner right?"
"Yeah, it was really good." You remembered Cole's birthday cake from a few weeks ago, it was a small gathering at the monastery. It was the first birthday party you ever attended, especially with the ninja.
"Then you'll like these chocolate chip cookies." He laid his menu flat and pointed at a photo of it. Kai's smile on his face was bright enough to make you smile as well.
The waiter comes back and asks what you and Kai would be ordering. You told them what you wanted and they wrote it down in their notepad. Kai ordered a tiramisu with a shot of espresso, also asking for two of their famous chocolate chip cookies. With a smile. they disappeared into the back of the café to get our orders.
"You've actually never had a chocolate chip cookie?"
"Nope, I'm glad I can try it though." You smiled. "I only ever had tea and the things you ninja eat in the monastery, but I do want to try new things."
Eventually, the waiter comes out and places the tray down with the dishes of treats and hot drinks for the both of you. Now, the table was filled with sweets, your tea and Kai's espresso. The two cookies looked amazing and smelled heavenly. You started to taste your dish and it was delicious, something you've never tasted before.
"What'd you get?" You asked him while looking at his dish.
"Some coffee and tiramisu." He answered while taking a bite, you sipped your tea. With the confused look on your face, he explained what it was. "it's like soft biscuits called ladyfingers, I know it's weird, soaked in coffee and layered with cream and cocoa power."
"So a coffee cake?" you tilted your head and smiled.
"Kind of, do you want to try some?" He offered a spoon full, reaching out in front of you. "Only if you want to."
"Sure." You leaned forward and he fed you a bite of the tiramisu. It was delectable, sweet and airy all at the same time. "Woah, it's really tasty."
"This place is my favorite for a good tiramisu." He smiled continuing to eat the tiramisu and licked his spoon.
Once you were both done with your dishes of choice, it was time to try the cookies. It was packed in a small box with a bow, fancy. You untied the bow and the smell of browned sugar and chocolate chips filled your nose. The huge and fresh cookies were hard to resist, you gave one to Kai and you had one for yourself.
"Cheers" he tapped your cookie with his and took a bite.
You took a bite as well, the flavor was more delicious than you expected, but the sweetness of the dough battled the bitter chocolate. The cookie was warm and the chocolate still melted, no wonder this was famous. You’ve never tried anything like it, beside cake but that was completely different.
"I like this more." You smiled.
"More than my tiramisu?!" Kai joked, smiling subtly. He really enjoyed seeing you happy and smiling. His massive crush on you was already increasing every second he spends with you.
"Yeah, definitely." You smirked. "We should get some for the others."
"You're right, I'll order it." He finished his cookie, but had a smudge of chocolate on his lips.
"You got something here." You pointed at your own lips while holding back a giggle.
He clearly didn't understand what you meant, completely missing the spot of chocolate, he leaned in for you to get it. He watched you for a second. "You get it for me."
You reached out to get the chocolate off his lips with a napkin. "There, perfect."
"Thank you." He smiled and looked out the window for a moment. You noticed he was blushing hard, he didn't want you to see.
"Are you flustered?" Your beautiful eyes met his.
"What? No."
"Do I make you nervous?"
"Yeah, how could I not be nervous around you." He laughed it off.
Before you could say anything more, he called for the bill using some hand motion that you didn't know of. Once the waiter came back you knew the date was coming to a close. Kai paid the bill and didn't give you any time to talk yourself into paying, he also ordered something for the other ninja with his money.
The two of you took the bag of treats back to the monastery. On the ride back to the monastery, it was warm and comfortable.
You liked him, no, you loved him.
Kai was just as sweet as you'd imagined, but most definitely sweeter.
Hey!! 🩵🩵 I loved your work so I wanted to request again. I hope that you’re well and that this isn’t too much for you.
May I request a Lloyd Garmadon x fem reader where the reader is the leader of a different “hero team” trying to strike up an alliance with the ninja. And she, despite trying to stay professional, catches feelings and ends up stuck with him for the night trying not to break and confess.
Again, sorry if this is too much! I just really like your writing. Have a nice day! 🩵
Blind Fate
Lloyd Garmadon x fem!reader
Thank you for requesting again!! sorry this took a bit, had a few request and trying to work on my other fics. Hope you enjoy!
It was a late night in the city, you were currently texting Lloyd about strong evidence for a case your team and the ninja were working together on. The two of you had been texting, met for meetings and went on missions but nothing too personal. You couldn't your heart for falling for the idea of him, he was sweet and kind of mysterious when it came to his personal life. To much of your heart's displeasure, you decided to keep everything very professional.
As of now, you were getting ready to put the evidence away safely and prepping to wake up early in the morning to deliver it. With butterflies floating in your stomach, you finish texting Lloyd and turned off your phone for the day. It's been a good month working with the ninja and you started to see them as your close friends outside of all the hero work.
A quiet humming sound came from your apartment building as Lloyd knocked on the window. To be honest you didn't except him to show up outside your apartment window, but he wanted to see for himself. Your heartbeat in your chest quicken when you saw him outside on your balcony.
"Lloyd??" You shut the door after he steps into your living room. A part of you was glad he came. "It's midnight, why are you here?"
You've been to the monastery many times before, they'd invite you and your team for post mission dinner or to hang out. It was comfortable, more comfortable than how you previously lived. You are the leader of your team, a group of heroes who fought against enemies of Ninjago without city resources or support from the government. Once you saw him at your window, you unlocked the glass sliding door and let him in.
For a second, you watch him formulate his thoughts in the moonlight. To be honest, he just wanted to see you again and maybe get some alone time with you. You were always around your teammates and Lloyd was always around his, that frustrated him because he wanted to get to know you more. "The evidence you were talking about."
"Oh, you didn't have to come you know? I was going to bring it to you in the morning. I must've forgotten to say that, so that's my bad." You walked over to the table with the envelope of evidence.
He writes his name in the chain of custody and reads over the evidence. The evidence would link one of the criminal organizations to a specific crime case your teams had been working on. Lloyd was now on your couch with a studious looking face that was solely focused on the evidence.
"Do you want something to drink?" You asked.
"Sure, any tea is fine." He smiled.
Thunder cracks and flashes from outside as rain starts to pour. The rain was rough and started all of a sudden, droplets hit your windows with the force of the strong winds. You started to boil some water for tea. I It was clear that the weather outside would make anyone sick. You didn't exactly know what tea he liked so you picked one of your favorite from your shelf.
"Did you drive here?" You peaked over to him on the couch, he looked so pretty in the lighting of your home. That thought disappeared in an instant, stay professional.
"No, I didn't. Didn't know it was going to rain tonight." His lips formed a straight line as he place down the evidence. He had finished reading it all and completely forgot how he'd get home. Lloyd was so focused on seeing the evidence and you, that he didn't check the weather before leaving.
"How'd you get here then?" You poured the boiling hot water into a cup with the tea packet. Lloyd was looking outside now. He answered softly. "Ninja ways."
"Yeah? The rain isn't going to stop for a good hour and a half." You said with a worried laugh. Once you finished pouring the water, you grabbed the two mugs and handed one to him.
"It's fine, I'll just have to get home fast…" His voice trailed off.
"Or you can stay here." You offered, feeling bad for him potentially getting soaked in the rain but also wanting to talk to him. "Can't have the mighty green ninja getting sick.."
"Hah, yeah. Are you sure?" Lloyd sipped the tea. "I don't want to be a bother. I didn't even tell you I was coming."
"Yeah, an hour and a half isn't bad. We can wait out the rain." You smiled and placed your mug of tea on the coffee table. The hot tea that burned your tongue warmed the rest of your body.
"About the evidence…" He picked it up again. You watch as he figures out a connection between it and the case. "It's clear that this is the doing of the same criminal organization we thought it was. Where's you get this from?"
You knew this question would come up at some point, in reality you snuck into one of the zones of the crime alone. Which was a stupid dangerous decision.
"I went to one of the sites. It was a fast in and out, so no need to worry about it." You shrugged, hoping he wouldn't make a big deal out of it.
"Only you?" He watched you, in a gentle way. His glimmering eyes trying to read why you went alone and why you would've done something that idiotic.
"My team was busy."
"Still, you could've called my team… or me."
"I figured you'd would be busy." You laughed dryly and sipped your tea.
You knew going to that site alone wasn't your best idea but in return you got all the information needed to connect the dots. This file now sitting in front of you on the table was all worth it.
"Busy or not, we are in alliance now so call for us anytime you need. Especially, if it relates to a high risk case, we have to trust each other."
"I do trust you."
Quiet tapping of the rain outside was the only sound filling the awkward silence within the room. It wasn't that you didn't trust Lloyd or the ninja, you were extremely attached to working alone.
"Do you?"
"Yeah, surprisingly more than you might think." You smiled. Your heart was beating through your chest wanting to spill how you truly felt.
After a few minutes of talking about anything and everything, there was a question that lingered in your mind. Lloyd and you were talking about something while your teas got cold. It was comfortable talking with him, he got the references you made and you two shared the same humor.
With a long pause, you asked him the burning question in your head since he appeared on your balcony. "So why'd you decide to show up unannounced in the middle of the night?"
Even though you knew it was because of the evidence but a part of you knew he wasn't telling the full truth. He knew exactly why he did it and was not willing to admit it just yet, when you asked him, he was surprised by your boldness and caught off guard. You wanted him to say that he was interested in you or at least allude to feeling the same.
"The evidence-"
"That's can't be the only reason. Lloyd, I'm not stupid." Your tone was practically begging him to confirm you thoughts.
"I don't know." He nervously looked down at his hands like he got caught.
"You don't just show up at someone's house in the middle of the night for this." You pointed at the envelope in front of the two of you.
"Yeah, you're right… it's because I just wanted to see you." He admitted, hoping your couch pillows will engulf him.
"Me too." You said softly.
Lloyd's smile grew as a pink glow dusted his cheeks. You catch his eyes drift to your lips but back to your eyes. "Really?"
"Yeah, I really like you." As much as you wanted to stay professional, your heart knew what it truly wanted.

thank you for requesting!!! I hope the 10 young Wu fans enjoy this 😭😭
Iron Baron tasked you to hunt and capture the son of the first spinjitzu master to prove yourself to be loyal to the hunters. You were on the best hunters that Iron Baron had under his control. The week was long, the clan had captured alleged Oni with powers and put them in the pit. After that mess, rumors started to circulate that that group of Oni were in kahoots with one of the son's of the first Spinjitzu master.
You needed to find him fast.
Faith, you're friend was sent separately to find the escapees and later you were assigned to find the son of the first spinjitzu master. Iron Baron placed an official order for you to find him. You were given a brief description of what he had looked like and went on that mission.
After hours of searching for him on your flying vehicle, you found him against a rock alone, probably daydreaming about something in the distance. The white messy hair tied back in a half-bun messily with a orange bandanna matched exactly what you were looking for.
You got off your vehicle and hid it behind some massive rocks. In your head, your plan was to pretend to betray Iron Baron, injured due to that and ask the son for help. The back up plan was to knock him out with your weapon and just take him there, but he seemed nice-looking so you went with the first plan.
"Hey, are you okay?" He got up.
Somehow, you grabbed the attention of him and started the acting. A part of you felt bad about what you were planning on doing. You dismissed that doubt and continued the acting. You had the white face paint of the Iron Baron but it was mostly smuggled off.
"No…" you said quietly and sat against the rocks.
"Aren't you one of Dragon Hunters?" He stood infront of you, seeing you bleeding through your jacket.
"Not anymore." You said, holding your injury. He asked softly, glancing over at your posture and the way you held your stomach. "Not anymore?"
"Are you hurt?"
Earning a hum from you, he looked for something in his pocket and handed it to you. It was a small vile filled with a mysterious glowing liquid. With a pause of hesitation, you looked up at him. His eyes were kind, but nothing was behind it, no secret look of evil, just kindness.
"What's in this?" You took it from his hands.
"It's a healing elixir." He sat next to you.
You looked at it and then back at him, before opening it and taking a sip. It instantly healed your wound and relieved your once tense body. The glass was now empty and you placed it in his hand.
"Thanks, you didn't have to help to me."
"Well, I'd be a horrible person if I had let you bleed out." He smiled looking into your eyes.
"Why? You knew I was the enemy." You tiled your head
"You said not anymore." He looked up at the stars, paying no mind to what you were doing.
"Yeah, you're right." Your hand slowly reached for your rope and a potion to knock him out, but he asked another question out of anywhere. You didn't notice but he realized what your were planning, he knew what you were up to be wanted to see if you could have a change of heart.
"What made you join the Dragon Hunters?" He looked back at you, testing you.
"Family." You said shortly, removing your hands from your rope and the potion.
A stretch of silence casted over the two of you. He was thinking about what to say next. You didn't know what kindness was until he given you that elixir and all your life you had been a weapon for Iron Baron.
This silence was new to you, something that you wanted to soak in forever. Perhaps it was due to the fact that you've never experienced comfortable silence.
"Family. That's noble."
"What about your family?" You hummed. "You have anyone?"
"It's confusing."
He rambled on about his family from what he could remember, he didn't break about his Oni side. Wu knew to keep that a secret from you. He continued to see if you would move forward in capturing him.
"I'm Wu, I don't believe I told you."
"I'm N/N." You didn't want to give away your real name.
You waited to him to look away or become distracted, so you could take him out. He was focused on getting to know you and you started to warm up to him. That plan of capturing the first spinjitzu master was no longer your focus. Your answers to his questions became less and less short, your once guarded heart started to open up.
"Do you like being with the Dragon Hunters?" he asked with his white hair shining in the moonlight.
"I mean…" You looked away into the night sky. "it's all I've really known."
"I'm assuming by your tone, that's a 'not really'."
"You could say that, I just want to know life outside of all this." You spoke with guilt.
"If you don't like the road you are walking, start paving a new one."
Speaking with him for what felt like hours, you wanted to ditch that plan to capture him. Your iced heart was melting into his words. Forgetting your real goals for being in his presence. You enjoyed speaking to people your age who were out to come for your title or position.
"You're pretty wise, Wu." You looked at him softly. "Where'd you gain so much wisdom?"
"A loving heart is the truest wisdom." He spoke with wisdom .
No one you knew had a loving heart or showed it. "A loving heart?"
"Yeah, the greatest wisdom comes from compassion."
You froze, compassion was something you had to kill within yourself to become this great hunter. Now, he was saying compassion would make you a smarter person. A weight on your chest was forming, all that tension between your heart and head was pounding.
"What if I don't have that?" You practically whispered about the compassion part.
"Everyone has it." He glanced over at you.
"I don't think I do." You relaxed and leaned your head against the rocks. "I've only known pain my whole life.
"You don't think you do because you're chosing to ignore it."
"Maybe, but you don't know me." You laughed dryly and closed your eyes.
The moonlight on your face was enough to fill that deep sad hole in your heart, or was it his presence? You were starting to become confused. That warmth you felt sitting next to him and just talking about life, made you not want to break it. If you did in fact complete the mission now it would all fall down.
"I know that you were sent here to capture me." He started calmly. Your eyes snapped open and you looked at him. You were to blind to notice him analyzing your every move. He wasn't as naïve as you originally thought and you weren't either. "But I also know that you won't."
"How do you know I won't?" You shifted slightly away from him.
Were you that obvious?
"Because I believe you would've done it by now." He sighed and stood up to stretch. "But I also believe you had a change in heart."
You were dumbfounded and blankly stared at him. Was what he was saying true? Well, you did feel bad for the people the hunters hurt but all your life you were trained to dismiss that feeling. It was still a strong lingering feeling.
"Which is why I believe you do have compassion. You just choose to ignore it, but it's there and what drew me in about you." Wu confident smile returned.
Hi 👋 👋 👋 👋 I just seen your work recently and I really like it and I was wondering if you can do a Lloyd x fem reader where the reader loses control of their powers then goes nuts and Lloyd tries to stop her and then she passed out but the flip side is here attack only affected the enemy not the ninja and when she woke up she feels guilty that she lose control. You can do it either headcannons or fan fic it's up to you if that's alright?
Control
Lloyd Garmadon x fem!reader
thank you for requesting ♥️
You and Lloyd were sent on a mission by Master Wu to investigate a high profile criminal organization who has been haunting the ninja for months. Well, specifically you, they've been targeting you for your powers. You learnt their intentions on one of the team's missions.
On that mission, you were separated from the others and you made one of the organization's members spill their information. They knew about your powers and how it related to the world ending prophecy. After that mission, Pixal had been trying to locate their main meeting point for weeks and Wu explained the prophecy to you.
Your element wasn't natural, it didn't come from previous masters, but it was embedded into your soul. The way you continue to use the power would affect the entire realm. That's why the enemy organization was searching for you through traces of your powers.
Once you joined the ninja, your power traces became increasingly stronger and they found you. They wanted to harvest and turn your powers against Ninjago.
The two of you travelled to a abandoned factory building in the middle of New Ninjago City, where there were plentiful traces of the organization. Your job was to find out who was behind the organization and prevent them from causing anymore harm.
The night washed over the city, you and Lloyd snuck in through a window in the roof. Lloyd scans the inside of the building to see if it was clear to continue through. There seemed to be no one there. It was dark but he uses his powers to light the part of the building that you two were in.
"It's quiet, but I hear buzzing…" you whispered to him.
"Really?" he continued walking through the building. "I don't hear anything…"
"Let's just finish this fast."
The two of you made it to some form of makeshift office room and began looking through files. In that room, the buzzing sound was faded but still there hurting your ears.
These files held plans of all previous and future attacks that this organization was involved in. Lloyd put the important ones on the table and you kept scanning through them.
Within the file drawer, there was a secret compartment that you accidentally clicked open. The compartment held names and photos of people working for them.
"Is this the boss?" You whispered, holding up a photo.
"It could be, we should take these back-"
A loud noise was heard outside of the room, cutting Lloyd off. It was still an abandoned building… it could've been a few mice knocking something down. The sound echoed through the walls. Shaking the files off the desk. It sounded like a machine being turned on.
"Do you think-" you were cut off by aching pain in your head.
"Are you okay?" Lloyd ran over to you as you held your head.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
The noise happened again so you and Lloyd went to investigate it, assuming it was someone from the organization. You two grabbed some of the more important files and shoved it inside both of your bags.
The noise was horrible but you continued to preserve with him. He put on his mask and you followed his movements.
Stepping out of the room and heading to the main area of open space. It was empty, not a single person was there. The eeriness of the warehouse was starting to get to you. Lloyd was scanning the surroundings to make sure it was just you two.
"It must've been some stray animal, let's get these back to the others." You sighed in relief.
"Stray animal?" A deep voice chuckled from behind you startled you two. "Oh, you two aren't leaving."
The figure stepped out of the shadows, revealing themselves in a dark shadowy hood. They took off their hood and smirked. It was the boss of the organization found in the drawer. Lloyd secretly called for back up, but they wouldn't get their for a few minutes. The two of you had to stall.
You shoot blasts of your powers towards them but it was blocked by some powerful shield. Your powers were deflected from the shield with ease. They started walking closer to the two of you. There was a air of uncertainty in how this fight would go.
"We've been waiting for your powers to truly awaken." They spoke directly to you.
"Why her?" Lloyd asked, with his hands and guard up. He was ready for anything to happen, ready to fight.
"Because of all the things that can happen with her powers, but it's being wasted on playing stupid dress up with the ninja…" Their voice rasped and they took out something from their pocket. "You can always join us, Y/N."
"I will never."
"Well, then we'll have to take your powers from you." They stepped forward with another relic in hand, making Lloyd shoot energy at them. It must've been a energy stealing relic.
The relic drops from his hand and shatters. The blast barely touches the boss. One of their other members emerged from the shadows and tackles Lloyd. The boss cranked up the machine causing your ears to ring more.
Through the pain, you used your powers to try and push the guy off of Lloyd. "Get off him!"
A huge blast of power come from you, taking over your self control. Your eyes glowed in the darkness. In front of you, the boss was smirking like their plan was working. Your blasts get them off of Lloyd, but when you tried stopping your powers nothing was happening. It was like there was no longer an off switch.
Another few of the organization's members come over and fight the two of you. Anger only fueled you more, snapping the control on your powers. A part of you wanted to destroy the enemy organization, but you needed you focus and help Lloyd.
The enemy organization's boss increased the frequency in the remote causing you to lose full control of your powers. The frequency was messing up your powers on purpose, to scare you into letting your power take over. That machine was designed to trigger your powers into uncontrollable energy. Lloyd gets up and attacks the boss with the machine's remote in hand.
The shield protected the boss from being hit with anything. You and Lloyd realized the shield was being casted by the other member.
Lloyd quickly turned to them and blasted them with energy, just enough to falter the shield. Along with that blast of energy, your self control of your powers slipped. Allowing the powers fully taking over your body. There was no turning back, it fully engulfed you.
You grabbed the boss once the shield failed and charged up your power to finish it off. The power in your body was hunting for blood, which went against what the ninja stood for. That no murder rule that Master Wu stood by, flashed through your mind. It was too late, your powers were already committed to ending-
"Y/N, don't!" Lloyd shouted, held you back to prevent you from severely hurting the boss.
You couldn't protest, only feeling your own element betray your morals. As much as you wanted to turn off your powers, it kept resisting.
"We'll have to continue this another day." The leader spoke once they were freed, with a smirk at what they triggered. The boss of the organization and the other members fled the scene, leaving with the machine's remote.
They got what they wanted, unlocking your powers fullest and darkest potential.
Your powers never once wanted to draw blood, it was taking over you. The other ninja came into the abandoned building and how your powers were going crazy, as they started to flee. Your powers were still messed up and out of control. It was eating you alive.
This wasn't your true potential, you've already reached that. It was worse and way more powerful. The ninja knew your powers came from something different from theirs and that you had to train yourself to hold back, to prevent the prophecy. There was nothing you could do to hold back your powers anymore.
Now, the building was empty with that buzzing noise still playing. Lloyd had already let go of you and was trying to you from further harm. The once dark building was lit up by the powers illuminating from your skin. Lloyd was now desperatly looking for the spare vengestone in his own bag to stop your powers from fully destroying your body.
"I can't stop it." You choked out, trying to stand up right.
"I know," He rushed to find the vengestone. "I know."
"It hurts."
"I know, just stay with me." Lloyd was trying to stay calm for you.
Your powers were already draining the energy from you and causing you feel exhausted. He found the vengestone necklace and pull it around your neck, stopping your powers.
Seconds later, you collapse into him due to your body completely shutting down. He caught you and with shaky hands, he searched for a pulse. Once he felt you were still breathing, he let out a sigh of relief.
Minutes later, he saw the ninja finally get to the factory. They immediately saw your unconscious body gently laid in a paniced Lloyd's lap. Lloyd was using his powers to help you regain energy.
"Is she going to be okay?" He asked Zane
"Probably, she's strong."
Without question, Zane helped Lloyd carry you to the Bounty and get you safely back to the monastery. The other ninja assisted in clearing out and taking the important files from the factory. Lloyd was in charge of watching over you as you healed and recovered.
When you woke up, Lloyd was sitting by your bedside and your head was pounding. You immediately tried sitting up and remembering what happened. A wave of guilt rushed over you once you recalled the events of the previous mission.
"How are you feeling?" He asked you softly.
"Horrible, but the ringing went away." You rubbed your eyes.
"That's good." He smiled.
A moment of silence passed by as you were starting to wake up. Lloyd's hair was a mess but in his stupid green pajamas. You noticed his restless eyes on you. His eyes reminded you of how he looked when you almost killed the leader.
"Did you stay here all night?"
"Yeah, just making sure youre still alive." He joked, a beat of awkwardness was felt.
"I'm sorry about that mission." You blurted out. "I should've controlled my powers better."
"No need to apologize, we've all make mistakes."
"Yeah, a mistake that could've killed someone."
"And you didn't."
"That's not the point, I-"
"It's okay, Y/N" he stopped you. "You're alive and safe now."
The party came to an end, and everyone started heading out with goodbyes. You stayed with a few others to help clean up the house. Nya had found you while you were cleaning, practically pulling you away from that room. You willingly went with her to talk. She knew immediately what was up with you and Kai after the game.
"Nya, what should I do?" You asked her.
"About Kai?"
"Yes, I've didn't actually think he liked me the same way I did."
"N/N. Are you serious?" She said flatly. "He's been in love with you since the day I introduced you two. He was just too much of a loser to confess."
"I mean, he did confess during the game… after I confessed," you paused. "And we kissed."
"Really?!" She basically shouted. "Fucking finally!"
"Shhh, yes."
"Okay, I have a plan." She left the room, and you went back to 'tidying up'.
Kai was left to put away the unused drinks and food, and he seemed to be pulled aside by Nya. You didn't know what she was saying or what she was scheming.
After that conversation, he went to look for you. He found you in the living room, cleaning up the coffee table alone; everybody besides Nya, Jay, and you had left the house. You heard him from behind you and turned around to face him. The two of you haven't spoken since the heated make-out in the storage room.
The house was mostly clean with a lingering sense of previous lust.
"Do you want to stay the night?" He asked.
You hesitated and looked over at Nya. She was smugly watching you and Kai, with a wink; you knew what she was planning behind the scenes. She and Jay were talking and getting ready to head out.
"I mean, if not," He stuttered slightly. "I can drive you home-"
"No, I'll stay." You looked back up at him and gently touched his cheek. "Plus, I still owe you."
His smile returned softly. He leaned in closely to share a secret kiss with you.
After the two of you cleaned the rest of the house, you were now lounging on the couch. Soon, Nya was going to head over to Jay's apartment to stay.
"Alright, I'm going to stay over at Jay's place," Nya announced.
"Don't have too much fun!" You giggled.
"You too," Jay laughed.
"Okay, okay, I will miss you two," Nya dragged Jay out the door. "Only you two, no surprises!"
"Oh my god, get out!" Kai yelled.
You waved goodbye to Jay and Nya as they headed to Jay's place. The second the door closed, you two were already kissing. You were lying on the couch as he leaned down from above you.
"You're excited," you laughed.
"I couldn't wait." He kissed you again.
Your legs were almost wrapped around him. The hard bulge in his jeans pressed against you slightly, just enough to the point where you felt him and wanted more of it. That small point of contact was enough to make you fold for him.
Everything spiraled and unraveled so quickly. You were catching up on that lost time with him. Your hands did the exploring again, lightly brushing against his body.
You felt yourself get increasingly wetter as the kissing went on. He groaned into your lips as the kiss got messier.
Feeling you touch him like that made something light up inside him. Your lips kissed down his jaw to his ear, and then found their way back to his soft lips.
He was strong and seemed to still be working out a lot; he carried you easily to his room.
Kai's room was always a space that you loved to explore, but there was more to it now. It seemed to have matured alongside him.
You didn't focus on his room for long because he placed you delicately on his bed.
Your figure wasn't foreign to his bed, but to the deepest parts of his dark red sheets, you were. All those long, stress-filled nights thinking about you were no longer just a wet fantasy in his sheets. He dreamt of all the ways he was going to get with you in his bed, nothing compared to this moment.
"Tell me what you want, Kai." You looked up at him.
"I just want you. All of you." He held your gaze.
"You have all of me." You pulled him down for another deep kiss by his shirt.
As you held his shirt, his hands went to explore your body. You felt his hands reach for the edge of your shirt. You lifted your arms as he took it off and threw it somewhere in his room.
In return, you discarded his shirt to the floor. He was working out a lot more than before, way more. His body was like eye candy; you kept eyeing him.
"Like what you see?" He grinned at you, gawking.
"Shut up." You scoffed.
He kissed you, and you went lower to leave small red marks along his chest. He unclamped the clip of your bra, and cool air brushed against your chest. It was covered by his warm hands. His hands massaged you, trying to memorize your feelings in his hands.
"You're so warm," you muttered under your breath before meeting his lips again.
His movements were deliberate and slow to make up for that missed time. He kissed between your tits. Your hands found his hair again. His hands went lower, reaching your pants and slowly undressing you. You lifted yourself to make it easier.
Kai kisses down from your neck to find his way down. He left a trail of kisses down your chest to your thighs. Now fully kneeling to the ground, he looked up at you and softly kissed your thighs. He paused and asked you.
"May I?" He traced the waistband of your underwear.
"Please." You pleaded and watched him in anticipation.
He moved in between your legs, carefully removing your panties, and it became a part of the pile of other discarded clothes. Kai adjusted you so you'd be more comfortable, placing your legs on his shoulder. Your elbows fully supported you.
"You're so wet already," he whispered, looking up at you. "Is it because of me?"
"I'm not feeding your ego more," you laughed.
Kai leaned closer to your clit and held your inner thighs. He began to lick and tease your sensitive spots. You gasped as he started; his hot tongue was enough to drive you crazy.
Two of his fingers started making small circles around the sweet spot to add to the pleasure. He slipped them inside and curled up with you. His other hand held you open as he started to explore.
As he kept sucking, one of your hands found his hair and tugged at it lightly. He didn't expect to enjoy it and groaned at the touch.
The vibrations from his throat were felt through your body. Your hips buckled, and your back arched forward. You breathe his name out, tilting your head back and playing with his hair.
All the sensations of his tongue were building up in your core. The tension in your core was reaching its peak, but he kept his pace. He made long strokes against you to drag out the feeling. His tongue and fingers worked in unison to give you all the pleasure you had been waiting for.
"Oh fuck-" you groaned. "Kai, I'm close-"
He grinned against you and helped you reach your peak. Waves of pleasure trembled through your body. His tongue lapped all the silk around you.
As you came down and recovered from your high, he finished cleaning you up and left your legs panting, wanting more.
You held his chin and pulled him in for a kiss; you tasted yourself on his salty lips but were too dazed to care. He held your hair in the kiss, pulling it back gently to deepen the kiss.
His touch felt like heaven, and you craved more of him, more of his touch. The crush you had on him was blossoming with every kiss; it was getting harder to keep your hands off of him.
He felt the same way; the way you came undone just by his touch sparked something else. He loved you for so long and now finally could show you in every way. As you kissed, you felt his hard-on against you. Your hands found their way to his belt and started to unbuckle him.
"Do you want more?" He asked excitedly against your ear as you undressed him.
"Yes, I want to feel you." You let his pants drop down to the floor. He was standing in front of you, now only in his boxers. You could basically see him throbbing in his boxers. He freed himself from his boxers, revealing his aching cock.
It was clear that he was hard. He was decently big, but bigger than you expected or could even dream about. Kai was going to reach for a condom in his nightstand drawer, but you spoke quickly.
"It's okay, I'm on the pill."
"Ah, alright." His smirk returned.
He crawled onto the bed, and you backed up until you hit his pillows and headboard. You were sitting up, looking up at him.
His dark brown hair, which was always up, was a mess. His eyes were darkened with desperation and love, focusing only on you.
You had left him hanging only two hours ago after the storage room. He had to try to jerk off in the bathroom, thinking about you; it couldn't compare to actual sex. Leaving him half limp and desperate.
Now, he was ready for all of you. To actually feel you and not imagine it.
"Tell me if it's too much." He husked.
You hummed in response, and Kai lined himself up with your entrance.
"I need words." He paused.
"Okay, I'm good." You nodded. His tip traces your dripping folds, teasing you. You choked out a small sound as he started to push inside you.
His hand against the headboard steadied him, and he left another hand on your waist to guide you. Inch by inch, he groaned into your shoulder.
He stretched you out, filling you.
It was huge, you felt him everywhere and every small pulse in his veins.
"S' big," you moaned.
"You're so tight," he murmured in your ear. "Does it hurt?"
"No," you choked out a short response,
Kai picked up the pace and found a good rhythm. He watched himself bottom in and out of your body. The lewd sounds of sex filled the room; it was music to both of your ears.
Once he found your sweet spot, you moaned his name and lazily linked your legs around him. He smirked as he started doing most of the work. Your hands found their place, scratching his back; he loved it.
He loves seeing you unravel into a mess on his pillows.
Every movement brought the two of you closer to the edge of release. You grabbed his face to kiss his lips. Your foreheads were close together as he began to steady the pace and buckled his hips closer.
"You're so pretty like this," he whimpered.
The two of you were reaching the highest point. He moved one of your legs to sit on his shoulder while he deepened his thrusts. His angle was perfectly aligned with your sweet spot.
"I'm almost-" your head leaned back into the headboard of the bed. "Close."
"Me too," he bit back a moan.
Your back arched into him as your walls clenched around him. The coil inside you snapped, and you came undone again. As you came down, he continued to chase his high.
He buried himself deep and came harder. Hot thick ropes filled you. As he came, he whimpered softly in your ear as he finished pumping into you. Kai pulled out and kissed you softly.
"You're perfect," he went to get a towel to clean you up.
You lay back against his pillows, and you noticed all the ways his room had stayed the same. He kept your photos. He kept every little gift you got him. When he got back, he was holding a wet towel to clean you.
"That was better than I could have ever imagined," you lay on his bed as he cleaned you up.
He laughed and lay with you. "Yeah, no kidding."
"I love you," you blurted out.
"I love you too," he kissed you. "I always have."
The two of you lie in bed together for the rest of the night. Moonlight shone from his window onto both of your bodies. Eventually falling asleep and mirroring each other's breathing. The night went on, finding comfort sleeping next to each other. It was the perfect way to finish out the night.

What’s up? I saw your request rules and thought I might request something.
Could I potentially request a Lloyd Garmadon x fem reader who is ashamed of her past relationships (of which she’s had a lot) and feels bad that her new boyfriend lacks the experience she has and potentially feels like he judges her for her past?
Totally understand if this is something you don’t feel comfortable writing. Have a nice day!! 🩵
Sweet Boy
Lloyd Garmadon x fem!reader
short one shot for this lovely requester 💚 I love writing for reqs, so pls request
It had been only three months since the two of you made it an official relationship. You didn't push him to do anything he didn't want to do. You waited for him when he went on missions. You loved him when he was feeling down.
This particular night was different, he came in the same way he always did. Something was off, he wasn't pissed or sad, there was something else. A look he had never worn around you. You couldn't exactly explain the look. You let him in and he closed the window.
You didn't expect him to come. "Hey, you're up late." He normally came around at nine or ten o'clock, never later. You felt something was off.
"I needed to see you." He looked shier than usual and sat with you on your bed.
"Yeah?" You reached up and touched his face. "What's up?"
Instinctively, he places his hands on your waist. "I want to do more for you."
"You're doing perfect already," You moved his hair.
"I just.. I want to give you more," he said simply.
Relationship wise, he knew you had more experience than him. You knew he has done less things than you and that was perfectly fine. Before you, he didn't really have a stable relationship with someone he loved. You knew that and wanted things to go slow for him.
He watches you for a few seconds, then leans into kiss you. You knew he never initiated a kiss with you before. He was innocent when it came to romance. You kissed him back, gently. A part of you felt relieved that he was opening up to you, but the other part of you felt he was only opening himself up because he had to.
You stopped and pushed him slightly away. "Lloyd… you don't have to anything if you don't want to."
"I want to be enough for you," he whispered.
"And you are," you held his hand.
He paused. "Y/N, I don't feel like I am."
"Is it 'cause of… my past relationships??"
He went quiet, you knew what he was thinking. You were right, he was worried about your past relationships. Lloyd was hesitant on bringing it up. He knew it was sensitive topic and it made him insecure about himself.
You knew it would come up at some point. Your biggest fear was him judging you for your past relationships. You weren't sure where this conversation was going.
"I know you don't like talking about it, but I feel like I'm holding you back compared to what you've had before me." He admits.
"You're not holding me back," you looked into his eyes. "Like I said before, where we are right now is perfect."
You felt bad about your past and the fact that he has less experience than you. "I want to do more than just the kissing." He says before you can continue your tangent.
"Lloyd, you don't-"
"No, I want to." He cuts you off.
I hope this is what you were looking for and hope you enjoyed! My requests are very much open and empty so if you want to see more, feel free to req!!
small warnings: suggestive, drinking (mentioned), kissing, and making out.
~2.1k words
The party was dying down, and everyone had decided to move to the basement to play the game. There were drinks and cans of beer, but you didn't take any. Nya had offered you some, and you kindly decided it. The group decided to play a few games to wind down the night.
Seven minutes in heaven was such a childish game to you, but to everyone else, they wanted "spice" things up. Music that was previously being blasted and turned lower as Kai stood up to explain the rules for the game.
Unbeknownst to him, you had a small crush on Kai ever since you two were children. It wasn't a small crush anymore, not like when he accompanied Nya on her play dates with you or when he helped you with your math homework. Now, it was real.
You thought it was an innocent crush that grew over time and would disappear.
But during the last summer, right before everyone went to college, it peaked. You and the others all went on a remote hiking trip in the mountains. It was the best trip you've ever been on.
At the bonfire, the way he looked at you with the firelight on his face. The way he helped you roast your marshmallows. His full attention on you. That stupid glint in his eyes. The focus on his face when you were speaking or just existing. Small things that you noticed and picked up on.
The way he snuck glances at you when you weren't looking. That look he didn't have with anyone else. It was really the soft parts about him that you loved.
If Nya didn't tell you those things, you probably wouldn't have any hope that he might like you back. You hoped that you weren't reading it wrong.
After that summer, you knew it was not just an innocent crush. You texted him every day about everything: your life, your new friends. He would send good morning texts every morning, call you to help you with your coursework, and do everything to make it seem like he was still there.
Throughout the semester, you noticed a beautiful girl started appearing more and more in his stories. He never mentioned her to you. She tried following your account, and you assumed the worst. You stopped responding to his texts completely, and if you had to, it was short.
So, you wanted to forget about that crush on him because you were too late in confessing. Choosing to ghost him completely to forget, not wanting to get in the way.
Now, it was the first time the group had hung out altogether since that hiking trip. College had already kicked in, and the friend group slowly expanded. You kept up with the others, but you and Kai didn't seem to keep any form of contact.
Throughout the party, Kai didn't see you that much, and he looked for you. He knew you were there because Nya told him she made sure you'd come. It was their end-of-semester party. They always hosted at their house.
You didn't know how you ended up in a circle playing seven minutes in heaven with your close friends and a few new, unfamiliar faces, but you did know you were extremely scared for your pairing. Kai started to explain the rules from the center of the circle.
"Every player will put their phones into this pillow case to draw who they'd be partnered with." His eyes met everyone's in the circle. "You and your partner will be in the storage room for only seven minutes, no if's, ands, or but's"
"Lastly, consent is key. You don't have to do anything that you don't want to." He held out the pillowcase, and everyone put their phones in it. The only person that wasn't really going to play was Lloyd, he didn't put his phone in and said he'll sit it out.
"Who wants to go first?" Kai sets the bag of phones in the center of the circle.
"I'll go." A girl, whom you recognized from Kai's stories, volunteered to go first.
"Go ahead, Skylor." Kai grinned and sat down across from you.
She got up and reached into the bag. Secretly, you snuck a few looks at Kai. The phone she pulled out belonged to Cole. The two of them headed into the storage room, and the seven-minute timer started. You watched them walk into the room.
"Who was that?" You whispered to Nya.
"One of Kai's new friends heard she's his partner for one of his courses," She hummed. "Or something."
So, she was also smart.
"Oh, cool." You glanced at Kai from across the room. He was chatting with Zane and Lloyd. Not paying any mind to the round that was going on. Nya confirmed that the girl was close to him.
Maybe it was time for a drink, at least to act like you weren't a softy like in high school. You stood up and leaned down to grab something from the fridge. You returned to your seat next to Nya.
After seven minutes, they came out. Cole got to pick the next player for the second round. He picked Zane to go. Zane pulled out a phone and headed into the room. A few rounds later, it was your turn to pick a phone from the cases.
Putting the can of whatever drink you had down, you went over and picked up a phone. Without looking, you grabbed one and looked at it. It was a red phone with golden and black edges. You scanned the room and showed everyone. The moment you saw the case, you knew it was his.
It was. It was Kai's phone.
Kai stood up from the floor, handing the timer to Cole, and watched you. He opened the storage room door for you. "After you."
"How charming," you went in.
Kai laughed shortly and quietly followed behind you, making sure to close the door properly. He was basically dying to speak to you again after you ghosted him. The two of you settled in the room, not bothering to sit down.
"So, how have you been?" You asked dryly.
"Good," he leaned against the shelf behind him. "You?"
"Same," you replied, and the silence seeped into the room.
The silence was deafening; the two of you haven't truly spoken in a while. College was kicking you in the ass, and you had no idea what he was up to. Besides, seeing a bit of his stories and posts. Your gaze lingered on the floor.
You had already noticed it, the second you stepped into the darkly lit room together. His dark eyes looked the same as the night at the bonfire. The way he looked at you was exactly how you remembered, as if no time had passed.
"Y/N, I missed you so much." He broke the silence with a whisper. "Why did you ghost me out of nowhere?"
"You could've texted me, too." You were deflecting again. "The phone works two ways."
"I did," He stepped a bit closer, speaking softly, "and you know what I mean, Y/N."
"What do you mean?" You challenged him with a whisper.
"You stopped responding, I thought we could've you know…"
"Could've what?"
"Like hung out, just the two of us..." He kept looking down at you.
He noticed the way you stiffened up as he burned you with his words. Talking to you always came so easily; he didn't know what he had done to ruin it.
"You seemed busy." You responded shortly. A part of you regretted ignoring him for those months, but you couldn't undo it.
Kai didn't remember mentioning being busy to you. Before college, everyone promised to make time to see each other. The two of you had a private pinky promise not to lose contact because of college. He didn't understand what you were talking about.
He watched you, the way you closed yourself off. "Did I do something?"
"No, you didn't do anything." You run your hand through your hair. Something you always did when you were stressed out. You hesitated in choosing your next words. "All I know is it's too late. I was too late."
"N/N, what are you talking about?" Kai watched you stress out over your own thoughts; he was too afraid to even touch you. He didn't want you to snap at him. "Too late to what?"
"I was scared to tell you how I truly felt, and now you have Skylor." You started to speak with regret. "And I don't want to mess that up for you."
Kai was lost on how this related to Skylor; he didn't know that you two knew of each other. In fact, he was confused about why that was relevant to you being scared and ghosting him for two whole months.
He thought you were just overwhelmed with your new college life. Now knowing it was about him, it broke him. Kai hated it when you were upset; it killed him to see you like that.
"You won't mess anything up, just tell me what you're thinking about…"
"I love you, Kai. I was too late to say it before. I really don't want to mess up your relationship with Skylor, so I didn't tell you." You confessed, but were cut off by him.
"I'm not with Skylor. I was never with her like that." He said, relaxing his furrowed eyebrows at hearing your confession of love.
"Then..." your thoughts trailed off, confused, and took in the words he was actually saying. "What?"
"Y/N, I've only ever loved you." He smiled, reassuringly.
Before you could fully process the words coming out of his mouth and freak out, he leans in to kiss you. The kiss was sweet and soft. It was a gentle kiss.
Once he broke away, you looked up at him, and his hand was on your face. He scanned your face for discomfort or regret. You just wanted more of him.
"Really?" You tested the waters, and your hands travelled to his neck.
"Yes." He nodded. "I love you, N/N."
You pulled him down for a deeper and more intimate kiss. His hands move down towards your waist to pull you closer. You didn't mention it at first, but he was hard. Your chest was against his, and you could feel him against you. You wondered if he could feel your heartbeat quicken just by the proximity. He couldn't think straight and was intoxicated by your touch.
This was everything you've dreamed of, besides the smell of cleaning supplies. Neither of you cared about that, only focusing on the smell and touch of each other. You melted right into his touch.
His lips were made for you to kiss. Your hands found their way under his shirt, and he gasped against your lips at the new feeling. His hands were in your hair. You explored more, finding your hands tangled in his hair to tracing a path down his body. You two break away to catch your breath.
"N/N, you have no idea what you do to me," he whispered into your ear.
He plants kisses down your neck, trying to find a sensitive spot. You tugged at his hair, softly. Kai loved it; he loved it when you pulled his hair. His quiet noises against your neck immediately gave it away. He found a sweet spot and left a tiny red mark there.
"I think I know," Then you pulled him back in for a long, passionate kiss.
Your hands wandered lower, seemingly to test him. You found yourself gently gracing the surface of his hard-on. He makes another small noise against your lips.
At that moment, the timer goes off, and someone knocks loudly on the door. If the timer didn't go off, the two of you could've gone on longer. Thoughts of more rushed through your head once you came back to reality. Both of you stopped, and he straightened up.
"Too bad, time's up." You attempted to fix your appearance and could only imagine how flustered you looked.
"We'll have to continue later," He fixed his hair. "You still owe me for ghosting me."
In response, you hummed while opening the door. Once you stepped out, the air was colder and felt lonely without his presence. You sat back down and pretended to care about the rest of the game. Nya whispered a question in your ear about how the round went.
"I'll tell you more later," you replied, leaving her hanging. You two had been friends for years, and she knew about your love for her brother. For years, Nya supported you two, but nothing ever happened. You watched as Kai excused himself to head to the bathroom.
"You better." She giggled.

Hope you guys enjoyed!
This was my first time writing intimate scenes, but I have a part 2 planned out.
I’m currently working on a request, this second chapter and also so I’ll wait for you.
Once the sun beamed through your curtains, you got ready for the day ahead and headed to breakfast. Since you gained immunity from the previous challenge, you were given a day off and granted immediate advancement to the second day. The dining area smelled of fresh butter, pancakes, and syrup. Even with no scheduled matches, you still went to breakfast dressed for the day. You smiled the second you saw Skylor, and you both got in line.
She was speaking about strategies for winning that she had learned over the year. You noticed that the elderly man who was on the boat was still here. The thought of the boat reminded you of why you were there. There was still no information on your parents or power. You were running out of time. The second Skylor was done with her advice. You asked about him.
"Do you know that man?" You looked over to him.
"Apparently, he was one of my father's pupils a very long time ago." She smiled. "Why?"
"Just curious. I thought he was competing." You joked.
She laughed and continued to talk about various things. While standing in line, you overheard those loud ninjas speaking about their grudges. The one in blue and the one in black were the ones arguing the most out of the team. "Yikes, one of them stole the other's girlfriend."
Suddenly, the two ninjas, who were fighting over their own grievances for each other, spilled their biscuits and juice onto the floor. It reminded you of your time working at the restaurant, having to deal with messy customers. You looked away from the scene and pretended to mind your own business. Eventually, you and Skylor made your way to get food. Before you could get a table, Master Chen's voice was heard over the loudspeaker. Everyone in the room froze in excitement and awaited what Chen would say next.
"The tournament of elements continues! Will the following masters please make their way to their assigned arenas?"
He paused before announcing the masters. Even though you were not competing, you were still on edge for Skylor. You glanced over at her, and she did not seem to mind the competition at all; she seemed more than happy to compete.
"Speed, Gravity, Smoke, Nature, Mind, and last but hopefully not least," he paused again for the anticipation.
"Fire." You looked over to Kai as his jaw dropped.
The ninja clearly hoped they would all have gotten the day off, but one of them did not seem as lucky as the rest. You saw how all his friends gasped in shock.
"Remember, only one can remain."
After breakfast, you went out to watch the matches. Each match was on a different playing field with varying terrain.
The first match out of the three was Speed vs. Gravity. You weren't given any time to learn any of the other competitors' names yet, but that was on your to-do list.
You had gotten to the match just as it was about to start. Skylor waved you over, and you had to climb past Chamille and Tox. "Just my luck," you thought while smiling, and politely said excuse me as you passed the two girls.
"Turner, master of speed, vs Gravis, master of gravity. Fight!" Chen commenced the match to start. The two started at the base of the tree and started to search for the blade.
In the bleachers, you and Skylor watched as the fight started. There was a level of amped energy from the crowd. It was the first one-on-one fight of the entire competition; you got lucky and didn't have to be in it. For the rest of the day, you spent every match analyzing each fight from the sidelines.
The jade blade was hidden at the top of the cherry blossom tree, covered by branches and hidden by flowers. With your view in the audience, you couldn't see it. Gravis used his powers to fly through the pink-petaled tree. Turner used his powers to climb through the tree's branches hastily.
"Go for it, Griffin!!" one of his friends cheered. You assumed they were talking about Turner.
"You got this, Gravis!!"
The pink cherry blossoms blocked most of the fight, but at some points, you would get glimpses of the two searching for the jade blade.
There wasn't much that the audience could see due to the flowers, but it seemed like Gravis used his power to make the jade blade float to him. Quickly, Griffin sprinted faster than a blink and grabbed the blade from the air. Griffin was declared the winner.
The second match of the afternoon was Mind vs Nature. The sun was about finished, and the cool air was felt throughout the other contestants.
"Neuro, master of mind, vs Bolobo, master of nature. Fight!" Chen commenced the second match to start. Instead of fighting, Neuro paused and closed his eyes to predict what Bolobo was thinking about doing.
"They call this a fight?" the blonde-headed green ninja scoffed loudly.
"Wait for it," the elder man said.
After reading his mind, Neuro jumped up really high to avoid Bolobo's vines and used them to get closer to the jade blade. Bolobo trapped him in his vines. He used his vines to try to grab the jade blade, but Neuro used his power to mess up Bolobo's thoughts.
Neuro used this to his advantage and got the jade blade. He climbed up the vines on the rocks and made it to the top. The blade was pulled out of the rock by Neuro, making him the victor.
He was declared the winner, and Bolobo was dropped through the ground.
Before the final match of the first bracket, there was about an hour break period, so you headed to your room to grab a hoodie to fight the cool night breeze. As you headed up to your room, you saw Kai leaving his own room. This was the first time you'd really seen him without other ninja friends. He caught your eye and looked away. You continued walking to your room, but just as he was about to head to the same stairs that you came from, you said something to him.
"Good luck on your match," You called out.
He paused in his tracks, turning back towards you. He didn't expect one of his competitors to be wishing him luck. It was completely out of the ordinary to hear.
"Thanks, um…" He returned the smile and fully faced you. "I don't think I know your name yet."
"It's Y/N."
"I like your name, Y/N. I'm Kai, Kai Smith," he said, taking his time admiring you and trying to remember where he had heard your name from.
"I've heard," you watch him closely.
"You've heard? Are you like a fan?" he asks, furrowing his eyebrows and crossing his arms.
"No." You reassured him defensively and quickly, making his smile return, and his arms drop back to his sides. "I just overheard your name on the boat, after you know, the fight and stuff-"
"Wait, I'm sorry." He interrupted you and then apologized. "Are you the girl who got a bye for this round?"
"How'd you know that?" You asked, confused.
Basically, confirming you were the girl he was thinking of. Being the only one getting a pass probably showed some form of talent. You had no idea that anyone else knew about that. It's not like it was announced or anything. Rumors and news spread fast. You assumed nothing on this island was a secret. "So much for staying low."
"I've heard," he smirked again, repeating your own words from earlier.
For a few milliseconds, you felt as if he were trying to dissect every part of you just by looking at you. For another second, the two of you forgot about your own goals during this tournament and your other competitors. He completely forgot he was only a short 45 minutes away from his first real match, but it was as if the whole world around you and Kai stopped for you to talk.
With no words to say, you try to read his mind through his eyes. It was a look of unadulterated interest and curiosity. He hid the curiosity in his eyes and refused to dwell on it for too long.
A tiny part of you that you had previously brushed off wanted to know more about him. Now that he was in front of you, it drew you into wondering more about him.
"Kai!! You coming?" You heard someone from the first floor yell up, snapping you out of your thoughts.
You glance over the gold railings and saw the other ninja on his team and their mentor waiting for him. He already had his place in life right in front of him. They seemed like his family waiting for him.
"I should get ready for my match." He blinked out of his thoughts, too.
"Yeah, of course."
"It's nice to meet you, Y/N." He grinned.
The way your name rolled so easily off his tongue felt like honey. He made it seem like everything was so easy to him.
"You too, and good luck again." You smiled again and watched him scramble down the stairs.
"Thank you," he said, jogging down the stairs.
He quickly looked back with a smile and waved goodbye. His friends looked up at you briefly. For the rest of the night, Kai could only think about one thing: you. Only you. Even with his match only being in a few minutes, your words of encouragement stuck in his brain, and it felt like your words clawed their way through the grooves, sinking deeper.
As he was prepping for the match, his friends were all giving him a pep talk. Once the pep talk was over, they headed to the bleachers to watch the fight. He noticed you in the crowded bleachers alongside Skylor. You didn't notice his quiet gaze on you.
The final match of the night was Fire vs Smoke.
"Kai, master of fire, vs Ash, master of smoke. Fight!" Chen commenced the last match to start.
The jade blade lay in the middle of a bridge that was hovering over lava. You were no longer affected by the cold night breeze because of the hoodie you grabbed from your room and the lava that was in front of everyone.
Kai sprints towards the blade, but Ash shakes the bridge, knocking down the blade and causing Kai to lose his balance. Everyone in the crowd watched as the blade fell and Kai dangled from the side of the bridge.
The blade lands perfectly, wedged into a stone pillar.
"Come on, Kai, you can do it," the green ninja says.
Ash and Kai race to the blade below them. Ash runs on the bridge while Kai uses the boards as monkey bars. Kai uses the momentum to launch himself into the air and tries kicking Ash. Unfortunately, he uses his power, and Kai fades through the smoke, sliding behind him.
Ash sends waves of smoke at Kai to knock him farther, but it gets sent away. Kai attempts the same attack as before and jumps through him, landing on his back. With no way to hit him, Ash was untouchable.
Kai tries to land at least one punch on him, but it is of no use. Ash repeated the pattern of faze and hit. His last punch was hard enough that it threw Kai back into the bridge, causing it to split down the middle. Barely hanging onto anything, Kai was above lava.
The crowd, mostly Chen and his goons, cheered for the drama. Skylor gasped along with the other ninjas. You just watched it and believed he knew what he was doing. Chen would stop the fight if something went wrong… right?
Still barely holding on, Kai dodges smoke balls and swings himself up into the air, doing some spinning move. Bright orange and red fire erupts from his spinning move, pushing Ash back. Neither of them was going for the blade, yet.
"Come on, Kai. Use your power." the green ninja stressed.
Kai uses his power over and over again, but Ash just turns his whole body into smoke. Ash jumps over to Kai's side of the bridge and holds him. Kai uses his fire to burn the opposing side of the bridge. The bridge fully falls, and Kai jumps to the rock pillars. Ash follows.
They both land on separate platforms. With a glance, they both jump to the blade and attack each other. Both of them were in the air, throwing punches and landing on different rock pillars. They both look at the blade with hand eachother back.
Ash turns to smoke again and leaps backward towards the blade. Kai smirks and throws a flame at him, which Ash turns to smoke. Simultaneously, Kai jumps through Ash and grabs the blade in victory.
"Winner!" The audience cheered. He held the blade up with a proud smile. You saw him looking for something for a quick moment, but then went back to being proud.
After that match, you were glad you got immunity for the first round, because they all looked so intense. You headed up to your room and prepared for the last matches of the night. From what Skyler said, there were going to be more matches.
As you began heading up the stairs, you heard a voice call from farther down at the bottom of the stairs.
"Y/n!" You turned around, and it was Kai.
You smiled as he caught up to you. "Hey."
"I was just heading up to my room." He panted from running up the stairs.
"Me too, I watched your match." The two of you walked together with a smile. "It was pretty cool."
"Are you saying I'm cool?" The corners of his mouth lifted higher as you both reached the top of the stairs.
"You wish," you laughed softly.
You two went your separate ways to your rooms. There was a dying silence in that hallway. He felt empty like the competition was no longer important to him.
"Maybe I do," He thought, silently watching you go to your room.
Skylor came up the stairs and saw him watching you. He liked how sincere you were and how different your presence was compared to the other people in the competition. She coughed and made her presence known.
"You know, staring isn't going to get you anywhere, right?" She leaned on the gold railing.
"What!? No, me? I'm not staring." He jumped a bit and whipped around.
"Right, whatever you say."
There was a small gap of empty silence. Skylor was thinking hard and tried to read Kai's intentions. They stood there for a moment.
"I'm warning you, don't mess with her," Skylor said, choosing her words carefully and breaking the silence.
Kai was confused. What did she mean? You were nice, and he assumed the two of you were close because he saw you sleeping in her room the night before. Or at least assumed it was you. Why would she say that? Was this competition that serious? A million questions ran through his mind, but he picked one to ask.
"What do you mean?" He narrowed his eyes.
"Look, I know you and your ninja friends have an alliance." She started.
"What does that have anything to do with this?" he cut her off.
"I don't want that to hurt or mess with her odds of winning," Skylor said straightly.
"What? I wouldn't; that's not my intention."
"No, I know, hear me out," she paused. "I want her to win, and if people see you talking with her, they aren't going to like that."
"And you don't want to win?" He tilted his head, interested.
"Winning doesn't interest me."
"Then what does?"
"Maybe I'm still figuring that out, but that's none of your business," she shrugged. "What about you?"
"Me?"
"Yeah, what do you want from this competition?"
"To win, obviously."
"Oh come on, that's boring, everyone does," she laughed. "There has to be something else you want here."
He thought for a second. There was no way he was going to spill the real reason and expose him and the ninja. For once, he decided to keep his mouth shut. "Nah, just to win."
"Mhm…" she nodded.
"Well, great chat. I should probably rest before tomorrow." He quickly said so he wouldn't dig himself into a bigger hole.
"Don't forget about what I said." She said in a serious tone
"I got it." He said shortly and left.
It was already 8:30 pm, and the day two bracket was on the board. But before going down, you updated your parents on how everything was going. They texted immediately and said they missed you. You didn't want them to know that you were still lacking answers.
Eventually, you left your room and headed down to see who would be put into matches. There was an unhappy crowd surrounding the board; it was only the ninja crowd. They seemed unhappy about the fact that they were now going up against each other.
Once they cleared out, you got to see who you'd be against. The board was shiny gold and had all the current players' faces. Since you got immunity, you did not think your face would be on the board; it was. You would be against the master of light, the invisible guy. Great, you thought you got out of it, and also didn't even know who they were.
You went to your room to mentally prepare yourself for your match the next morning. The immunity thing confused you; Chen said you'd be moved onto the next round, but now you were entered into this new round of matches.
Did he lie or did you misunderstand?
There was a good few hours to spare before the next day of matches, and you went out on your balcony. Murmuring voices echoed and came straight from the garden.
The voices you had noticed were from the ninja and Neuro. You ducked so they wouldn't and couldn't see you eavesdropping. Neuro seemed to have sensed the ninja's presence; you couldn't exactly hear what they were saying until the green one started.
"If you want what's best for you, just look into my head, and you'll see what this tournament is all about," the green one says.
Neuro listened and seemed to see something unsettling. "It's only a matter of time before Chen-" His voice gets muffled from his two friends fighting.
What was Chen up to? What could Neuro have seen in the green ninja's head? You left your thoughts on the balcony and headed to sleep. Going to sleep with adrenaline was horrible. There was no time to dwell on it.
In the morning, you headed to the room where the match would be held. Down another hallway, you saw Kai, the green one, and their mentor. You wondered where the blue-and-black ninja were. You were told to wait outside the room due to them still setting it up. As you were waiting, a familiar red-suited figure came down the hallway.
"I wanted to come over and share some luck." He flashed a bright grin.
"Thanks." You said quietly.
"You ready?" He saw the scared look on your face.
You picked at your nail. "Hopefully."
"Look, I know we just met, but I know you'll do amazing out there." He spoke sincerely.
There was no reason for him to be so sincere or even kind to you. He was speaking from his heart. You felt unsure of whether you could trust him or not. Maybe it would be a good thing.
"You think so, or are you just saying that?" You laughed a bit.
"I feel it." He dramatically held his hand over his chest.
"Thanks." You smiled, and your nerves melted away for a few moments.
"Also, I heard you were against the master of light."
"Yeah. Why?" You asked hesitantly and froze. "Any secret details I should know?"
"I brought these for you." He reached into his gi pocket and grabbed a pair of black-framed sunglasses. There was tiny scuff marks on the sides. They were visibly used, and his own personal pair.
"I can't take these, isn't that cheating?"
"There are no rules to fashion, angel" He winked and handed them off to you. "And, this is far from cheating."
"Ms. L/N, they are ready for you." One of Chen's pretty kabuki held the door open for you.
"You'll do great." He said, leaning on the wall, holding up his thumbs before watching you get rushed into the room. He called you an angel? Kai heads to the viewing bleachers and sits with his assumed mentor and green ninja.
There was no time to waste; you were escorted into the room with the sunglasses in your hand. The room was extra bright with mirrors surrounding it. The lights were pointed directly at the mirrors and on you and your opponent. In the middle of the room was a sculpture made of marble and gold. It was of an angel, holding the jade blade high above your heads. The angel sculpture looked like it was made to be destroyed.
You immediately put on the sunglasses and saw your opponent standing across from you on the other side of the sculpture. With a glance, you saw Kai in the bleachers and Skylor on the other side. Before the match started, your adrenaline levels were going crazy, and you tried to focus. You tried to think about what this invisible guy's weaknesses could be.
While using your eyes, you looked around the room for the blade. That room was still blinding, but the sunglasses were helpful. You noticed that your opponent had the same idea with the sunglasses; maybe it helps him see better too.
"L/N, master of peace, vs Mr. Pale, master of light. Fight!"
So that's what your element was called? Peace…
You didn't think about it for long and ran to the blade in the middle of the room. Looking up, you barely climbed the sculpture, and you felt Mr. Pale grab your arm to yank you off. He held his other hand out in front of your face. You accidentally looked into his hand as he used his power to create light to blind you. It happened so fast you couldn't think about ways to avoid it.
You stumbled back and closed your eyes fast, but not fast enough.
The glasses were protecting you, but couldn't protect you from everything.
It took a few more moments and blinks to readjust your eyesight.
That was when a plan formed in your mind. Break his glasses. Since he was invisible, you assumed he couldn't see clearly either, due to the lack of light going into his eyes. His gold glasses were vision enhancers for people with no physical eyeballs… probably…
He strikes you without hesitation, and you barely have time to block it. You kick him back and try to catch him off guard. He regains his balance.
You closed the gap. Trying to create a distraction, you go to punch his stomach, but use your other hand to grab the glasses. He immediately reached for his stomach to block it, and you took the opportunity to reach for his glasses. You grabbed them and planned to throw them at one of the mirror-covered walls.
It seemed to have worked for a second, and he kept barely missing his attacks.
As you threw it, he grabbed your wrist once he heard you. His glasses that you threw didn't break, but it got out of the way. With a tight grip and a quick attack, he swept your legs from under you and tackled you to the ground, knocking the air from your lungs. You saw stars from the rough fall onto your head. You could've sworn you heard gasps of excitement in the crowd the second you hit the ground. He let go and went to find the blade. Using his hands to find the statue with the blade. With a groan, you blinked the pain away.
The cheering from the crowd faded out of your ears. You needed to get up and get that blade.
As you got up, you focused hard on him and tried to trigger your powers. Mr. Pale gasped in pain and held a tight grip on the statue. Was that your doing?
He made the statue fall down, making the marble and gold pieces fall apart. The crowd exploded with energy. He collapsed over the broken pieces. You felt a pang of worry at the second sight of pain that you caused. First with Tox, and now Mr. Pale; neither of them seemed alright after you used your element. Guilt flowed through your veins.
The blade- you just needed the blade. The pain from before had already faded away, and you saw the jade underneath some broken pieces. It was closer to you, so you rushed over to that pile.
Your opponent, Mr. Pale, must have heard the sound of you. He barely used his powers and pointed them at the mirror in front of you; it was angled perfectly so the light went straight into your eyes. His light was strong. You felt more anger rush through your body, not because of him but due to the room you were competing in.
You closed your eyes and felt for the blade. Once your eyes were alright, you opened them again, only to see him also looking for the blade. You quickly found the jade blade under some pieces. Still under the more intense effects of your power, he slowly crawls to where the blade was. You reached to grab it as he does the same.
By only a few milliseconds, you grab the blade and win the match.
You held the blade up with your head low. Your powers relaxed.
"Winner!" Chen announces. The crowd cheered for you, or maybe just the entertainment. You didn't even bother to look into the crowd and kept your head low in shame. This wasn't a victory, at least not in your eyes.
Immediately after he declared you the winner, you dropped the blade into the rubble and rushed over to Mr. Pale, picking up his glasses. He didn't seem like he was okay; he looked like he could barely stand up. You put Kai's glasses on your head to get a good look at Mr. Pale. He was invisible; there was nothing to see on his face. His posture was bad, slouched and withered.
You go over to help him up, holding him up, and even offer to use your powers to heal him.
He adjusted his glasses.
"I don't need your pity." He snapped and pushed your assisting hands off of him.
"I'm sorry." You say sincerely, backing away, but are cut off by Chen making him fall through the floorboards.
The crowd's cheers continue to echo in the room. Even with the cheers, there was an empty feeling that the match had left you with. You gaze up at them, Chen and Clouse. Clouse had his arms crossed; you couldn't tell what he was thinking while Chen was laughing about sending another competitor away into the abyss.
Instead of celebrating, you walked out of the exact door you entered from. You had already secured your spot for the next round. There was no point in rubbing in your victory.
The following round was the blue ninja and the black ninja; it was another outside match. It was still early in the morning, and the sun was still rising. You were one of the first people to be seated in the bleachers and wait for the match to start. Surprisingly, the arena was huge; you would not have wanted to be in this match.
The two opponents were held in caged spaces like animals. Kai and his green friend were down in the arena coaching them. You spotted Neuro speaking to the ninja. They all seemed to be having a tense conversation. Soon after, the ninja plus Neuro, who were not competing in that round, came back up to the bleachers. Skylor was mentally preparing for her round, so you did not want to bother her.
"Let the tournament continue!" Chen announces.
"Jay, master of lightning, vs Cole, master of earth. Fight!" The cages were opened, and the spotlight shone on them. You took a mental note and tried to remember their names.
They immediately started fighting; flashes of lightning lit up the arena. Cole jumped over the beams of lightning and used his powers to attack Jay, which made him do a backflip. The audience couldn't hear anything they were saying down there. They went back and forth with their elements, and Chen was getting giddy.
They both used their elements against each other, meeting in the middle. Rock and lightning struck each other. Buzzing and crackling rang through the arena. They pushed back and forth until Cole ultimately took over.
Jay was hit with the rock and was pushed backwards. He got up from the ground and summoned lightning in his hands. There was a gap between fighting; they seemed to be talking to each other.
A second later, they started to fight again and get into action. It wasn't as aggressive as before; actually, it seemed like they were play-fighting. Chen, holding his popcorn, got upset about the change in action.
"What is this patty cake?? I'm bored, release the contracts," Chen declared.
The doors opened, releasing about five cars with sharp propellers on the top. Jay and Cole did their spinning tornado move and dodged the car speeding towards them. That car kept driving straight into a wall, launching the driver into the wall.
"They fight together. Good work, son." The elder man spoke from next to you.
So they were related, and the green one was his son. Like Skylor and Chen.
"Yeah, I do listen to you every once in a while." He smiled.
Focusing back onto the match, you watched it play out. Cole used his powers to make a ramp for the car heading towards him and grabbed the tail of the car to swing it around into one of the last cars.
There was only one car left, heading straight to Cole. Jay jumped on top of the car and electrocuted the driver with a skull mask. The car barely stopped in front of Cole. After stopping the car, Jay jumped out and dapped up Cole.
"I know what you are trying to do. Neither of you will win, then BOTH of you will lose." Chen pressed a button, triggering the tiles below them to fall one at a time.
There was no time to decide who gets the blade. If neither of them won, that would worsen their chances of continuing as a team. Cole and Jay jumped to still existing tiles, but Chen kept pressing more buttons. They seemed to be deciding who would continue the tournament. There was no way both of them could win.
Cole advanced and climbed the pole for the jade blade. Grabbing it from the pole, he paused, thinking of another way. Cole threw the blade down to Jay. The audience gasped; Jay won and would be the one to move on. He jumped down from the pole and spoke to Jay. The selfless actions of Cole were not enough to let him stay, and Chen pushed the button to make him fall into the abyss.
Their sensei made it into a lesson for them to stick together through thick and thin. There were still many more fights to come in this competition. You were worried about what the next challenge would be, but couldn't focus on that; you had to be supportive of Skylor.
Skylor's round was next. Her round was in a completely different room inside the building. As you walked through the narrow hallways, you bumped into Kai, his sensei, a blue and green ninja, as you were turning the corner.
Kai greeted you and acknowledged your presence. He went on about your match and complimented your talents. You were about to thank Kai for the glasses, but you heard another voice behind you.
"Y/n!" It was Sky. She walked over next to you and saw Kai and the other two.
You smiled at her as she stared at Kai.
"Uh… thanks for the glasses." You took them out of your pocket and gave them back to him. A part of you expected him to say something, but he didn't. Saying nothing, he took the glasses back and left with a quiet good luck to Skylor. It was stiff and emotionless.
It was definitely a change in emotions. Had something happened in private?
"I don't trust them." She said quickly as you two headed to her match.
"Who?" You hummed carefully.
"The ninja."
"Why? They seem genuinely good people." There was no reason for you to be against the ninja; most of them seemed kind. It would be a smart move to keep them on your side.
"My father hates them." She whispered, peeking to see if anyone was in earshot.
"Chen?" You asked.
"Y/N, you can't tell anyone I'm related to him." She shushed you gently.
"Ok, but why?" In truth, Skylor had not been honest with you. You had no idea why she was keeping secrets. "Sky, why do I feel like you are hiding things from me?" You kept a hush voice.
"I'll explain later," she said as the skull servant waved her into the room.
"Okay, you got this." You smiled as she was taken to the match arena. Then you headed to the second floor to watch her match. You sat down next to a few other people you didn't know well. She was against the master of sound.
As everyone is getting off the boat. Once your shoes hit the soft sand, Skylor pulls you aside, possibly to apologize for her confusing behavior. The two of you stood in the sand as the other contestants passed by. She had a quiet look on her face that did not explain what she could be thinking. As the last people shuffle by, she looks up from the sand to you.
“Y/N, can we speak?” She asks quietly but urgently.
“Is this about the thing from earlier?” You asked more, relaxed in contrast to the way you felt the last time the two of you talked. “It’s fine, you were just looking out for me.”
“No, I shouldn’t have stopped you. You had every right to fight that asshole,” She admitted softly, earning a chuckle from you.
The two of you walk to the temple together. Unlike Skylor, this place was completely unfamiliar to you. It felt like stepping into another world not made for you. As you open your mouth to respond, Kai holds his friends back to space for the two of you to walk ahead. He wore a sweet smile that was boldly displayed on his face. A one look that was entirely different from the look he wore during the fight on the boat.
“Ladies first,” he says, grinning at Skylor. You watched his eyes linger on Skylor as you both turned to walk away.
All the elemental masters were gathered into a circular room. One of Chen's servants takes your bags to another room. A golden snake was embedded in the center of the carpet floor. Rows of purple and red wood covered the walls, making up the structure. With admiration, your eyes took in the beauty of the building. The transition from living in a small village to stepping into a private temple was mind-altering. The tiny gold details of the place were remarkable, casually flaunting Master Chen's wealth. "Skylor grew up like this?" All the other contestants sat down as you and Skylor sat across from each other.
The gong's smash rang and echoed through the room, drawing all the contestants' attention.
“All rise for Master Chen,” Clouse instructed. Classical music started playing, as Clouse drew everyone’s attention to look up.
Master Chen and his throne came down, seemingly from the sky. His dramatic entrance finished, and he got ready to speak.
“Welcome to the Tournament of Elements.”
As everyone stood up, Master Chen continued to speak. "Now you may all di-" The doors everyone had entered through abruptly slammed closed. Everyone looked at the exit with a gasp.
"Direct your attention to me," Chen giggled playfully.
All the elemental masters sat back down. There was already fear surrounding the idea of joining a magic power tournament, but now it was worsening. “What did I sign up for…" You look over at Skylor, then back at Chen.
"Never before have this many elemental fighters been under one roof." He walked down from his podium to speak to the elemental masters personally.
"I see master of Fire, Earth, Shadow, Speed, and even the prophesied Green Savior." He looked around the room meticulously. "And a former pupil has returned."
"This symbol before you is for the Anacondrai, fiercest serpentine warrior to roam this land. It's creed only one can remain." A bracket of all the opponents' faces opened, revealing them to everyone.
"Behold, a jade blade! Here, it represents life. Obtain and move on. Allow your opponent to take it and be a loser." He starts walking around the circle of elemental masters. "The rules are simple. Every match will be different, no two fights will be the same."
The stakes were high. Being surrounded by your opponents reminded you to take the games seriously. You reminded yourself that everyone still in that room was here fighting for something. They all had a determined expression, with a look of pride at having their powers.
"Your powers will keep you in the tournament, use it or lose it," he continued with his speech.
"What does Karlof win?" Karlof spoke.
"Win and stay on the island. Win it all, and you'll receive fortunes beyond your wildest dreams and… a lifetime supply of Master Chen's noodles."
"But no one is here for the noodles. You want the glory of being the greatest fighter in all of Ninjago." Chen smirks, earning a short applause.
"And what happens if they lose?" The ninja's mentor asks.
"Lose? Who here likes to lose?" Chen turns the questions to the others, earning laughs from everyone.
"Now, please enjoy my island, it's a super fun, happy place!" Chen giggles. "Fun time on me!"
"Now you will each be shown to your rooms," Clouse says and opens the door to Chen's Kabuki.
All the beautiful women come down in a line to escort us to our rooms. One in purple takes your hand and guides you to your suite. You end up on the second floor and enter your room. The suite was huge, filled with neutral colors like black, white, brown, and gold. It felt like walking into a luxury hotel room, but it was all for you.
"Your own personal suite, Ms. L/N," the woman smiled and closed the door, leaving you alone before you could thank her.
You notice your bags perfectly placed on top of your bed, along with a purple box and a golden bow. With a hum, you pick up the envelope that has the same snake embellishment as the invitation. The letter was clearly from Chen and Clouse. The letter was sweet, and after reading it, you placed it down to pick up the box to open it. Within the box was your phone with all of your saved contacts and everything else that you had before. It was a surprise that Clouse would actually keep his promise. The phone felt like it never even touched the water.
Opening the phone to immediately call your parents. They quickly picked up and spoke with millions of emotions running. You felt bombarded with lectures on school and stupid lessons. Eventually, they understood that you were growing up and wanted to learn more about yourself. They warned you to be careful and not to trust everyone nice.
"Y/N, this won't go unpunished when you get home, but just don't do anything even more reckless."
"Ok, Dad. I promise I'll be safe and I'll keep you guys updated the whole time."
They left you and wished you luck. Hopefully, they will understand your choices someday instead of pretending they understand. At least they were supportive, in a way.
You walk around and explore your own room, where you will be spending most of your stay. Obviously, assuming you don't get booted off the island during the very first round. There seemed to be aspects of the room that could be related to your powers. On the wall hung a painted portrait of your hometown, which creeped you out because you'd never met these people. Before you could even get a look at the painting, Chen's voice blasted on speakers throughout the building.
"Fellow fighters, hidden around my island is enough jade blades for every participant except for one."
You peek out of your door and see the other contestants who were ready for a fight. Before they could spot you or a blade, you closed the door. "The one who returns empty-handed loses!"
"The tournament begins NOW!!" He shouted over the speaker, and it suddenly got louder outside.
You ignore the commotion and briefly look around your room for a jade blade, but there is nothing. In a quick, quiet way, you sneak out of your suite to find one. As you are just out of your room, you are pushed back into your room by a girl with neon green hair and another with purple hair. They crash into you and push you into the ground, knocking the air out of your lungs. "Fuck." They enter your room to look for a blade. The whole floor was probably empty besides you and the two girls.
They didn't speak, focused on one single thing. On the floor, you spot a shining object attached to your bed. As they scoured the room for a blade, you quietly crawled to retrieve the blade from under your bed. You sit up to reach for the blade and unhook it from the bed. The girl with neon green hair notices you reaching for the blade and shouts to the purple-haired girl who was many feet away from you—quickly scrambling to your feet with the blade, revealing yourself and the blade.
"Hey, she has a blade!" the neon-haired girl launches herself over your bed towards the door.
"Tox, I told you there was one here!" The purple one lunged at you from across the room.
Fight or flight was kicking in. Your first instinct was to run, but they were ready for a fight. The decision was made. The green-haired girl closed the door, and you were now holding the blade. The blade was sharp, so you held it out with two hands and a tight grip to defend yourself.
"I don't think we've met you yet... I'm Chamille." The purple girl spoke and circled you.
"You're that new elemental master everyone was talking about, right?" Tox examined you. "You're cute."
"Thanks, but flattery won't get this blade." You slowly walk backwards to the door.
"Then you're not going anywhere." Tox smiled politely and used her power to create a thick cloud of neon green.
Chamille covered her mouth with the mask that Tox gave her and watched. The green cloud warped around you. You instinctively but poorly covered your mouth and nose with your arm and waited for something to happen. Seconds passed, and nothing happened. You felt the same, and maybe even a bit better.
"Why are you not affected?" She attacked you once the cloud was clearing up.
"She's immune," Chamille spoke into the mask.
"How are you immune!?" Tox stood her ground and started going for the blade.
"I don't know?!" Your grip tightened on the blade, and you backed away from her punches. She backed you up into your door.
"I need that blade." She recklessly reached for the blade. You pushed her away from you, creating space, and reached for the door handle.
Chamille morphs into Karloff and tries to punch your stomach to make you drop the blade, but you quickly move. She barely misses, and you are now farther away from the door. The metal gloves seemed too heavy, and she morphs into herself again.
"Chamille!" Tox yelled, "Don't waste time, I'll get her blade, and we'll find another!"
As she said that, Chamille nodded and left the room. Leaving only you and Tox. Tox blocked the door and eyed the jade blade in your grasp. The second you started to look for an exit, she went straight for the blade. You held out your empty hand, hoping your powers would do something to stop this. Acting on pure adrenaline, you somehow use your powers to defend yourself. Tox pauses her attack suddenly and clutches her body.
"You're not getting this blade." You stayed grounded.
"What are you doing to me?" Her eyes trailed to you with fear, and she held her stomach. With her energy being drained, she felt too drained to speak. She collapses to her knees.
"Are you okay?" You panicked and knelt next to her. Her eyes were barely open and half-lidded, but she was breathing… heavily.
Stuck in fear of what you did, you didn't help her, only reaching for the doorknob and fleeing the scene with the blade. You had already stopped using your powers, but she left feeling dazed. A pit in your stomach made you want to check on her, but you were already out the door and running to Chen's throne room. There was so much commotion in the whole building that you quickly ran to the room along the walls.
You got to the throne room, and it was empty, well, besides Clouse and Chen. There was a throne for a certain select number of blades. In silence, you walked up to it and put it on the throne. It held all but one now.
"Y/N L/N, you're the first competitor to return a jade blade."
"This means you are exempt from the next game and are granted immunity," Chen says. He signals the skull guy to take your face off the bracket that was assumed to be for the next round.
"Impressive for someone who just found out they had powers," Chen added.
"It was a challenge." You hummed dryly.
"How was it?" Chen asked from the side of his throne. "Your new powers?"
"I mean, I still don't understand how to use them. Like how I activate it when I'm not under pressure."
"That comes from training under the right mentor."
"Well, I-" you started to speak.
"You don't have a mentor." Clouse finished your thoughts. "Chen used to train me."
"So, you have elemental magic, too?"
"In a way, but Chen trained me to use it and taught me everything I know."
As Clouse was about to continue on his backstory, Skylor walked with a jade blade in her hand. She places it on the mantle and walks over to you. Clouse smiles and says he'll tell you more later—more and more elemental masters march in with a jade blade, one at a time.
The final blade was somewhere out in the building. Everyone counted the two people who were left: a winner and a loser. Kai and Karlof were the only two not in the room already. One of them had to have the blade by now. As time continued, footsteps were coming down the hallway. The figure's silhouette enters the room. Karlof's figure was revealed along with a blade.
"Karlof wins," he announces as he holds the blade up.
As he holds the blade up, Kai unscrews Karlof's iron gloves. The gloves drop the blade, and Karlof is confused. With a cunning smile, Kai grabs the blade.
"Looks like you got a screw loose." He looks back at Karlof and blasts his powers to launch himself to the throne.
Kai held the last blade and put it into the throne. His friends cheered for the victory. Then Chen speaks up, saying that Karlof was out.
"We have a loser," Chen announces.
"That's not fair, he cheated." Karlof puts on his gloves.
"I did what I had to do." Kai shrugged.
"That is not how you win." The older guy spoke.
"Fine, I lose. Karlof never wanted to be on this stinking island."
"Aw, I'm sorry you did not enjoy your stay. I guess this worked out for the best." Chen smiles and presses a button. "This is goodbye."
With the touch of a button, Karlof falls through the floorboards. The other contestants gasped and stayed in shock.
"As you can see, lose and you are out. Break any rules, you are out."
One of the skull guys takes the face of Karlof and destroys the piece. "Never bite the hand that feeds you. - Master Chen's Delicious Noodles."
"Now rest up. Tomorrow, the tournament will commence." Chen bowed, and the gong ringing signaled to everyone to exit the room. "That wasn't the first game?"
As you were leaving for the dining room, Skylor came over to you. She walked beside you with a level of confidence that you could feel. You got up to get some noodles, and Skylor did as well. The smell of home-like broth filled your nose. It was weird because the smell that had always surrounded you. After being around noodles 24/7 for your job, you picked out your favorite and ordered that. More nagging thoughts flooded your mind, like the two new enemies you made and how that was only a warm-up round. The two of you claim a booth and sit down.
"So how was it??" Skylor sipped her soup in one hand and used her chopsticks in the other.
"How was what?" You responded to her actions but focused more on your noodles.
"Your first 'trial' games, silly!!" She laughed.
"Funny, I thought it was the real stuff." You took a bite of your meal. "It was bad."
"I heard you were the first one, though. So it couldn't have been that bad." She watched you.
In the corner of your eye, you spotted Tox and Chamille eyeing you down with some other masters. You quickly looked away and focused on the words that were coming out of Sky's mouth. Tox looked scared of you in a way. Nothing could distract you from the fact that you had made one too many enemies on day zero.
"Are you even listening to me?" She glances sideways.
"Yeah, sorry. My mind is just off." You nodded. She smiles while going on about her first game and how she had "played" the Master of Fire into helping her get the blade.
"He totally fell for it; it was honestly embarrassing." She joked with no bad intentions in her voice.
You only hummed and looked at the people walking by. The Master of Fire, Kai, was one of the people who passed our table. He smiled at Skylor, but she didn't bat an eye at him. She didn't even know he was walking past, only you did. You watched him walk to his friends wearing a sad expression. Once you were finished people watching, you continued to eat your food and listened to Skylor.
"You still seem on edge," Skylor spoke.
"I'm not." You scoffed.
"You're shaking the whole table with your legs." She laughed in your face.
"Maybe, it's the games getting to me."
"If you want to take your mind off the game, you could come to my room tonight." In the way she said that, it felt like she was offering something private and intimate.
You coughed on your soup. "What?"
"No, not like that." She saw your face. "I mean, we can just hang out. A sleepover."
"I've actually never had a sleepover before.." You admitted and leaned back.
"It'll be nice, before the games begin." She smiled.
"I'd like that." You smiled back.
The two of you finished eating dinner and stacked trays. She said to come over to her room at 10:30 pm so for now you were unpacking your pajamas, tidying up your room, and washing up. In the bathroom, there was a fancy bathtub that looked like a hot tub that came straight out of a movie. After your quiet bath, you air-dried your hair and lay in bed.
It came around the time to chill out with Skylor, so you headed over to her room a bit earlier. You left your room and silently walked to Sky's room.
"L/N, you shouldn't be awake." Clouse's voice was heard from behind you. Startled, you turned around and faced him.
"Oh, hi, I know. I just-" you thought for a second. "I forgot something in Sky's room."
"Before you go, I was going to speak to you about our conversation earlier." He spoke.
"About?" You didn't remember.
"Having a mentor."
"Oh yeah. What about it?"
"Master Chen would be a great mentor for you."
"Does he know more about my powers or parents?"
"He may… or he might. You'll just have to ask him." Clouse dragged out his words.
"Fine." You sighed. "I'll talk to him." With a sigh, he allowed you to go to Skylor's room.
You walked over to her room, and she opened the door with a smile. Her room was similar in a way, but not in a lived-in way. It actually just looked like any other room in the building. You wouldn't expect her to be the daughter of the whole game maker.
"Clouse talked to you?" She asked as you sat on her bed.
"Yeah, something about training under a mentor." You said. "He said your dad was an option. Does he train you?"
"More so when I was younger, but now I want to do my own thing." She shrugged.
The two of you chatted for a bit longer. You started to feel more comfortable around her. Opening up more on the two of your lives. Skylor was pretty interesting. She said that no one else on this island knew that she was related to Chen besides the staff and you. "Maybe it's so they don't think she's cheating."
"Y/N, you never really tell me about your personal life."
"During work?"
"Yeah, I don't know anything about you," she frowned.
"Okay, then ask me something." You lie back on her bed.
"How's school going?"
"Really, that's what you want to ask?" Your eyebrows furrowed. "Also, what if I didn't go to school?"
"You bike from school for your shifts, right?" She said, and earns a hum from you.
"Yeah, school's fine." You admitted.
"Any good friends? Or boyfriends?"
You let out a laugh.
"Yeah. Wait, speaking of.. I need to text him about this." You quickly scramble to find your phone in your pockets.
'heyyy! i need you tell you something, it's crazy important'
As you were in the middle of typing your explanation of your absence, she took your phone and held you from reaching it. You leaned to reach it, but she pulled it farther away.
"N/n, you can't." She uses her other hand to lower the hand that was reaching for it.
"Come on, Sky. He's going to be concerned if I'm not at school." You reached more, but she held you back.
"Just say you're sick."
"I don't get sick, he won't believe me."
"Say it's like the plague or something.."
"Fine." You sighed, and she handed your phone back. You started typing and realized you couldn't lie. Skylor watched you from the side intently.
You sent the text, and he immediately responded.
'WHAATT!!.'
'what happened to Miss. Y/N "I don't get sick" L/N???'
'N/n, this isn't funny.'
'R u ok?' He texted sporadically.
'Im alive, so don't worry. <3'
'Ok but i'mcomingover tomorrow morning with my fresh cookies's.' seen.
"Shit, Skylor, what do I say?" You showed her your phone.
"Tell him that he can't." She shrugged, saying after reading your messages. She watches you with a close but intrigued eye. It was hard to lie to him, but Skylor was already watching the way you'll handled this, you couldn't lie.
'I love you sm but you can't' you sent.
'NOis it bad :(' my famous cookies? it must be horrible'
'very'
'very bad 😢😢'
'ok ill leave you alone, but please get rest'
'its late’
'i will'
'i pinky promise'
'kay, let me know when ur feeling better'
'duh, good night'
'good night n/n'
'love you'
'love you more <3'
You did not enjoy lying straight to his face, but you did not want to be booted off the island for a minor slip-up. That would have been embarrassing to be kicked out for telling someone you were here. Even though you did tell your parents, Clouse didn't do anything.
'alrighty but when you get better ill make my cookies for you.'
'im sorry :(' You felt bad for lying to his face.
'just rest up, it's late.'
'kayyy, good night'
'good night n/n' seen.
Time passed, and noises came from outside. You stayed on Sky's bed watching the film that she had picked, some movie called The Craft. The noises got louder, and Sky went outside to check it out and get some air. Your eyes felt heavy, but you fought to stay awake.
You paused the movie and waited for her to come back. By the time she had come back, you had already fallen asleep with your phone on. As you slept, you felt the mattress dip a bit. An hour passes, and you wake up to Skylor working out on the floor.
"Morning, sleeping beauty," She said with a smile.
"How long was I asleep?" You blinked and adjusted to the lights.
"Not even an hour." She was only in a tank top, but reached for her gi top. Once her back was turned, you got a glimpse of her purple tattoo on her back.
"Like what you see?" She felt you staring and turned over her shoulder.
"I was just-" You stuttered and looked away, flustered. "Since when did you have a tattoo?"
She was now walking over and sat with you.
"Around a month ago, it's a secret."
"What is it?" You only got a flash of purple and nothing else.
"It's a snake, the Anacondrai." She showed a peek of the purple shape etched on her back.
"It's cool." You wondered why she picked a tattoo of a Anacondrai. You knew it was a snake but what snake was called an Anacondrai?
"Do you want one? My father knows people." She winked.
"I'm good, my parents would kill me if I came back with tattoos."
The clock had struck past 1 a.m., and now you were heading back to your private suite. As you were walking to your room, you heard whispering coming from Kai's room. The whispered voices drew closer, and you quickly walked to your room. When you approached the door, they spotted you, and you hastily closed it.
In your room, you prepared yourself for the next day. Even though you wouldn't be competing, you were prepared to watch your opponents matches. Tomorrow would be day 1 of however many days of competing. All you wanted was to stay low.
Around a week ago, Skylor, your manger but close friend, had alerted everyone that a “higher up” would be stopping by for a check up. The other workers in teal thought it was weird, they say there hasn’t been a real check up in 2 years.
It was a slow night, the bell on the door rang and a strange man walked in. You were cleaning the booths and the sound of the chime made you look over to the door. Another one of your coworkers assisted the man and sat them down at a clean table.
“Ah you must be the inspector,” the waiter spoke and offered the menus like they were a normal customers.
“Clouse.” The man spoke sharply with intention and read the menus. A menu he barely skimmed through. There was an aura surrounding him, as if he wasn’t really there. That couldn’t be possible…
“Just let me know when you’re ready to order,” they smiled, with a hint of nervousness.
“I’ll just get the original fried rice” Clouse closed the menu, watching the waiter closely take down their orders.
“Alright, your food will be out in a few” they left and walked over to the kitchen.
There was something off about the man, like he was here for another reason. It was strange to have a check up on a random Thursday evening. Your shift was ending soon therefore you wanted to clean and fly under the radar.
The food was ready and was sent on a conveyor belt. A few minutes later, the waiter went over to check on them.
“How is everything?” they asked with a friendly expression.
“It’s good.” The man ate the food.
“Let me know if you need help with anything else,”
“Is there a Y/N L/N that works here?” asked Clouse, causing you to listen to the table’s conversation. He asked as if he was waiting, you slowly wiped down the table.
“Yeah.. why?” they hesitated to answer.
“May I speak with her?”
“I guess,” the waiter shrugged and walked over to you.
“Y/N, he wants to speak with you,” they pointed to the table.
“Why, what’s up?” you whispered with a hint of nerves. There was no reason for you to get fired. You were one of the hardest working employees, you always took shifts and hours when it was important. Someone with ties to the whole industry firing you would be devastating.
“No idea but I’m sure it’s nothing bad,” they smiled and patted you on the shoulder in assurance.
“Yeah, thanks” you sighed and walked over to the guy with the ponytail.
“Hello, I’m Y/N. My coworker said that you wanted to speak with me?” you smiled.
“I know, we’ve been hearing a lot about you recently, Ms. L/N” Clouse spoke and looked at you as if he knew something important about you. Knowing her full name was off putting but the conversation continued.
“All good things.. I presume,” you kept the friendly coworker persona but felt anxious under a sharp gaze. “What did he mean ‘we’”
“Yes of course, all good things. Skylor, your manager, loves the way you work so hard here,” Clouse said after a long silence. Y/N’s shoulders relaxed as his comment sounded genuine.
“She is an amazing manager.” You laughed with an awkward smile and then looked down.
“Yes, but that is not the reason we wanted to chat with you,” Clouse stopped eating his food.
You glanced back at him trying to see if you had been ignoring another person in power. “What do you mean ’we’?” you finally muster up the courage to ask.
“Master Chen, himself, and I”
You hummed and kept quiet. “Master Chen as in Chen’s Noodle House??”
”We want to personally and formally invite you to partake in the Tournament of Elements.” He pulled out an envelope with a purple wax seal with a gold snake embellishment on it.
“Tournament of what?” you took the envelope cautiously and you could’ve sworn the card glitched through his hand.
“Tournament of Elements. There’s more details in the actual invitation. Go ahead and read it,” you peeled back the wax seal and opened the envelope. The letter was written with a jet-black ink pen and cursive letters. You took your time to read through the hand written.
———
Dear Y/N L/N,
Master Chen invites you to compete in the Tournaments of Element. You may not tell anyone about this secret tournament and location, or there will be consequences. It is a private competition between Elemental Masters on a secluded island. There will be a grand prize for the winner of the tournament. If you wish to join the tournament, please meet at the Ninjago’s South Fishing dock before midnight.
Sincerely,
Master Chen.

“This is generous of you but I think you have me confused with someone else. I’m not an ‘Element Master’” you folded the paper and held it at your side.
“Our connections say otherwise,” Clouse said, finishing his rice.
“Your connections have the wrong person.” You slid the paper back to him, trying to get out of this uncomfortable conversation. You give him a polite customer service smile.
“Your parents ar- were F/N and M/N, right?” Clouse corrected himself, causing your heart to momentarily pause and smile to drop. Every nerve of your body froze and sent your senses into a deep state of confusion. Your parents had friends for sure, but they never mentioned some shady tournament.
“How did you..” your voice trailed off, shakily.
“Like I said, connections.”
“We know this is out of the blue but we don’t want a power like yours wasted and never uncovered. Just think about what your parents would want for you.” Clouse passed back the invitation along with the money for the food and tips.
“Power like mine?” Before you could ask he was already leaving and your coworker was gathering the dirty plates.
You saw he left his wallet at the table.
In a state of confusion, you hand the tip money to your coworker and follow him out the door. “Hey! You left your wallet” you jogged over to him but just as he crossed the street, he disappeared with purple smoke around him. The night breeze made him vanish, you watched some guy vanish in front of you. The wallet in your hand dusted away and left behind nothing. “Am I going crazy…” you shook your head and went back into work. “At least my shift is almost over.”
With the bill money, you head over to the cash register and put it in. “Why’d he bring up my parents?” You had never known any of her parent’s friends, let alone people connected to them. It would be dangerous to go to join a top secret competition without trusting the people there. You had no idea what you would be getting yourself into. It would be too stupid and naïve to even take the invitation.
Before you could truly comprehend everything, Skylor walked over. “Sorry about that, that was my father’s assistant.”
You snapped your head to her. “He’s real?” Skylor looked at you crazy for asking that.
“I’m not even going to ask..” she paused. “What did he need to talk to you about?” Skylor had to have known.
“I don’t really know.” you hid the envelope in your pocket. You knew you were lying to your boss but you didn't want to find out what happens if you spill anything about the tournament.
“You sure it wasn't an invitation to an element competition?” Skylor pointed at the invitation envelope sticking out of your pocket. She was smug about it and was right, was no point in hiding.
“You know about that?” Y/N hesitated.
“Well yeah, my father runs it.” Skylor seemed glad that you didn’t immediately tell the truth. The whole secret tournament thing was pretty serious in her father’s eyes.
“Oh right..” you smiled.
“Are you going to compete?” Skylor leaned on the front desk and looked at her from the other side.
“I don’t think I have an element.” You finished putting the cash in the register.
“You don’t know? Well if you were invited, you obviously do. Here, let me see something..” she held out her hand. Y/N placed her hand over Skylor’s.
“What’s this for… Is this your excuse to hold my hand?” You tilted your head to analyze her.
“No silly, my element allows me to copy other’s elements by touch.” Skylor looked at your hand intensely.
“Do you feel anything?” you asked softly.
“Yeah, I just can’t figure it out. It’s not clear..” Skylor moved her hands off of yours and looked at her own palms.
“What?” you were still left confused.
“I can feel your powers..” Skylor said calmly and walked around. She moved her arms around like she was stretching.
“You feel it?” you sat on the counter and watched Skylor.
“Yes, you have powers. When I touched you, my headache went away and shoulder pain went away.” She held her shoulder “That’s no coincidence. Maybe your power can heal people.”
“Heal? No..” you shook your head and laughed
“It’s just an idea.” She shrugged.
“If there is any advice I can give about power is..” she pointed to her own heart. “You just need to tap into it and allow it to take over,”
“Take over? But how?” you looked at your hands to see if they would magically answer your questions.
“That’s something you have to figure out..” Skylor was adding the pieces in her head.
“Strange..” you echoed Skylor’s words while hopping off the counter. It was 9 in the evening and your shift was ending. You took off your blinding teal uniform apron, leaving you in your mandatory white tee shirt.
“Well, I’ll be participating in the tournament. If you want to come with me, I can take you.” Skylor followed.
“No, it’s fine. I can’t go, I don’t even know how to use my powers or if this is real.” You rambled on.
“Y/N, this could be your chance to figure more about yourself,” Her hand rubbed your shoulder. “your heritage.” she added.
“I’ll think about it.” you hesitated
“Alright, but if you change your mind, let me know,” she smiled. You hummed in acknowledgement and hung your apron in the back.
“Are you going to be cold?” Skylor noticed your lack of jacket. The sun had already set and the cool air of the city.
“I’ll be fine,” you waved “Bye! Have a good night.” you smiled and opened the door to leave.
Skylor waved and went into the back room where her own office was to deal with her emails. Your other co-workers wished you a safe trip home.
As you walked out, your arm brushed against someone sharp or something sharp. They pushed past you. They didn’t even notice you there.
“Ow!” you hissed, touching the spot that was sliced. It was some blond kid with awfully sharp metal shoulder pads, he along with the four other boys kept walking. “Rude.” They entered the noodle house and you continued walking home.
“Assholes.” You mumbled under your breath. You felt a drop of blood drip down her arm, probably staining your shirt. On the sidewalk, you wiped the blood on your hand onto your pants and used the hand sanitizer from your bag. For such a short kid, the cut was not as far up your arm and not deep, thankfully. You left your hand against the small wound to ease the small pain. Unknownly to you, your hands had a small gold glow that was fixed around the wound. The glow from your powers touched the wound and tickled the skin around it leaving nothing but a soft feeling.
As you got home, your “parents” were already asleep. You quietly went to your small bathroom and looked at your arm. Glancing in the mirror, surprisingly there was nothing there. There wasn’t a single scratch, smear of blood or a speck of evidence that a scratch was ever there. “How… I swear there was something there,” you thought to yourself. “Did I heal myself?”
Maybe, it was the smell of the noodle house that was slowly messing with your memories. First it was the strange man, then it was your strange, alleged powers, now this disappearing wound.
You went to your room and yawned. Before getting ready to sleep, you felt the letter tucked away in your pants pocket. The innocent words Skylor spoke softly rang in your mind. “Could this tournament actually help me figure out my powers and my family? What did Skylor mean by “your heritage”, was this connected? How was it connected?”
Millions of questions rang through your mind. You decided to open the letter again, as if to look for more answers. The letter was hand written, but looked off. There was something about it that drew your attention to it. Meet at the Ninjago’s South Fishing Dock… before midnight.
With a few seconds of thinking, you made up your mind on going, you threw your old clothes in the wash, changed into a different outfit and shoved your old phone in your bag. You wrote a quick and reassuring letter to your parents, disguising the tournament as a business trip for your job and took your duffle bag.
It was already 30 before midnight and you rushed to the dock with very few minutes to spare. There was a boat with the same embellishment as the wax seal at the dock and it looked like it had finished boarding. You ran over to the boat but there was no platform to get across.
Clouse spotted you on the dock. “Ms. L/N, we were just about to set sail,” said Clouse. The same guy who disappeared in front of your eyes as if he was made of magic.
“Am I too late?” You were still catching your breath and you saw the distance between the boat and the dock. It was a large gap, no way a person could easily get over without a bridge. You could imagine you looked a mess from running all the way to the other side of the city.
“No, you're just in time. Sorry about the lack of a bridge, there was an earlier issue.” he looked over to a group of guys in color coded suits with some older man, perhaps their mentor.
“How do I…” you looked back up, seeing if someone or something might help you get on the boat. The group of teenaged boys in color coded suits around Clouse had their attention now on you.
“You can jump over, you’ll be fine.” Clouse crossed his arms to see if you'd change your mind and leave. His suggestion is almost as if testing your limits. “Was this a test?”
“Jump?!” you exclaimed with nervous anticipation.
For a moment you considered leaving, walking back home and pretending none of this happened but you came all this way for a tiny scratch of information. Clouse was the only one close enough to see the flicker of hesitation in your eyes. You were not trained to be some hero but you were not one to flee under pressure. You had always been chasing answers so why stop when the answers are within reach, maybe feet away from you. If anything, the competition would’ve more than just answers. Clouse smirked when he saw the determined glimmer in your eyes.
With a few large steps back, you gave yourself enough space to have momentum to run and jump. Taking a deep breath of sea air, you took the running strides forward and leaped off to the dock. Your grip on the duffle bag you grabbed quickly, tightened and you moved slowly, maybe even gracefully through the air. Gravity itself found you, pulling you straight down. You stumbled onto the boat and regained your footing.
“See, I told you you’d be fine” Clouse wore a smug expression on his face.
“I’m never doing that again.” you shifted your bag to a more comfortable position and fixed your hair. You looked around the boat to find Skylor or anyone you could be friends with.
”Y/N?! You came?” Skylor casually walks over and through the crowd.
“Yeah, it was a very last minute decision” you scratched your neck.
“I’m glad you’re here.” She smiled and the two of you walk around the deck.
“Yeah, me too…” you murmured and looked around seeing all these strong, determined, intelligent looking people.
All of the contestants looked closed off and ready to win. They all looked ready but knew what they were doing. There was strong tension between everyone on the ship due to the competition.
One group stood out to you while walking with Skylor around the boat, the one who was with Clouse earlier. She explained that they were ninja but that’s all she knew about them. With a lingering gaze over the group, you frowned as you recognized them as the “assholes” from earlier.
“What’s with your frown? Do you know them?” Skylor’s eyes flickered over at you and wondered what you were thinking of.
“No, but they were at the noodle house earlier today,” you shivered in the cold night breeze. Unfortunately in the rush, you forgot your jacket at home again.
“I know, the guys closing tonight called me after I left and said there was a fight. Too bad we didn’t see it.”
The one night that you didn’t have the night shift was the most eventful. A fight in the restaurant was something that never happened while you worked there. “There was a fight?!” your eyes widened.
“It was brief, apparently the ninja were there and sweet enough to stop it.”
The same ninja that pushed past her harshly without a sorry. “Those ninja.. are you sure?” You questioned Skylor.
“There’s no other ninja like that in Ninjago” Skylor turned her face to the skyline of Ninjago city glowing over the water.
“Like what?” You leaned on the railing and kept your focus on Skylor.
“Ones with elemental powers,”
“What was the deal with elemental powers? How does one even get powers?” So many questions filled your mind. “Right.. but just because they have powers and stopped a fight doesn’t make them angels,” you remarked.
“I never said they were. All I’m saying is everyone here is fighting for something,”
“What are you fighting for?” you looked at her. There wasn’t much you knew about Skylor, other than the fact that her father invited you to this.
“I am-” she was interrupted by some guy with metal gloves grabbing her. Skylor tugged her arm back and scowled.
You yelled at the guy who didn't back off and you completely forgot about their conversation. “Hey!” This commotion caught the attention of one of the ninja, the red one walked over. The metal guy let go of Skylor as approached the red ninja.
Skylor looked over to the red guy and at you. “It’s okay, I can handle myself.”
“This is none of his business. Karlof cold. Karlof just wants her cloak,” Karlof was the silver man’s name.
“You look like you have big enough mittens, why not leave the girls alone.” The red ninja snarked at his joke.
”This not mittens, this crush ninja.” He put his fist in the teen’s face.
“I’d like to see you try.” He stepped forward, glaring into Karloff’s eyes. He was challenging the bigger guy.
“Save it for the tournament, Kai.” their mentor ordered. You took a mental note of all the other contestants names, along with abilities to look out for. While Karloff was focused on Kai, you made sure that Skylor was doing fine.
“Sky, are you alright?” You softly checked up on her.
“I’m fine.” She lied and rubbed the area she was grabbed to ease the aching. She made sure to keep her sleeve down.
Seeing Skylor try to hide the pain drew you in to want to help more, to do anything. “Wait, let me help.” You hated to see people in pain. In submission, Skylor rolled up her sleeve to show her aching arm.
Your finger tips hovered over Skylor’s wrist and forearm. There were faint red marks from the guy’s metal hands. Quickly, you tried to heal it or at least attempt to help. “Why isn’t it working?” You groaned and tried to activate it. “Tap in and take over” The reddened skin didn’t leave and Skylor still looked in pain.
“It’s fine, Y/N. It doesn’t hurt.”
“I can do it, I did it earlier.. just let me-” you trailed off and tried again but your efforts were useless.
“Y/N. You don’t have to push yourself.” She removed her wrist from your kind hands. “I’ll do it.” She seemed to use your power and healed herself. Before Y/N could protest, the two other contestant’s bickering started to get louder.
“Don’t think Karlof afraid of you.” He spoke menacingly.
“No, you don’t think much at all, do you?” He snarked.
Offended by Kai’s word, Karlof grabbed the collar of Kai’s gi and held him up. “Just jump in whenever you feel like it!” The teen panicked while trying to reach the wooden flooring beneath him.
“You say Karlof not smart?” They had a face off. As nosy as you wanted to be, Skylor said it was best if you stay away from the conflict with other contestants.
“I’d say Karlof is plenty smart not to start something he can’t finish.” Another boy but younger spoke up.
You peaked over your shoulder to see what was happening. Only to see the blond kid from earlier with the shoulder pads. Reminding you of the now faded wound, you subtly rubbed your shoulder and continued to watch the scene.
After the blond kid spoke up, Karlof smirked and let go of Kai. Once he was standing on the boat, Karlof punched him with his metal gloves and sent him flying across the boat. Kai yelled and slammed against the boat deck. Even Skylor looked over to the commotion.
“Guess Karlof not smart” he flexed his gloves.
The other three ninja were ready to help their teammate but their mentor blocked their way. “Kai started this, he can finish it.” you glanced over to Kai, who was sprawled out on the deck. You couldn’t pull your eyes away from the fight. There was something intriguing about how they wouldn’t stop.
“Was he okay?” You thought to yourself.
Somehow, he jumped back onto his feet. “These people are crazy.. how am I going to compete against them.” You dissected their fight every action and every decision, for any weaknesses or strengths, desperate for any hope of having a chance of survival in the actual tournament. Kai triggered flames in his hands, his hands glowed with a bright orange.
“Element of Fire…” you watched in awe.
Kai’s fire shots came flying towards Karlof. He used his metal gloves to absorb the fire. Karlof turned on his full powers and his whole body was metal. The weight of the metal guy sprinting to Kai caused the floorboards to creek.
Kai gasped and went to the wall to dodge Karlof’s fists. They pranced around each other, Kai avoiding Karlof’s strong attacks.
Karlof had enough. He grabbed his bright red gi and slammed him into the wall. Then with his fists, he launched Kai’s body into the air, causing him to land on the green bamboo roof.
With a hiss, you whispered a small suggestion. “Sky, is this allowed? Wouldn’t your dad be mad?” Karlof leaped onto the roof and punched where Kai was, smashing through the bamboo roof. “Considering the damage?”
“Concern for your opponents won’t get you anywhere, and my father would find this early competitive spirit really entertaining.” she shrugged and just looked at the water. “We can’t intervene.”
“How was she immune to this chaos and what did she mean ‘opponents’, the tournament hasn’t started yet..” you were confused but continued to watch the fight.
Kai quickly rolled out of the way and onto his feet. Karlof kept throwing punches, pushing them to the edge of the roof.
With a sneaky trick, Kai got Karlof to stumble off the roof but Karlof grabbed Kai’s leg and dragged him down to the deck. The two continued fighting and moved around the ship. They fought to the back gears of the ship, Karlof pushed Kai onto the deck for the final punch. Kai closed his eyes and braced for Karlof’s hit.
“Enough!” Clouse shouted, causing Karlof to get off Kai and walk away. Kai was sprawled out on the deck and still catching his breath.
Skylor walked over to help Kai stand up. “I’m sorry if I was cold to you earlier.” She offers her hand.
“Cute” You watch how she effortlessly makes him flustered.
As you watch this play out, your bag vibrates. You walk away to a quieter part of the boat and take out your phone that was silently ringing. It was almost 1 in the morning and your parents were calling you. “Fuck.” You answer the phone and hear your parents on the other side sigh in relief.
“A work trip? How stupid do you think we are?!” You hear your father’s voice blast through the speaker.
“Honey, she probably has a reason for this,” your mother said softly.
“For leaving the house at midnight for who knows what? She better have a reason.” he retorted.
“I do, I promise.” you interrupted their arguing.
“You better have a good reason, Y/N. We were so scared you were taken… or worse.” your father says.
“It’s about my parents.”
“What? Your parents?” your mother freezes.
“Yes, I can’t tell you right now but I am safe and I will tell you as soon as I can.”
“Y/n, you can’t be serious! Jumping into things without having all the knowledge is reckless. We have no idea where you are or what you could be doing and you just expect us to trust you?” your mother suddenly scolds you.
“I know.” You paused. “I know. Please, just this one time, trust me. I just need to know about my parents” you close your eyes and furrow your eyebrows. You couldn’t just let this opportunity go. They would understand.
“No, come back home. Please, Y/n, we can deal with this in the morning.” My father’s stern voice demanded.
“I can’t.” You responded shortly with a strong regret filling your chest. You bit your nail and heard the sound of footsteps coming your way.
“Why not?”
“I already left. I’m on a boat.”
“Alone?”
“No, there are people here. My boss, Skylor, is here too.” You tried to smile as if they could see you. The footsteps stopped next to you and you looked up to see one of Chen’s followers.
“That doesn’t make it better. Wait for the boat to come back to Ninjago City. We are going to wait at the dock for you.” Before you could answer, the guy with purple tattoos and a skull grabbed your phone.
“No phones” he lifted it up over the railing in a taunting manner.
“Hey!” You reach for it but he tossed it into the water.
“Fuck!” You move to the edge of the rail and look down to the pit of deep blue water as the boat moves away. Something within you wanted to hurt him, it craved a fight.
“It’s forbidden to have any communication with anyone outside the-,”
You punched the guy in the face, making the skull thing fall off his head to the floor. “You asshole!”
You grabbed him and held him against the rail. Threatening to push him overboard. His head looked down at the deep sea.
“Woah Y/N, chill out” Skylor comes over and grabs you off of the guy. You panted.
“What happened to not intervening?” You snapped, not directly at her. You couldn’t relax, your parents were probably worried sick and now there was no way of contacting them. Guilt creeped up on you and punched you in the face like revenge for hurting the skull wearer.
“That was different.” Skylor held your arm loosely. “Right, these are her father’s minions. Of course she’d defend them.” You rolled your eyes and pushed her off, creating space between you two.
The high from your adrenaline rush seemed to dissolve.
“Different how?” You questioned.
“You can’t just be bringing unwanted attention to yourself.” She warned “Not during this competition.”
“Well good thing there is no one else on this part of the boat,” you looked around the whole area to prove your point.
You spotted Clouse and he cues Skylor to leave before she could apologize. He must have seen everything that happened. The follower, who was now adjusting his skull, explained what happened but Clouse held a hand up causing him to leave. Leaving Clouse and you alone.
“Did you take some inspiration from that heated fight from earlier?” he joked.
“No,” You said quickly and looked down at your reddened fist. “I don’t even know what happened.”
“You have people keeping an eye on you already,” he glanced over to the group of ninja. You follow his gaze and quickly looked away, you thought no one had seen.
“I don’t care,” you shifted slightly.
“You should care. If you keep up that energy, you will dominate this tournament.” Clouse looked back at you. “Your opponents can see that.”
“I don’t care about this tournament anymore.” you said quietly, feeling an overwhelming wave of homesick washing over you. Washing away your original confidence and goals.
Your parents calling you snapped you out of this bullshit dream reality of figuring out your heritage and learning about magic powers. A bunch of things that clouded your judgment.
“Oh, why is that?” He tried reading your thoughts.
“I don’t think coming here was smart.” You paused before rambling about what you were feeling. “I barely can use my power and my parents are worried about me… I just don’t think a tournament was the best option”
“I’m assuming that is who you were calling?”
“What?”
“That’s who you were calling. Your parents and they seemed worried?” He hummed
“Yeah.” You looked out to the night sky.
“They would want the best for you,” Clouse knew what he was doing. “for you to find out more about yourself.” He wanted to somehow convince you to stay.
“They just don’t trust me and now I have no way of convincing them to.” Your back leaned against the railing.
“I am truly sorry about your phone, he had no right to throw it into the water.” He sounded genuine. “We can have one of our people get you a new phone and then contact your parents personally.”
“You would do that?” You held your breath.
“Of course, Y/N. We want all of our competitors to feel somewhat comfortable here.”
“That sounds good.. thank you.” You smiled.
“It’s our pleasure,” he walked away. You were left alone in your quiet, secluded corner of the boat.
There was a part of you that still wondered if being here was wise, yet there was a part of you that didn’t care. You are somewhat relaxed now that Clouse would have someone contact your parents. The last thing you would want is your loving parents to worry about you and your reckless behavior. You see Skylor and Clouse talking in a hidden corner of the boat. Her face wore an uncertain half of a smile. “What could they be talking about?”
Later, all of the contestants walked to the front of the boat to finally see the island. Behind the island was the orange sunrise. You were now half awake but ready to figure yourself out.
“We're here. Welcome to Chen’s Island.” Clouse announces.
Growing up in a small community on the outskirts of Ninjago City, with no real guidance, no true family and not many friends, you were always behind. Behind your peers, behind your friends, and behind in life. So ultimately, there was nothing special about you.
Before your parents passed away, they unexpectedly moved far away from their hometown. There was always a part of you that wondered what life would be like with your parents still alive. The weight of being left alone was heavy to bear growing up.
An elderly couple in the particular town grew fond of you, took you under their wing and treated you as their own child. As you grew up, you became closer to the people in the town, befriending mostly every resident there.
Once you were old enough to work in the city alone, you had applied and got the job to become a waitress/cashier. It was the number one restaurant chain in Ninjago city, Chen's Noodle House.
Now you're left wanting to discover more about yourself and your family history.
