The Dangers of Thirium (Connor x Reader)
Request: Hi (first off I love your fics they’re amazing! You’re so talented!!) I was wondering if you could do a Connor x reader where the reader is a detective and has an accident on a case where she becomes part android and he helps he learn/cope with it and all of the romance that comes with it!
A/N: AW TYSM! IT MEANS A LOT :’)) And, I changed it up a bit so instead of the reader being part android, thirium has the protentional to cause a sickness that mimics certain aspects of an android (no sleep, pain, food, liquids) which humans need to survive.
Warnings: Death, Blood, Hank’s Swearing
The blue liquid that takes place as the blood that runs through the wires of a CyberLife android. Why they chose to make to it blue rather than the standard red, you’ll never know. Most likely to differentiate between the humans and androids when push comes to shove. Crime scenes would be much harder to investigate if both android and human blood were red. But, that’s besides the point. Thirium while being the life source to them, is potentially dangerous and even fatal to humans. When accidentally ingested (because who would ingest the blood on purpose), the liquid could change the important needs within the victim. Like an android, the victim would lose the ability to sleep and the want for food and water. Because the human body needs these factors, it is actually damaging its own self without even knowing it. You see, another effect from the blood would lead to the incapability of feeling pain. So, as the body is slowly becoming unhealthier and weaker, the person wouldn’t even realize It until it is too late. There isn’t a known cure for the sickness but luckily no one has ever had the pleasure of accidentally ingesting thirium.
Hank, Connor, and you had followed a lead on a case of a rogue deviant. It took you forever to get this strong of a lead so the minute you found out, all three of you packed into Hank’s car without a second thought and headed in its direction. Surprisingly, it wasn’t that far from where you were, so it didn’t take long to arrive. Hank pulled up in front of the house and you all slid out, hands on your weapons just in case something happened. Connor suggested it was safer to go through the back of the house rather than the front. Hank groaned, watching as you and the android climbed over the fence that divided the front from the backyard. Sometimes, he wondered if you guys believed he wasn’t an old man that can’t move like you could anymore. Patiently, both you and Connor waited for the man to climb the fence with arms out, ready to catch him if he fell. With a grunt, Hank landed (not-so-gracefully) on his feet, thanking the Lord he didn’t break a bone or his whole back.
The trio moved cautiously through the back door, Connor making sure it was safe to walk in first. When he found no signs of danger, you moved through the halls of the abandoned home. There didn’t seem to be any signs of any life anywhere in the vicinity.
“You guys, I don’t think the suspect is here.” You whispered over at them, still wary of anything and everything.
“Yeah, no fuckin’ shit.” Hank said back, regretting even going over the fence. He was already becoming sore. Damn his age.
Connor looked over at the two of you bickering and decided to chip in. “Personally, I believe that the probability wasn’t high in the first place.“
Both your heads whipped in the direction of the android’s voice. “You mean to tell me that we’ve been looking around this goddamn house while you knew it wasn’t fuckin’ likely we were going to find anything?” Hank shouted, holding back from wrapping his hands around his neck.
All three of you froze, slowing looking up at the ceiling of the first floor. You guys were too busy arguing that you didn’t even think to check the second floor of the house. Your hands went straight to your guns as you all moved carefully up the stairs, Connor leading the group. He nodded his head towards one of the bedrooms where the sound came from and slowly walked towards it. There didn’t seem to be anymore sounds until-
“Fuck! Sorry!” Hank whispered from behind you, hopping off the faulty piece of floorboard.
Connor rested his hand on the door knob to the room, his gun ready in the other. He looked at you and you gave him a nod to proceed. Opening the door, the trio stepped into the room to look around. There didn’t seem to be any signs of movement here as well.
“It could’ve been a damn animal.” Hank muttered, leaning over to peer into the bathroom. “Or a bird.” He shuddered at the thought.
You smirked at his reaction to the feathered devils before approaching a closed closet. Slowly, you wrapped around your fingers around the handle to open it.
“Be careful, Detective (L/N).” Connor piped up from behind you, worried something could go wrong.
You gave him a gentle smile of reassurance before turning the handle.
You fell to the floor with a large weight on top of you. Opening your eyes, you saw it was the deviant that you were hunting. It had a crazed look on it’s face as it swung his fists, trying to land a blow on you. You pushed against it’s chest in attempts to get it away from you, but it was no use. Connor aimed his gun at the deviant, but it was moving too much for him to get a clean shot. He didn’t want to risk hurting you. Knowing there was no chance out of this one, you reached for the gun that fell out of your hands. Grabbing ahold of it, you quickly turned back, aiming the gun at its stomach before pulling the trigger. You watched at it’s thrashing settled and it stared at you with a shocked expression. You were breathing heavily as you stared at it, watching the blue blood drip from its mouth. Before you knew it, the liquid fell on your face.
Quickly, you pushed the now dead body off you before getting up. The taste was putrid. This must’ve been what oil tasted like. With a disgusted look, you tried your best to spit the liquid out. Connor and Hank ran over to you with concerned expressions.
“Are you okay?” Hank asked, resting a hand on your shoulder.
You nodded in reply, practically wiping your tongue across your sleeve. Connor narrowed his eyes at your actions before his eyes widened in realization.
“You ingested thirium.” He whispered, taking a step back with his LED blinking red.
Both you and Hank looked at him in confusion at his horrified reaction. You and the man glanced at each other before lowing your sleeve from your mouth. “Just a little…” You gave the android a look. “Why?”
“(Y/N), you don’t understand.” Connor never looked more scared in his life. “I-Ingesting thirium is dangerous to humans. It causes a sickness that spreads like a virus in the body. You will no longer be able to sleep nor be able to eat or drink. You won’t be able to feel the effects because of your lack of pain. You will begin to die without even knowing.”
Hank stared between you and Connor in stunned silence. “Way to sugar coat it, son. Now, she’s traumatized.”
It was true. You stood there frozen in fear. Dying without even knowing? That’s anyone’s worst nightmare. Suddenly, you broke out in nervous laughter. “I-It was only a little bit. It can’t be that bad! Maybe some nausea or…” You trailed off, not knowing a way out of this.
Connor slowly approached you. “(Y/N), I don’t believe it works like that. Just a small drop could-“
He reached out to touch you, but you backed away. “N-No! I’ll be fine! I’ll be okay.” You whispered to yourself before falling silent.
It was quiet for a couple moments before Hank suddenly clapped his hands together. “Whelp! I’m starving.” He said, wanting to change the subject. “There’s a burger joint by here. Let’s get something to eat and try to get your mind off – whatever he said.”
You hesitantly nodded. Maybe some distraction would be good. There was no way that one taste could kill you. You spit it out straight after to! That means you didn’t ingest it – right?
You followed Hank out the door with Connor trailing behind, a worried look on his face as he kept a close eye on you.
The smell of burgers and fries in the air immediately brought you relaxation. The sound of the fryer like angels singing. The three of you squeezed into a small booth, you and Connor on one side with Hank on the other (said he needed ‘elbow room’). Picking up the menu, you looked over the main different choices of burgers and fries. Wow, this was a lot to choose from. Not bad with the price as well. Why didn’t you hear of this place before? Finally deciding on what you wanted, you politely told the waitress and handed her back the menu. It was silent between the three of you, not wanting to address the elephant in the room. The only sound was the slurping from Hank’s straw as he already finished his drink.
“What? I was thirsty!” He argued when he saw the look on the both of your faces.
You saw the waitress come back out with a tray of your food and you rubbed your hands together. Nudging the android next to you, you whispered over to him. “See? I still have my appetite.”
Connor side-eyed you, still wary of the possibility. He whispered back over to you, “Androids still have sight and smell. We enjoy the presence of food although we cannot eat it.”
The plates were set down in front of you and Hank. Smirking over at Conner, you picked up a fry just to prove him wrong. You took a bite out of it, waiting to savor the taste. But, it was horrible. You immediately spit it out (much to Hank’s disgust) and took a napkin to wipe off your tongue. Was the food rotten? It couldn’t have been considering it looked fresh and Hank was happily devouring into his. Looking over at Connor, you saw how his eyebrows were knitted in concern.
Sighing, you pushed the plate away from you. “I-I’m not that hungry.” You mumbled sadly.
Hank looked up from his food, sliding over your plate to his side. “I’ll take care of it for you.” He said with a mouth full of food.
Connor saw the defeated expression on your face, wishing he could do something about it. Closing his eyes, his LED turned yellow as he searched the internet for a solution.
He opened his eyes again to see you and Hank packing up to leave. How long had he been searching for something? Conner slid out of the booth and followed the two of you. The bright LED lights from the burger joint reflected brightly against the exterior of Hank’s vehicle. There was light drizzle in the air meaning it was going to start pouring in less than an hour.
Hank offered to take you home which you agreed to. Some rest would do you some good. Sitting in the back of Hank’s ride with Connor and Hank in the front, you watched soulfully out the window as the rain pattered against it. You didn’t notice Connor watching you from his spot in the passenger’s seat with a miserable look adorned on his face. He didn’t know what to do at this point. He couldn’t just watch you wither away right before him.
Eventually, you pulled up to your apartment building and you thanked Hank for the ride.
“I can accompany you inside.” Connor offered, leaning forward to see you. Hank hit his shoulder, giving him a look.
Shaking your head, you gave him a small smile. “I’ll be okay, Connor. Please don’t worry.”
Hesitantly, he nodded as you turned away to enter your building. You heard the tires roll away on the wet asphalt, driving off. Walking up the stairs to reach your apartment, you took the keys from out of your bag and slid it into the keyhole, turning it to the side until you heard the soft click. The lights automatically turned on as you entered the small apartment.
“Welcome back, (Y/N).” The apartment voice said softly.
You jumped ten feet in the air when you heard it. You’ll never get used to it no matter how hard you tried. Technology these days. Dropping your bag and keys onto the table, you headed to the fridge to get a drink. Finding a leftover beer, you took it out of the fridge and popped open the cap. ‘It’s been a long day.’ Was your excuse. You raised the bottle to the robot apartment voice thing and moved it to your lips. The minute you got a taste, you immediately ran over to the sink to spit it out. Sighing, you drained the bottle and threw it into the trash bin. Maybe you really were infected.
Deciding it was best to take a shower, you walked to the bathroom and turned on the water. You changed the temperature until it was just right, and you stripped from your clothes. The water from the nozzle hitting your body made you breathe in relief. Showers really do wonders to the human body. Looking down at your legs, you decided it was time to have them shaved. Reaching over, you grabbed the razor and got to work. When you finished, you watched as the water ran down the drain. But, then the water was tinted pink.
Looking down, you realized that you accidently cut yourself with the razor while shaving and didn’t even realize it. “Shit!” You shouted, aiming the water at the wound to wash it. You were bracing for the horrible sting, but none came. You didn’t feel anything. There was no pain at all. Quickly you got out of the shower and wrapped yourself in a towel. You could feel the blood dripping once again, but you quickly got an old rag and put it on the cut. Reaching over to cabinets underneath the sink, you grabbed a spare first aid kit and some disinfectant. You dabbed some peroxide on a cotton ball and touched the cut.
You grabbed a band-aid and put it on, successfully stopping the flow of blood. You put on some old pajamas and climbed into bed, fresh and clean. The lights automatically dimmed themselves, sensing that you were laying down. Looking at the clock on the side of the bed, you didn’t even realize how late it was.
Normally, you’d be exhausted after a long day of deviant hunting but tonight you just – weren’t. You felt wide awake like you just got up from a long nap. This wasn’t normal for you at all. But, then you remembered what Connor said to you. The thirium would take away your ability to sleep despite needing it. Your stomach dropped at all the things you remembered him saying.
You flung yourself out of bed and ran over to the phone, the bright light from it briefly blinding you. You looked through your contact list until you found ‘Connor’ and you pressed the call feature. He would still be at the DPD doing work at this late of an hour. The phone rang once. Twice. When you thought he wasn’t going to pick up, a voice came on the other end.
You immediately responded, practically shouting at the phone while pacing through the apartment. “Connor, I need you to come over.”
You heard the sound of the call ending abruptly and you placed your phone on the counter with a sigh as you held your face in your hands.
There was a sudden knock at your door and you moved to answer. Opening the door, Connor stood on the other side. He didn’t even need to say anything to you as he walked by.
“Welcome back, Connor.” The apartment voice said.
Yeah, Connor visits every so often to keep you company. No one really says anything about it. It’s just a thing. As he walked inside, he turned to you, waiting to hear everything you had to say. But, instead of talking, you just walked over and pulled him into a hug. His arms paused in the air for a moment before wrapping themselves around you.
“(Y/N)?” He questioned, resting his head on top of yours.
You just squeezed him tighter in reply. “I’m scared, Connor.” You whispered, the side of your face against his chest. “E-Everything’s turning out like the way you said. I can’t eat or drink, I can’t sleep, and I can’t feel pain. But, my body feels fine. I-I don’t know what to do anymore.”
Connor slowly led you to the edge of the bed as he sat you down. “I’ve searched everywhere for a cure and nothing has come up.” He saw your expression worsen. “B-But, we will figure something out.”
Sitting side-by-side with the android, you leaned your body against his. “I don’t wanna die.” You said, making Connor immediately turn his body to look at you straight in the eyes.
“You are not going to die.” He put a piece of your hair behind your ear. “I will find a way.” The more he stared at your face, the more an idea dawned upon him. “(Y/N), will you please excuse me?”
Before you could reply, Connor rushed out of the room, digging his phone out of his pocket. He quickly dialed up a certain old man before bringing the device up to his ear. He had to call Hank multiple times before he picked up. The android backed the phone away briefly as he heard the shouts of a half-asleep man who was complaining about being woken up so early. When Hank’s rant was over, Connor reattached the phone to his ear before he replied.
“We need to speak with Kamski.”
