How it felt watching Yeloenk's video about Poth because finally someone with a bigger platform than me made a good explanation of the one character and ship that's been genuinely awful and harmful and looming over me because people just don't want to listen to people like me

Also mind boggling how Nekophy is not openly criticized MORE despite being one of the most prominent people in the UT AU (especially shipkid) community

people of colour deserve to be able to enjoy fluff and escapism and transformative media and silly fandom stuff the same way that everyone else is allowed to, i think. there’s a lot of unexamined hostility toward anyone who isn’t white; sometimes it’s subtle, and sometimes it’s not. there needs to be far more love and support for poc, and far less defensiveness and tolerance regarding racism in spaces like these.

okay respectfully you can’t be talking about jakei erasing canon trans characters identities when you are drawing ink ship art. he is canonically aroace. they might not be the best rep, but completely ignoring that they’re aroace so you can draw ship art of them and dream making out is just. also ignoring a character’s canon lgbt identity???

as someone who is aroace myself, i do not ignore or erase ink's aroace identity. even though i pair them and dream together, he is still aroace and i still view them as such. drink is a complex relationship to me, and the aroace identity is also a complex spectrum.

i'm simply going to redirect you to Coolingrosa's post on why i think drink works. personally, it's one of the only ink ships that i can see meshing well with ink's canon character and identity.

Jakei's weird inconsistency and erasure of character's trans identities when she is a CIS person is not the same as me drawing drink. me drawing drink does not necessarily mean he isn't aroace anymore. i know it can feel frustrating to see a lot of people who DO post ink ship art and simultaneously erase ink's aroace identity (trust me, it bothers me too) but that's not what i'm doing. i apologize if it may seem that way.

not to mention that comyet has stated that shipping ink is completely fine. not only is it encouraged by comyet, but drawn to be encouraged by ink themselves too.

i also think ink is great aroace representation, and i see myself in him in many different ways. i think it's fair if not every aroace person feels that way, because we're not a monolith! however, a lot of other aroace people that i've talked to also see themselves in ink. when i was criticizing his rep in Underverse, i was talking about Underverse ink, specifically. let's keep in mind that UV ink is not the same as canon ink.
