A noticeable tan line cut his torso in half, the culprit being the crop top he’d worn to the palooza. “Do you think if I wore really high waisted pants I could get the top half to match up?”

“Do they make jeans that high?” Reinaldo asked curiously as he eyed the other man. “I would invest in some fake tanning if I were you, just tell them you want to match the other half.”

Luna took a step back from the community bulletin board to assess her flyer placement. The words RAD BASSIST SEEKS BAND were in bold at the top and she’d gone to the trouble of doing that thing with the tabs at the bottom with her name and number for people who were interested. “Does that stand out enough to get your attention? I didn’t want to go too bright but I want people to notice.” She looked to the person closest to her and nodded to the flyer. “Side note, do you know anyone looking for a bass player? Preferably a band that doesn’t suck.”

Rei hadn’t thought of being in a bad since high school, honestly. Not that he could play any instruments, but he always admired art and music from afar. “Ah, you’re looking for a whole band? Pretty sure Facebook might help you more than fliers.” He offered with a small shrug. “Not a lot of people look up from their phones in this day and age.”

Noelle finished with her classes early and was killing time by walking in and out of stores she loved but couldn’t yet afford on her own. She caught sight of someone holding up two different items to themselves in the mirror and she smirked to herself. She kept an eye on them as she browsed the racks of clothes she buy someday, resolving to keep her opinion to herself unless she was asked. Unfortunately, they seemed to pick the wrong option and she couldn’t hold back. “I would go with the other one if I were you. It brings out your eyes. And, honestly, the color of that one’s going out of style in the next year or two, tops. You’ll get more use out of the other one.”

Mother’s Day gifts were the bane of his existence, his mother was entirely too picky and honestly, Reinaldo was good at several things but he didn’t exactly understand his mother. He was basic and practical, unlike the rest of his family, so picking out gifts for them was a task that he never wanted to endure. Every single second that he spent in the store, he cursed himself for not begging his older sister to pick everything from both of them. He was looking at a jacket when the female voice came out of nowhere, making his raise an eyebrow. “Would it help if I said it’s not for me, but for my mom?” He asked. playfully before he shrugged. “She doesn’t repeat outfits, so shell be fine, I think. But seeing as you’re a woman, give me some of that wisdom. What would you pick for her?”

It didn’t take a genius to realize that Kennedy wasn’t having the best week, actually, scratch that, she wasn’t having the best year because of her involvement with the SoWood project, from what little he knew about it. Santiago, well, he was one of those entitled and clearly unbothered people that was aware of his privilege and never really used it to do better or to do worse. He simply didn’t care enough about anyone other than himself to ever think the way that Kennedy though. He didn’t care about the South Side or the North Side, so long as he could have his fun every night like he normally did.

This past few weeks though, while his girlfriend got lost in her job, Santi put his brain to good use for once and figure out just how to make sure his father would leave her mother and they could finally be happy. He stepped inside Kennedy’s room unannounced, after he showered and in his velvet pjs with a folder in his hands, closing the door behind himself. “A million pennies for your thoughts.” He said playfully as he kissed her cheek. @kennedy-mcpherson​

“Santiago, it’s not about the stores. You and me both know, new stores are great. But like, think about it? New stores at the expense of people’s houses? That’s a bit fucked. Stefan explained it to me like this, we have a lot… right?” Tinsley told her friend, as he wouldn’t be able to say no as he and basically all of Rosewood knew his dad was like super super wealthy. “These people… not so much. Do we really need to take more from them? It seems kind of fucked up, don’t you think?” She told Santiago with a shrug. Sure, Tinsley wasn’t really the humanitarian type and she wasn’t pretending like she was going to be on the front lines against her future father in law tomorrow but she could acknowledge that the south side had been given the short end of the stick. “How he treats my boyfriend aside, yes he’s been incredible as mayor. But he’s been incredible for us.”

“I don’t know, I thought they all got paid for their houses and they could move somewhere else, isn’t that how that works?” Granted, he had no idea of what he was talking about and despite the fact that Tinsley seemed to genuinely care about the cause these days, he showed no remorse over not really giving a fuck about the other side of town. “It’s just how things work, you know? Nothing we can do about it. If it’s not the town who does it, someone with big money will steal their idea and end up doing it.” He shrugged it all off, leaving the flyer she gave him on a table and taking a flute of champagne. “So, are you and Stefan behind all of this? ‘Cause I’d like to say, 10 points on creativity.”

Kennedy tilted her head as her boyfriend spoke of not looking forward to finally coming out as a thing. Now, Kennedy was as confident as they came but when it came to Santiago… at times, she did feel a bit insecure. This was someone that she’d liked for quite sometime, from before their parents decided that they’d wanted to get married. He’d been that guy for her, the guy she’d always wanted. Hearing him say that he wasn’t looking forward to an attempt to get them to stop being some sort of dirty little secret, well, that sort of bothered her and if you knew Kennedy, not much bothered her. “But we’re not out of our minds.” She told him with a shake of her head. “Do you think we’re out of our minds?” She asked Santiago, letting of his arm as she wanted his honest opinion in that moment. “Honestly?  Because I want us. Like sure, we’re never going to be the brunch types or the stupid picnic in the park people but I’d like to be able to hold your hand without the flowers in the attic context following suit. That won’t be able to happen if we don’t tell them that we like each other a lot more than they do.”

Santiago noticed her annoyance as soon as she let go of him. They were in their private bubble back at home, but if there was something that he knew about Kennedy, it was that she communicated a lot with her body. He’d always known that she wanted him as much as he wanted her because of that closeness that they always kept, even when they were too busy trying to hate on each other. “No, we’re not.” He conceded. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to be open and finally let everyone know that they were together, but he didn’t want to deal with the aftermath of their parents knowing so early on because he knew that his father wouldn’t approve. “Okay, that’s so not what I meant.” He turned to look at her and frowned. “I want that, too. What I’m saying is...that my father will not approve. He might go after my ass for this, I mean, he does see you as a daughter. But I did not say I’m not willing to go through whatever punishment he’ll give me. I’ll do it, so we can be together.” He let her know slowly, his voice staying low as he looked back at her intently. “I just want you to know that it might not be as easy.” Sure, they’d met even before their parents had, they’d always had that flame to their relationship and when they’d found out about the marriage, it had led to a lot of hate from both sides, but he knew they weren’t in the wrong for wanting each other. “What matters is to get them to divorce, right? Why don’t we focus on that first?”

“Clearly you never drank the punch or caught the gossip blog’s attention,” she chuckled, wondering how someone had managed to miss that entire reign of terror. Lucky them, she supposed. “This is actually very tame in comparison. No one’s been abducted this time, as far as I can tell. Though I am suffering some very intrusive thoughts about the Mayor channelling his inner Miley on a wrecking ball.” She opened her hands, shrugging at how he’d managed to miss some pretty defining moments in Rosewood history. “It was at my prom. You’re older than me, so I guess that’s why. The creep running the gossip blog went pretty wild for a few years there so… maybe you’re just really good at minding your own business. Like… really good.”

“Yeah, you’re right. I think I was already old when all of that happened.” Santiago was normally too focused on his own things to realize any of this too, he knew that, but he felt as if something bad couldn’t have been missed. Not even by him. “That’s an odd and very graphic thing to say, especially because I’ve known that man for a long time. So thank you.” He murmured playfully, definitely wishing the image would disappear from his brain after he had a couple of drinks later that night. “Shit. Did we ever find out who this person was? And to be fair, I usually spent more time out of town than here, until recently. So that might be why.”

“And yet it’s happened, Santiago.” Tinsley told Santiago, happily handing him the flyer in her hand. “And quite honestly, I’m upset I hadn’t been against this earlier.” She let the guy know, with a flip of her hair. “Yes, yes it is.” She nodded, as her relationship to the McKibbon family was no secret. One day, her last name would surely be McKibbon but that didn’t mean she had to like the head of her future family. “Oh, I can’t speak for Stefan, but I think Mr. McKibbon deserves what’s coming to him. I got my comeuppances, why shouldn’t he get his?”

“Humor me, what’s so bad about this? It’s always good to get new stores, new places to visit. Don’t tell me that, out of nowhere, you care about some people moving out of their houses.” Santiago was genuinely curious. From what he’d seen about Tinsley, she wasn’t particularly selfless, so why would she even think about other people when it came to this. “I wouldn’t know. I thought he was doing a great job as Mayor so far, but as you know, politics aren’t my thing.”

“So you say,” Kennedy said with a playful roll of her eyes. A Chadwell is a Chadwell and they were well known for their dramatics. “But for the sake of this shirt I love so much on you, please get yourself that poncho.” She told him with a small laugh, solely for the sake of teasing him. What? Sure, Kennedy might be sort of head over heels for the man but she was not going to stop poking fun at him whenever she could. The fact that Santiago was picking up coffee for Bunny Chadwell was sort of cosmic retribution in the most hilarious of ways. “Yes, it’s tonight.” Kennedy nodded, sipping on her own drink. “Thank you. I will most definitely be making it up to you.” She told him with a wink. “Well, neither do I but if it happens to be a snore, I did happen to call a certain friend of mine for a little pick me up.” If you thought Kennedy enjoyed these stuffy Galas, you’d be highly mistaken. But she knew to get further in life, you had to play the game. “Of course we do.” Kennedy said, the look of her face letting him know it was obvious why. “We tell them in front of the whole town because our parents won’t react in front of the whole town. We shock them to their core and then we give them our demands which is a haste divorce as it’s simply messing with… us.” Kennedy told him with a roll of her eyes. “They tried this for a year, it’s simply not working. Just take each other’s money and go on with your lives.” She ranted, as sure she didn’t blame her mother for marrying Santiago’s father. The man was a multimillionaire and sure, perhaps she would have stayed with the cheating bastard solely for that. But Kennedy was not going to be held back from what she wanted for her mother’s greed. Hers simply came first.

“I want you to know that not even Bunny Chadwell could do that to me.” Santiago reminded her with an easy smirk, not really taking her words to her. Before they got together, he would feed into it more, but now, he had other things in mind; like a whole day of work ahead and then a boring gala to finish off the least Santiago Valdez day he’d ever had. But he couldn’t say no to coming to the gala for her, after all, she was working extremely hard on making sure the new mayor was successful in his plans. Santiago was mostly pro-gentrification, everyone knew that Rosewood needed it, but he wasn’t in the middle of it the way that she was. Politics and economy had never been his thing to figure out, nor something that kept him entertained. So he was going along with whatever she wanted to do without really voicing much of an opinion about it. “Give them a call right away, I’ll probably need a pick me up from the very beginning.” Dealing with his parents was the least of his worries, but he also wasn’t interested in talking to them. When it came to schemes and bets, Santiago like having fun, not doing anything serious like actually telling his parents about them. “Well, if that’s the plan, I’ll do my best. Not looking forward to it.” He admitted with a small shrug. “You know the first thing that they’ll do is fucking think we’re out of our minds and try to pull us apart, right?”

“Oh, it doesn’t seem like you caught one of the flyers from tonight’s presentation,” Tinsley told a passerby, handing off one of the many flyer’s she’d managed to grab of her soon to be father in law— looking just as Stefan and herself had seen him for quite some time now. “you’re welcome.” She said with a bright smile, enjoying this a lot more than she thought she would have.

“My, my, my. Tinsley Chadwell against gentrification? Never thought I’d see the day.” Santiago smirked a little, grabbing the flyer from her and finally giving it a good look now that Kennedy had disappeared somewhere. “Wait, isn’t this your future father-in-law? I assumed you and Stef would be freaking the fuck out about this.”

“I should have given up on these things after hell prom. Every time I put on a fancy dress something weird happens.” Willow plucked a piece of red confetti out of her hair and blew it off her palm to watch it flutter to the floor, “At least it’s not real blood this time, right? And it’s, you know, informative and creative.” The flyer was certainly one she was going to be keeping for later, one already tucked into her purse.

“On the contrary, I think people have stepped up their game for events here lately. They were dull when I went to Rosewood Academy, but now? At least, I can try to enjoy the chaos that surrounds me.” Santiago wasn’t really interested in anything that was happening, aside from the fact that it clearly bothered Kennedy a little bit. He was in her team, but he couldn’t say that he was sad that some drama was happening. Gala’s were made for this in his opinion. “Wait, real blood? How did I miss that?”

“Well, you were working with the inept people who work at Starbucks, so that doesn’t shock me one bit.” Kennedy consoled Santiago, happy to be enjoying a small moment with him. Given his recent lapse in judgement in taking an assisting job for one, Bunny Chadwell, they didn’t have much time together as of lately. “If I were you, I’d definitely stop at the local pharmacy to get yourself a poncho because I wouldn’t be shocked if she sends that order hurling towards you.” She let Santiago know with a devious little smirk, her arm intertwining with his as she was enjoying this new change of pace for them. No, Rosewood didn’t have to be in the know of what their relationship was but they certainly weren’t going to hide it. “I hope that you do remember that we are on for this evening.” Kennedy poked at his arm. “I refuse to go to this Gala with all these boring uninspired people without you.” She told him before leaning just slightly. “Plus, I think we have a certain announcement to make to your father and my mother.”

“She’s not really that kind of boss.” Santi explained easily with a small smirk on his face, if she really thought that he would take that sort of treatment from anyone, even Bunny who was his boss, then his girlfriend didn’t know him that well. He’d rather be unemployed and without his father’s money than take that sort of treatment. After all, if there was one thing that Santiago Valdez was, it was proud. “Shit, the gala is tonight? I’ll be there. I really, really hope it’s not boring. You know that’s not really my scene.” He admitted. Technically anywhere that meant he couldn’t let loose was a big no in his mind, he was more into debauchery and pleasure than looking all pretty and donating money to things he couldn’t care less about. “Are you saying we’re going to tell them in front of the whole town? Is that really a good idea?”

“Just how many times can someone mess up a simple coffee order? I can’t believe it.” Santiago working as an assistant for anyone was still surreal to him, but hey, working for Bunny wasn’t too bad. The thing was that she was his friend and he didn’t want to disappoint her, so he was actually trying. Even if it came down just to her drink order. “It took me 45 minutes to get out of Starbucks with the right order. I hope it’s good enough that she won’t freak out on me for being late.” He rolled his eyes at himself as he rambled to the other person that was walking next to him.

She sure hoped so too, as she got ready to hopefully hit that pumpkin, and far. As it came toward her, she made sure to hit it hard, but not hard enough that it would break, watching as it went flying, landing with a splat on the ground not far from the guy in front of her. “You mind picking that up?,” she asked him, pointing to the pumpkin next to him with a grin. “Didn’t break ‘til it hit the ground by the way, so it counts.”

Reinaldo covered his head as soon as he saw the bat come in contact with the bat, making sure it wouldn’t hit him. He didn’t want to end up unconscious before his night actually turned into a fun one. “Alright, alright.” He smirked as he finally saw what was left of the pumpkin in the ground, walking back to her as he got his wallet from the back pocket of his jeans. “I’m impressed. And I’m a man of my word.” He gave her a twenty, smirking. “Thank you for your service.”

If you want to prove him wrong then you can do it yourself.” Daniella went to hand the bat back to the guy when the pumpkin came hurtling towards her so she ducked. “There was no need for that.” She threw the bat at his feet and crossed her arms, she wasn’t really happy and nothing he said would change that.

“In my defense, you had the bat in your hands when I threw it.” Reinaldo smirked back at her, trying to hold back his laughter at the way she was handling the situation. Some people just needed to lighten up. “Guess I’ll have to find a new partner then, right?”
