Before Julia...
With lockdown not ending anytime soon the obvious way to spend the time is rewatching MM from the start š„°
Iāve almost finished season one and have been reminded of someone I think most of us have forgotten, but someone who is important to Williamās character and in turn, his relationship with Julia.
LIZA!
Look how happy they were š
Liza was someone that William planned to spend the rest of his life with and as he tells Arthur Conan Doyle, āI know how painful it can be watching the woman you love slowly die...ā
With any grief, any loss, it stays with you and becomes a part of you so I think losing Liza had a profound effect on the way William sees love, relationships and therefore his relationship with Julia.
He tells Doyle that when faced with the inevitability of losing the one you love all you can do is, ācherish every moment you have left with each other.ā
This made me think of the last scene of season thirteen. William forgives Julia for almost being unfaithful and the way he does so seems so effortless. Of course, he points out that heās thought of other women; but that aside itās as if by this point he realised how pointless it is to dwell on the āwhat if?ā of the situation. What if she did stray? It doesnāt matter. She didnāt. So letās focus on whatās to come and cherish the time we have together.
Despite seeing dead bodies almost everyday, and losing his mother, I think it was the loss of Liza that taught him how fragile we are, and in his own words, how we have to cherish our time with each other.
William and Juliaās relationship has been tested so many times, yet they pull through every time. In season fourteen Iām sure weāll see them stronger than ever, making the most of their time together. I think we have Liza to thank for that... at least just a little bit ā¤ļø
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEASON FOURTEEN?!
Right. Time to get out those theories, hopes, and dreams š„³š
"Fascinating!"
We love Julia
Jonny Harris/George Crabtree is a treasure. All his interactions with Watts in The Killing Dose, are just hilarious especially when he realizes what Watts and Jack Walker are to each other.
And to be honest, the bit about āmoney troublesā always resonates with me because it probably started off as a comedic line to talk about Jack and Watts but it ended up so sweet and just heartwarming to hear it even if itās in doublespeak.
female awesome meme -Ā [9/20] female dynamics: emily grace and lillian moss
not only do i want a brax family dinner (brax, margaret, john, bobby if he still exists, nomi, sarah if sheās in town, watts, jack), but i want a dinner that goes from sweet and calm to fucking dramatic as hell because brax decides to casually sayĀ āoh btw im planning on retiring and watts is going to be the next inspectorā with no warning
āBobby if he still existsā š
actual scene from the future is unwritten
Iconic
Could we all just take a moment to appreciate how good Jonny Harris is?
That is all.
Heās a brilliant actor ā¤ļø
A man of honour who has grown quite a lot over the 13 seasons.
Brax has become such a big softy ā¤ļø
Effie, youāre doing amazing ā¤ļø
I donāt ship Effie and George but thereās no doubt sheās a brilliant lawyer, friend, partner, and person all round.
The finale in particular showed this. She chose to defend Violet with good reason, and reached out to William to make sure there were no hard feelings, expressing that she was just doing her job.
She was genuinely grateful for Henry looking into Georgeās sitiuation, and even when Henry implied he was off with another women, Georgeās well-being was what mattered to her.
Effie is one of the best new characters to come along, and while I personally donāt want her to be the one for George, sheās still a supportive and considerate partner. I hope she sticks around... more crime solving with Julia and Louise please!
After watching āIn the Company of Women,ā I actually like Louise now... when sheās not being an arse to SH4.
Dixon? I really donāt understand why some people like him. Even when heās not actively drooling over Julia, his ego is unbearable. Heās selfish (ever think about William and what youāre doing to their marriage?) and heās so entitled, thinking if he keeps pushing heāll get Julia.
Louise may be ruthless at times but itās obvious as to why she has to be... but she knows when to rein in it. In āThe Accidentā she accepted how inappropriate she was acting and decided to help with the situation instead. When George was with Nina and she still had feelings for him, she only made her move AFTER he and Nina broke up the first time, and didnāt push it when she realised he still loved Nina. We may want to throttle Louise sometimes but she deserves respect.
Dixon is just a twat.
THAT SCENE.
No, Julia. No š¢
Her hair in a plait and wearing blue made me think of season 1 and it made me think that maybe sheās not actually falling for Dixon, but sheās trying to recreate the excitement she felt when we first saw her in 1895.
She was fairly new to the morgue (couple years maybe?) and her relationship with William was just starting to blossom. Looking at her life now, sheās been married, widowed, married again, lost two babies (counting Roland) and left the morgue because she felt that suffocated by death. The only thing in her life right now thatās providing her with satisfaction and positivity is working at the hospital.
Not to downplay what sheās going through, but I think Juliaās having a bit of a mid-life crisis. And that song Dixon sang? āLet me call you sweetheart...ā heās inviting her to have that new, exciting, and hopeful experience of a new relationship again. As if she can go back in time and relive what she had with William.
I donāt know, I donāt think she would have cheated had Dixon not shown an interest. Heās pretty much a tool to relive the past I think.
GOD HOW CAN JILLIAM COME BACK FROM THIS?
Young George Crabtree giving me PG young Don Draper vibes
that sh1 detective is gonna arrest jack isnāt he. thereās gonna be a parallel with the jail scene from philately fatality isnāt there.
George
