i've had this blog for three years now and it felt like i should i should make an intro post to pin. lol

something i really enjoy about zuko as a character that i don’t think everyone understands (certainly not the live action writers) is that he’s actually not that great of a firebender, especially at the beginning of the series. like obviously he’s learned rare skills such as redirecting lightning and bending rainbow fire by the end of the series, but he’s still very much a student in my eyes. it’s also just that he’s surrounded by the best benders of his generation. katara, toph, and azula are each true masters, while for zuko the importance of bending is more about what it symbolizes for him.

zuko’s struggles with bending are part of what makes him a great character, the same way katara and toph’s determination to be the best makes them great characters and azula’s identity as a prodigy is part of what makes her a great villain.

reasoning behind both:

er nurse/emt: i’ve seen a lot of people write katara as a nurse, which i don’t always enjoy as she had the arc in the north water tribe where she didn’t just want to be a healer, she wanted to fight. however i can excuse it if she’s specifically in the middle of the action trying to help people. firefighter katara is also kind of appealing for this reason. all of this being said, i understand the draw to putting her in medicine. i’ve also been thinking of making her a nurse practitioner. there are too many options. also i say nurse not doctor because nurses have to be everything for everyone and are incredibly overlooked and that just feels more katara to me.

environmental lawyer: okay so i know her actions in the show skew more human rights lawyer but i like to tie in her waterbending. plus isn’t she an ecoterrorist in the show? anyway i totally see katara doing something political at the very least in her spare time. in every universe she is kicking ass for the greater good
