PAAIIID THEE PRIIIICEEEE
I’m gonna reshare this till the day I die.
I’m not exactly sure why this confession rubs me the wrong way.
So… I agree that it was a mature decision, sure…perhaps. But it’s far from her MOST mature decision before and after this point in the timeline. I think that’s where I have a problem with here, but I’m still not sure (?)
Hachi was given an ultimatum and Takumi made it seem like she was making this choice herself …because she was abandoned by her friends and he was the only person who seemed to care. So of course someone who is successful and offers to marry her and be the father of her child (regardless of who the biological father turns out to be) was the correct choice.
It’s also definitely selfless that she considers that if Nobu wasn’t bogged down with children he could pursue his dream to live it big with BLAST and that her child would have a stable financial future with Takumi’s music success.
However, I think that despite her introduction as superstitious, fickle, and immature… Hachi has grown, especially by this point, and becomes one of the most selfless characters in the entire series. I could come back with supporting evidence for this, if asked…. but I’m feeling lazy at the moment.
Okay, so I think I figured it out now. … I disagree that she was only thinking about Nobu and her baby. There’s no way that is possible. Hachi was deeply hurt by who turned up for her when she found herself in that situation. I’ve always considered that if Nana came back with Nobu that night, her decision would have been different and I sincerely believe that.
So, I think she wasn’t being completely selfless and that she was also thinking about Nana. Nana’s completely adverse reaction to the Takumi baby news is what I believe is enough for Hachi to think she could live with an abuser and be okay with it. Sure, the baby’s well-being and Nobu’s future are also big factors…but we’ve seen her do this before. One off comment from Shoji and she moved in with a complete stranger like the very next day… that decision was far from mature and far from selfless, just like this one. She was protecting herself from a certain kind of judgement from Shoji and she already mentioned once before she cares A LOT about what Nana thinks of her.
I’d also like to mention I have very high regards to both Nana and Hachi, and it was very mature of them to make up after this…even if it was months after the fact & I’m glad they did so.
But anyway I’m talking in circles, and as always I have to apologize to the poor blog I always reblog and rant from– sorry! What does everyone else think?
I agree with most of what you’ve said. Hachi didn’t do the most mature thingu, but the most convenient thing that she could made in that moment. As you said, she felt like Nana and Nobu abbandoned her, so she put herself in Takumi’s hands, because she wasn’t able to solve her problems by herself. Hachi has been like this for most of the manga: a girl who was totally unable to solve problems by herself and who costantly need someone to “cling” to (Junko, Nana, Nobu, Takumi). That’s why that time she clinged to Takumi, that was representing her life line. Later in the manga, at Shin and Reira’s birthday party she said that “Takumi does everything better that anyone else, but he lack feelings”…I mean, if he was the right choise, did she really wanted to raise her child with a man who lack feelings? How can such a person raise a baby? A baby needs a lot of feelings, more than a lot of money or a big house: that’s why I’ve always thought that Takumi couldn’t have been a good father (and also not the best choise for her and the baby). Read her words in this panel, they say exactly the same:
And just a few panel later she admitted to have been a spoiled brat:
Also (a little precisation), Nobu hasn’t abandoned her like many people say just to defend what Takumi did, he just was shocked and disappointed. When he asked Hachi “told me something, even if it’s a lie I will believe you”, she didn’t answer, she made him believe that she had betrayed him with Takumi. We can’t blame him if in the end he left her room without saying anything about the baby. Hachi let him go, so it’s her own fault. I think he would have been ready to stay with her and raise the baby, if only she would have said him “no, I’ve never betrayed you, I want to raise this kid with you”. And he didn’t do nothing after because he didn’t want to go against Hachi’s decision. He respected her.
And when he said this, she finally admitted she fucked up
But Nobu highlighted wisely that it doesn’t matter if she hadn’t betrayde him: in the end she chose Takumi in any case
And finally, in the end, Hachi said the truth for the first time: all what she was saying was only an excuse to justify what she has done, a way to not seem worst than she actually is. She wanted to feel less guilty.
She said that she hadn’t chose Takumi “for Nobu’s sake” has she wanted to make all the people believe
Ok, then she said that Nobu made her feel miserable when he suspected about her betraying him, but…if we all were in Nobu’s shoes, what would we have done? If you find out that your girlfriend is pregnant and when you go to her house you find her with her boyfriend…I mean, it’s normal to think what Nobu thought, isn’t it? And then, in the end she finally confessed: she didn’t chose Takumi for the baby’s sake or for Nobu’s sake, but fot her own sake, like every single time:
She’s so scared of being alone, because she is unable to fend for herself, and that’s why she chose the only person that in that moment shown her to be willing to take care of her/spoil her.
Maybe my point of view is wrong but I don’t think that choising Takumi has been a mature choise, but a selfish choise.

Weird request but I was wondering if I could hug Frieza or Cell? Or maybe both? You don't have to draw it but I would love it if you did
