Kick-Start Your Anti-Consumption Journey With These Ideas
Feeling stuck in a cycle of shop, de-clutter, shop? Here's a fun way to challenge the itch to go shopping.
Take Inventory
Think about the thing you spend the most money on. Is it clothes? Makeup? Skincare? Take note of what you own, and make a list. How often do you use these products? Which get the most use? If you find yourself having one too many lipsticks, make it a goal to use the ones you have for x amount of time before purchasing another one.
Go One Week Without Buying Anything
Of course, this doesn't apply to your groceries! But really put in the effort to step back from buying anything like clothes or other trinkets. When you feel the urge, think about how you're feeling and doing. Do certain emotions trigger your shopping itch, or maybe certain friends and locations?
Put Your Heart Into a Hobby
When was the last time you dove into a hobby? Now before you take this as an excuse to go shopping for supplies you'll most likely lose interest in after a few weeks, use what you already have, or join a no-buy group and see what you can find.
Find Gratitude
You're not the only one who feels a great sense of dissatisfaction, or feels like the next item you purchase will be "the one." The thing is, this feeling will not be satiated by any item, at least for very long. Find gratitude for what you already have - these items once brought you joy.
