Ghost is a study of model Natasha Poly. An investigation into the obsessive behavior of the public eye and it’s lingering effects on those chased and caught by it. The piece utilizes multiple shots, all presented head-on, giving the audience an opportunity to experience the deconstruction of an icon as it strips the beauty out of fashion.
Credits
Are much easier to work with in CS6. I found that CS4 struggled if the list of credits needed was going to be longer than one page. This is something that was being complained about in a lot of online forums. In CS6 adobe have fixed the problem and made it much easier to create rolling credits that move slowly and are readable without going fuzzy. Thankfully!
If you've been erratic about tagging your posts correctly when linking or uploading stuff to Tumblr (like me) this link gives great clear instructions about how to batch edit (or delete) a whole group of posts. I was able to make sure that all my project 2 posts are now correctly tagged.
Project 2 - The Gift (Dogboy) Synopsis
One ordinary morning, Dogboy is finishing breakfast at a lesurely pace, when the mail arrives. In one envelope is a gift of chewing gum, which he tastes but hates. When he tries to throw the gum in his bin, it sticks to him instead, splashing all over his apartment. The more he struggles with it, the further the gum spreads until he is covered from head to foot in it! Eventually he gives up his struggle and weeps. His tears dissolve the gum and he is able to free himself and wipe away all traces of it from his apartment. He is exhausted and goes back to bed, sleeping long into the night.
The original ending planned instead had a new envelope arrive, with a gift of gum. This time he would mark the envelope with Return to Sender and post it back through his door. We changed the ending as we were tuckered out after hours of shooting and needed to wrap the story up more quickly.
More detailed than we need for a class, but a useful brief introduction to what a synopsis should include and how to write one.

I think everyone at ACarts should have a tumblr.
It would be great to see process and inspiration.
You're right! I blog about my projects as I'm working on them, but tumblr is so easy if there's not a lot of writing :)
Almost finished our first stop motion project for digital media class. This has over 500 still images, 2 transitions, and was edited in Premiere by complete novices :)
We're hoping to add a title page, fix up the credits, and add music or sound effects.
This was helpful but I wish I understood why it worked and what the settings actually mean!
Notes from Fourth Meeting
Monday, 8 April
Myself, Phil and Jasmine come to DM class with our shots.
There's a great deal of confusion with our regular tutor missing and the stand in tutor only briefly available.
I upload all of the shots into Premiere, as movie clips from sequences of stills, and fit them to the frame, and slow their duration of play down to stop motion levels.
Jasmine creates the rolling credits.
Phil suggests he will record sound effects and find music for the video over the week.
I export the movie as a 340mb file to everyone's USB.
Notes from Third Meeting
Thurs 4th April 6pm, my place
Jasmine and myself attend, Phil sends apologies.
Jasmine and I both set up the camera, play with angles and lighting, and block out the movements of Dogboy. After that we split our roles. I do all the movement of the model and props, while Jasmine takes all of the shots on the camera. It's very slow to do and I quickly get tired and achy having to lean into the set, avoiding bumping the camera or light, to make very small adjustments to the model or props with my arms stretched to full reach. As the night marches on we decide to alter the finish of the story and send our character back to bed rather than the extra mail delivery and return to sender orginally planned.
At the end of the night we upload the images, remove any problem shots, and sequence them correctly. We decide to cancel the next planned meeting as we've finished the editing already and don't need an extra meet up.
Phil and Jasmine plan for an extra meeting to help catch him up but it falls through.
Notes from Seond Meeting
1 April
Myself and Jasmine attend, Phil sends apologies.
I create the model 'Dogboy' from PMC, fire, and paint him. I also create some props; the taps and door handle, fire and paint them.
Jasmine creates the set, painting, constructing, and furnishing it to scale with Dogboy.
Notes from First Meeting d
25 March
Phil, Jasmine and myself meet up to decide upon the Story, Method, and Delegation of roles.
We discuss various ideas we each had, and decide upon the idea of chewing gum as a metaphor for problems in life (ie something sticky that is difficult to get rid of). We like the idea of sound effects. Our initial story outline is this:
Beginning:
Mailed a bit of gum
chews it
tries to get rid of it and can't
Middle:
Frantic struggle
everything goes to hell
End:
Crying melts the gum
Cleans up the apartment
New letter received
Marks 'return to sender'
We discussed various methods such as making items from paper, painting them, or fabric. We decided in the end to create a 3D model from polymer clay and a diorama studio apartment from fabric, paper, and card. Our diorama would need to be a studio apartment with:
bed
dining table
window
door with post hole
kitchen space
table
Props required:
letter
'chewing gum' - lots of it to cover the apartment
Model:
One PMC model person with wire joints to move arms and hands
We need to:
Make props, model, set, and create storyboard
Shoot images
Organise and edit images
Assemble in Premiere in class week 9 (April 8th)
We arrange to meet on Mon 1 April, 2pm at my place to make props, model, set, and storyboard.
We arrange to meet on Thurs 4 April, 6pm my place to shoot all images.
We arrange to meet on Sun 7 April, 2pm to upload and edit all images.
