Our room at Tahuayo Lodge with two hammocks, a four poster bed and two singles .. Living the dream! There were only a few people at the lodge too due to the floods which meant the water was up to 5 metres above normal levels
The ride to Tahuayo Lodge up the Amazon
This was our first morning in Iquitos the gateway to the Amazon of Peru. We went to the local market to discover all sorts of delights and some not so delightful things. The frothy mix of beer, eggs and sugar was particularly yum!
After a very long day we made it! To a hotel with a loud bar with banging music next door .. I'm too tired to care and we need to be up again in 8 hours so time for an early night and tomorrow the jungle! I did enjoy seeing beautiful fluffy clouds and pink tipped mountains as well as Brazilian jungle from the sky.
First leg of the trip complete with tulips from the air. Next stop Lima!
Two days to go and the next adventure will begin. We are heading off to Peru for a few weeks starting in the Peruvian Amazon. Despite terrible floods to the area we are still all systems go and the excitement is starting to set in. After a couple of weeks of jungle we are then heading to Cuzco and the famous Inca Trail (alternative version though it may be).
Lazy last day in the Dam .. Mint tea and daffodils
The friendly house cat ..
Amsterdam leisurely lunch .. Thank goodness the sun is shining ..
Zaanse Schans windmill area and cocoa deliciousness
Quaint Edam with delicious cheese and delightful kitties
Lovely bar in the Dam for some fresh mint tea and apple cake ..
Tiny town of Marken for a gander before heading back to the Dam. No tourists venture here in this weather it would seem so time for some warmth.
Adventures in old Holland. Between Edam and Marken we got off the bus and wandered through Broek in Waterland which was very charming even when grey.
We went on the hunt for waffles after dinner .. Found these delights in the red light district and wandered back via a bright moon to the windmill area we are staying in. Looking forward to exploring old Holland tomorrow and some working windmills in the country.
We went back to the room for a siesta after a day of bitter wind and rain freezing us to the core only for this to have happened when we awoke
