That's more of a question for the mentalist, but I can make an educated guess.
Based on what I've learned from Asagiri Gen, and from observing a reliable reference @sarui-in-darkness, I can say that eighth grade syndrome comes from a desire to be cool but having no earthly idea as to how that actually works. It all links back to the hormones in your brain that make you crave social interaction. Oxytocin, dopamine, all that good stuff I've talked about ten billion times before. Then, I'm guessing that when you have interests that differ from that of your peers and at the same time you lost the part of your brain that experiences shame, you're on the path to becoming a chuuni. Just a guess.

True. I marched tenor sax, percussion was just an extra thing I tried out a couple times for concerts. Was mainly placed on kit or concert bass.
I also used him for the band that was temporarily formed for the school festival. He’s a lot better than he claims to be.
