“oh, it’s you. you know i was wondering when we’d cross paths, i’ve heard about you, you know. well, more so about your—“
his voice trailed off and he looked at sasha, a look of aversion on his face as he pointed his finger at the other’s hair. his voice dripped with sarcasm at the first few words
“infamous haircut, for a lack of a better word. seriously, it looks as if you just ‘ook a pair of kitchen scissors and started absentmindedly hacking at your hair. if looks could kill, you certainly wouldn’t have to worry about being a murderer”
he let his arm fall back to his side, and suddenly, an awkward air blew past them. everette itched at his arm slightly, looking off to the side where the ocean resided and the waves rose and fell like breaths. he took a breath of his own.
“i overheard you missed your mother. how childish, missing someone so far out of reach. grow up, would you? reminiscing will get us nowhere”
from the corner of his eye he met sasha’s, the grey of his piercing into the other. everette’s words, although blunt and sharp, seemed to falter at the ends. if was as if, past his irises, held some mutual understanding that he couldn’t push forth.
"...and who might you be? I wasn't aware people were talking about my haircut. I guess I'll give you credit where credit is due, you came up to me and said it... I respect that I suppose. Not many would. "
"Actually that is sort of how I got my haircut you're not completely wrong, my mother did it for me when I misbehaved."
"Talking about looks is so shallow don't you think? I already know I'm not good looking. But do you seriously think anyone could be with a insufferable piece of shit just because of their face? Well I guess we all have different views on things".
[an uncomfortable feeling in the boy's chest began to bubble as the tension between them got thicker with each word Everette said]
"Maybe mind your business! I know missing my mother won't get us anywhere. But I can still miss someone dear to me. grow up yourself before telling anyone else to. You came up to me just to spout nonsense! Don't you think that's childish itself"
[Sasha looked back at Everette quickly gazing elsewhere not wanting to look eye to eye at the other boy]
"I won't give you the satisfaction of seeing me upset."
