Little Moments #12: In Line
Jim turned was in line at his favorite buffet when he felt a tap on his shoulder. Standing to his left he saw Marcus standing there. He was wearing a crisp, clean suit. He was freshly shaven and clearly doing well since he was promoted six months ago. Jim was one of the finalists for that role and was passed over for one reason or another. Marcus was a nice guy and deserved the job, but he was a little cocky as a former frat bro. Jim was still bitter. It led to a few too many trips to the buffet and local restaurants. And, suddenly, as he stood next to his former coworker, realized all those massive and frequent meals were beginning to show. Marcus just smiled at him and said it was nice to see him. But his eyes seemed to linger on his growing paunch. Jim looked embarrassed as he heard Marcus return to his group and say, “Wow! You’re right; it was him! Didn’t know you could get that fat in six months.”
