many of you probably already know that Dongwoo's father passed away last night after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed illness. i saw this news first from fansite masters and South Korean news organizations, and it has been confirmed on the official Japanese site via a notice about the upcoming concerts in Japan. though this blog is inactive, i felt obliged to make a post about this – not only to let my followers know in case you don't already, but also to express my condolences for Dongwoo and his family. though i did not personally get the chance to meet Mr. Jang, many fans did, and all of us came to know him in another way: by coming to know the son he raised, and seeing the values, attitudes, and worldviews he instilled in his children. by all accounts, he was a bright, cheerful, positive man who supported his son and daughters in all their endeavors and worked hard to provide the best he could for his family. our lovely Dongwoo is lovely thanks in no small part to the efforts of his father, who brought him up to be the loving, caring, and hardworking man he is today. i am not sure what else to say; i'm not sure there really is anything else to say. i only hope that, in memory of Mr. Jang, we can all be kinder to ourselves and others around us today (and tomorrow, and every day). and i hope that as Dongwoo's fans we can all give him whatever space he needs in the coming weeks and months and years — physical space, temporal space, emotional space — to come to terms with his loss. thank you for reading. i hope everyone has a peace-filled day.
