Hello wine enthusiasts.
It is Julie again - I recognize I have not been very proactive when it comes to this blog lately. Good thing there's two owners. :)
On Saturday we had a party, and we also had a blind wine tasting. We asked everyone to bring one bottle from the grocery store, and one bottle from Total Wine (or another wine store). Altogether I think we ended up with 18 bottles of wine to taste, and that's not including other wine that people brought or that we already had. There were a few surprises within this tasting. For example, a 3 dollar bottle of wine tasted rather fabulous, whereas a wine from a winery (that I had previously enjoyed) got low marks. In the end we had some 19 year old win the competition. Call me skeptical, but I'm sure he cheated....
So here's a picture of some of the wine. A lot of it we finished drinking, and a lot of it we dumped out due to sheer grossness.
Here is the wine that cost me 3.29 at Trader Joe's
Charles Shaw, 2012 Cab Sauv from California. When I grabbed it I expected it to taste and smell more like rubbing alcohol. I was surprised when we did the big reveal to see I gave this wine a 4 out of 5. Does this mean I'll re-buy it? Maybe once, just to make sure I actually like it. To be fair to myself, I was at a point in the evening where I had perhaps too much wine.
This is a 30 dollar bottle of wine from a winery my family discovered last month. Although I enjoyed it upon initial tasting, I scored it a 2 out of 5. I was not alone, others scored it the same or lower. Goodness.

There is still some left in this bottle, so I believe that will be my next wine post. I want to see if I really don't like it, or if my tongue betrayed me.
All in all it was a successful night, and both Ryan and I enjoyed ourselves immensely.
