Wherever you are in your life...whatever battles you've won or lost...there's still a fighter inside of you. Let that fighter live on. Fuel your body by eating, drinking. And thinking positively to your health.
Try new fruit. Featured above is a blood orange and Indian buttermilk.
Don't forget your veggies are just as important as your fruit.
Dessert: yogurt and banana ice cream with freshly shredded coconut and red beet purée served with a German cookie and strawberry.
Directions: Mix a banana with 1/4-1/2 of yogurt. Freeze.Â
Beet Puree: Bring water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Reduce heat (until bubbles are soft) and cook beets until tender (about 10 to 15 minutes). Drain beets and rinse with cold water for three minutes to stop the cooking process.

Once the banana yogurt cream is semi-hard, place the cookie and strawberry into the top of the dish. Top with freshly grated coconut and beet puree.Â
Serving: 1-2 small dishes.Â
Are you having difficulty making the changes that you need to be the healthiest version of yourself? Spend your time watching documentaries to get fooducated on what you’re putting into your body. Eat to live, don’t live to eat.
The American diet is fueled with tradition, culture, and marketing that makes you consider food that harms us as “normal”. For a good place to start getting fooducated, start with documentaries. I have generated a list of what I view as some of the current top documentaries below. Most of the documentaries in this list can be found on netflix or online.
Hungry for Change http://www.hungryforchange.tv/
Earthlings http://earthlings.com/
Food Matters http://www.foodmatters.tv/
Vegucated http://www.getvegucated.com/
Fat, Sick, & Nearly Dead http://www.fatsickandnearlydead.com/
Super Size Me http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0390521/
Food, Inc. http://www.takepart.com/foodinc
Forks over Knives http://www.forksoverknives.com/
Food Fight  http://www.foodfightthedoc.com/
Killer at Large http://www.killeratlarge.com/
The Beautiful Truth http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1288553/
Keep in mind that you don’t need to start by implementing everything that you learn from these documentaries. Simply watch the documentaries and begin by making small changes. For example, if you eat meat, begin by being a weekday vegetarian. Cutting back will have a major impact on your health, animals, and the environment itself.
If you’re unsure of what to eat - avoid animal based foods and processed foods. In other words, if it has a mom and a dad - don’t eat it! Select whole foods in their most natural state to work towards eating cleaner. Incorporate exercise and before you know it, you will feel better, look better, and leave a smaller footprint. Don’t super size your life or your problems - super size your courage!
Fact: Dr. Campbell found in his research, the China Study, that animal products have a direct link to cancer. Dr. Campbell grew up on a dairy farm, but became a vegan after seeing the results from his own research. The biggest argument may be that whole foods don’t provide enough protein without meat. False. Get fooducated, watch the documentaries above and those who have studied the effects on animal and plant nutrients. Nutrients from animal foods promote cancer growth. While nutrients from plant foods decreases cancer growth. Places in the world that do not have access to the typical “American Diet” have lower instances of obesity, cancer, and heart disease. That alone, should be a good indicator to you that it’s time for a change!
Growing up and attending schools or family dinners, we have learned what a “healthy diet” consists of. It’s time to open our minds, unlearn, and re-learn what a “healthy diet” actually means. Not all of us can get it right all of the time, the message I am trying to portray in this post is to encourage you to get fooducated, and begin by making a few healthier choices than what you normally would. Watch your taste buds and body change over time. Healthier food choices will have an impact in more areas that you can imagine. See where it takes you!
Lose the mayo.
Make your own condiments and sauces from whole food and herbs. For example, blend one avocado, fresh parsley, cilantro, and chives. Use it as a pasta sauce, salad dressing, spread, or even a veggie dip.
Let food be thy medicine, and let thy medicine be food.

Zucchini pizza poppers.
Ingredients: Roasted garlic marinara, fresh Parmesan, and seasoning: Oregano, Basil, and Red pepper flakes.
Directions: top like you can’t stop. Bake in the oven at 400 for 15 minutes. Serve warm.
Experimenting with flavors. Brown rice with sauteed vegetables and cilantro. Side sauce of roasted red peppers.
Tropical sensation.
Ingredients: 1 old coconut, kiwi, pomegranate berries, lemon, green apple, chocolate, sugar, water.
Directions: Cut the coconut in half - save the coconut water to add to your juice or smoothie or as a shot to serve with the dessert.
Next, melt chocolate and place in a small squeeze bottle. Drizzle the chocolate across the coconut as desired. Dice up desired fruit (kiwi, pomegranate berries, green apple). Squeeze lemon juice over the apples to stay fresh and not brown.
To make the crystal topping - simply heat sugar and water in a pot. Stir until it begins to boil. Once it begins boiling, watch the color of the water. The darker it gets the more "caramel like" it will become. For a lighter look, use before it goes brown in color. When you lift the mixture with a fork, it should leave almost a spiderweb style string. At that point, remove from stove, Take fork and route the sugar back and forth throughout a stainless steel bowl until you have the desired amount. Let it cool. Carefully remove from the stainless steel bowl to use for topping.
Serve cold.
Tip: Save the coconut water to add to your morning juice, or drink after a workout as it provides electrolytes. Or save the coconut water or meat for a smoothie. For a softer coconut meat and more water, use a young white coconut. For tougher meat and less water, use an older coconut as pictured above.
Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."
Howard Thurman (American Theologian, Clergyman and Activist. 1900-1981)
Make it an effort to try a new fruit or veggie every time you go grocery shopping. Pictured above: Jackfruit.
Having difficulty getting enough veggies into your diet? Make Homemade veggie soup. Broccoli, onions, kale, carrots in a veggie broth.
