Contrary to growing popular belief, Peeta is a VASTLY more complex character than Gale.
Shout out to @glimmeringpearl for getting my juices flowing on this, and please check out her post that I re-blogged yesterday.
Anyway, Gale is reflective of the majority of Panem. There are thousands of people around him at any given time that act and think just like him. He fell for the anger and division the games were designed to create on countless occasions. Again, just like the majority of people. He has a revolutionary spirit, yes, but with no gauge within it that could materialize it on his own (more on that later). Katniss conducting more analysis on him ≠ more complex; in fact, it says the opposite.
Peeta utterly puzzles Katniss a number of times. She cannot make sense of him, though we know she rather passionately attempts to, and it’s to the point where she often times just gives up on trying. THAT is how complex he is. PEETA is the radical one in this society for daring to choose humanity over brutality. He broke the status quo. A child abuse victim who has the brute strength to be exactly what the Capitol desires, yet is the designated character to symbolize peace throughout the series. And when he inspires Katniss to tap more into her own similar qualities and showcase them alongside him, THEY are the catalyst that spark the revolution Gale merely rode the wave of. And just like Peeta overcame his childhood of violence, he overcame his hijacking without us ever knowing how exactly he managed to. The important part is that he DID, and his kind nature could never be stomped out for good.
To be clear, both characters are incredibly complex. Suzanne put so much work into crafting their arcs, and I will never set out to indicate otherwise. But it is Peeta who is more often taken for granted and looked over, even by those who love his character sometimes, simply because his actions are often undefinable (again, complexity in and of itself) and less aggressively imposed.

Someone online makes a comment about how Shane probably isn’t a very good boyfriend, saying his flat affect and resting neutral face in paparazzi pics and video must mean he’s detached and not affectionate compared to Ilya who is much more overtly affectionate
Ilya then has the rest of the Centaurs help him make a compilation of secretly filmed Shane moments showing how good a boyfriend he is
Ilya doing the “would you still love me if I was a worm?” thing and without missing a beat or asking any questions Shane just goes “Yeah”
Harris films himself asking Shane random Ilya questions and Shane always having an answer. “Hey what Ilya’s favorite milkshake flavor?” “Mint.” “I’m buying everyone fun socks, what’s Ilya’s favorite color?” “Blue, but only if it’s light, he doesn’t like dark blue.” “What’s Ilya’s favorite fruit?” “Pears.”
Troy waits for Shane to sit on the bench looking at his phone or tying his skates then says “Oh hey Ilya’s coming in” and catches multiple examples of Shane immediately scootching over to one side to make room for Ilya to sit next to him
Ilya puts his feet up on Shane’s lap silently and Shane starts lightly massaging them. Ilya lays his head on Shane’s shoulder and Shane starts quietly playing with his hair
They film Ilya handing Shane random things and asking him to hold them and Shane does without question. The internets favorite is the one where Ilya pulls a pineapple out of his bag and asks Shane to hold it and he agrees, getting his gear on one handed so he can keep holding the pineapple in the other
Hayden gets a video of Shane letting Ruby brush his hair and fill it with clips while he and Jade do Ilya’s nails, Ilya laying with a face mask and cucumbers over his eyes and his head on Shane’s lap
gee i hate it when the ominous people in lab coats come out of my fridge and describe my pills side effects like honestly
I would appreciate if my antidepressants worked 🥴
I am so beyond dysphoric right now
I just know that Shane was one of those kids who didn't speak til three and when he did he busted out a full sentence one day and that sentence was, "Jason stole my FUCKING crayons" followed by a WHAP as Shane hit Jason and Jason hit the floor and Yuna and David were summoned immediately to the school to have an Important Conversation and David sat there the entire time staring at Yuna out the side of his head because Shane did NOT get those "interpersonal skills" from the mailman and Yuna's only response to the entire conversation was, "Well. Did Jason steal his fucking crayons???"
Twenty-three years later Ilya Rozanov dies on a floor in Ottawa after hearing this story for the first time.

Connor/Ilya as "The Fallen Angel"
@bipolar4autistic made a post that refused to leave me until I stayed up past my bedtime to do this
i know shane was probably a montreal fan growing up, because yuna was a fan. but when he gets drafted by them in ep one, he says they're his mom's favorite team specifically, not his. And shane grew up in Ottawa, so he definitely went to centaurs games as a kid. And baby shane hollander definitely had arguments at recess in elementary school debating the centaurs playoff chances. he had the jerseys, he had the posters and fun merch, he probably watched all the games. baby shane hollander was a centaurs fan.
what i'm getting at is, obviously ilya went to ottawa to be closer to shane, and to be in canada and get citizenship. the plan made sense. but also. also. it was shane's idea. and shane hollander literally sent his favorite hockey player, one of the best players in the league, to probably his favorite team as a child to make them good again. and it worked.
Hudcon text posts ✨
ive seen the theory floating around that the hollanov wedding didn't have chairs because they weren't sure that everyone they invited would attend (like the v0y*g3rs not coming despite shane giving them everything for over a decade) so they'd overshoot and end up with a bunch of empty chairs to look at on the most important day of their lives and while that may have played a part in it I also can't stop thinking about what other empty chairs there might have been that day
would they have put a chair out for irina? during on of their "wedding planning dinners" where they didn't really plan much because shane and ilya weren't even that excited for a wedding they were just excited to be married. do you think one of the hollanders would have bought it up, soft voiced and cautious, wanting to honour irina on that day, give her a space there, and ilya was struck with the reminder that his mama wouldn't be there to see him marry the love of his life?
cause I think the idea of an empty chair would send ilya into a tail spin. but not having a space for her might be even worse because she was and will always be so important to ilya. having everyone else that loves them sitting there and watching them and there being nothing for irina is worse than a physical representation of the hole she left in ilya's life, but he doesn't want to think about that, either
and shane realises this, he knows ilya better than anyone else in this world, so what if he's the one to suggest "why do we even need chairs?" the ceremony won't be especially long. they've not written their own vows. their love is theirs. anything they need to say to each other they've already said and they will keep saying them for the rest of their lives. just the standard I take thees and then they're done. who needs chairs for that? besides, they'll just ruin the grass
so no. they don't have chairs on their wedding day. they don't need them. they're surrounded by the people they love, showing them a fraction of how much they love each other. and irina is there, like she always is, on a golden chain near ilya's beating heart
