What really gets me about this whole Zutara vs Kataang thing is that some Zutara shippers act like the two ships are on equal footing lol.
They act as if Katara, Aang and Zuko were in a love triangle in the show and that Katara should a have chosen Zuko. Like no girl that didn’t happen lol. It was never going to happen. Why even try to compare them.
Are we really doing this? Are you going to try to tell me that Zutara is better than the cosmic soulmatery of Kataang whose development literally starts the first episode of the show? In this ship war, one side is showing up with a nuke and the other with nerf guns.
I feel like Zutara as a ship is popular because of the aesthetics and so much of the FANON surrounding it. And let’s be honest, a lot of people just love Zuko and use Katara as a self insert. I won’t even get into how logistically within the show it would have made no sense
But I also don’t think people who like Zutara are delusional. I’ve literally shipped two characters over less, and the show even jokes about the two of them being together. There’s obviously stuff to work with there. Zuko and Katara’s transition into friendship is so well written, there are some obvious parallels between them. There’s just a particular sect of Zutara shippers that just fucking HATE Kataang, and even deeper hate Aang.
Like if you ship them whatever who cares this post isn’t about that, but don’t try to somehow make it seem as though Zutara should have happened lol.
Katara and Aang’s relationship (platonic and romantic) is integral to the narrative. Kataang just has poetry that Zutara will never have.
