Looks pretty bad…” She nodded at the cast and started to wrap the bandage back around her wrist. “It’s not broken, so it’ll have to do for now—” Kelsey smiled and stood up, letting her arm relax down by her side. “Ice, pain killers and not smacking it against walls and the swelling will go down.”

“It was about two months ago?” Sawyer tried to remember knowing it was at least August. She smiled, nodding at the girl. “Heat helps too... don’t just ice the whole time.”

“There you are. I thought I was going to wither away to dust. Remind me to never tag along with you anywhere again, slow poke.”

“Yo fuck you JJ, I got one arm.”

“I’ll take care of you.” Jase replied, pressing her lips to the other’s neck. “And I’ll spoil you while you lay in bed. Make up for everything I should’ve done when I was gone.”

Sawyer hummed softly, feeling her girlfriend’s lips dance along their neck. “Jase...” She whispered, not sure why she sounded like she was speaking like it’d be the last time. Maybe it was just the heat of the moment... or more of the aching. “I love you.” Sawyer hummed, almost as a reminder to the both of them. Despite the recent scuffle with Adrian, the blonde never doubted where her loyalty was. She’d loved Adrian in the past and probably would always love him, but not the way she loved Jase.

Kelsey nodded her head and spotted the cast on the blonde’s body. “Holy shit, what did you do?” She asked with a laugh, wincing as she got too carried away and twisted the wrist too quickly. “I’m kind of hoping it’ll just be better by tomorrow. If not, I’m going straight to the doctor. Fell off my bike, busted that all up… And this, too.”

“I got in a car accident.” Sawyer explained, glancing down at the cast than back at the woman. She nodded as she looked over the wound, “Things like that don’t usually heal up on their own, hun.”

Jason felt horrible. She hated seeing Sawyer cry, especially whenever she was the cause of it. The tightening in her stomach refused to go away, even though she held her girlfriend as tightly as possible, enjoying the feeling of her lips against her neck. “Let me make it up to you.” She whispered, free hand resting on the waist.

“How?” Sawyer asked curiously, pulling back from the kiss and still keeping her arms tight around the brunette. “I have a broken arm...” She sighed, knowing there wasn’t much they could do that could be comfortable. “All I have been wanting to do since is lay in bed.”

“Ow—” Kelsey muttered to herself as she sat outside the studio in Westbrook, perching on the edge of the sidewalk to minimise obstruction to those walking down the street. The bandage around her wrist was covering a large scuff that came from falling off her bike a couple of days before, but she was yet to get it checked out. “Wow…” She was talking to herself and holding the injured wrist up to the light, wiggling her fingers slowly to see just how much it hurt. “Impressive.”

Sawyer looked over at the woman who’d unwrapped her wrist, glanced at her own cast. “You really should get that checked out... it could be infected.”

“Even better. The less chances of you saving me, the better.” Sawyer smiled, bumping Jak’s shoulder with her cast. “I’m out of it next month… then I’ll be back Halloween to do all the crazy runs for alcohol poisoning and the usual halloween craziness.” She pointed out, whining slightly in frustration. “You could always bring me chicken nuggets back and we can still eat them together.” She suggested, even though they both knew it wouldn’t be the same.

“Oh Halloween, my favorite day of the year.” There wasn’t any better day to work in his opinion. “Oh I’ll keep that in mind for tomorrow. Cause I’m off already – you got more paper work?”

"Yes, I'll be back for then." Sawyer nodded, smiling at her partner. "You have tomorrow off? Maybe I just won't show up. The paperwork will still be here."

“That is amazing.” Sawyer nodded, knowing that babies were absolutely amazing. She sighed, totally over this whole cast ordeal. “I just want to pull it off every five seconds.” Sawyer smiled, thinking about Jak. “He better miss me…”

“That’s very understandable. Just imagine how amazing it’ll feel when you finally have it off though, next month.” She smiled. “Of course he does! I know I would if I was him. Anyway, what else is going on in your life?”

"That's what I keep thinking about." Sawyer nodded, smiling. "You're buttering me up, honey:" The blonde waved the other off, laughing lightly. "Nothing too exciting... my girlfriend finally came home from her trip to Texas. It's gonna be nice not being so lonely in the apartment."

“I need my car fixed... obviously.” Sawyer pointed out, crossing their arms over their chest, their light blue cast banging lightly. “It needs an oil change.” She explained more.

Jase pulled away when she heard the blonde’s tone of voice change, wiping away her tears with her thumbs. “I’m so sorry, baby girl.” She whispered, pressing a kiss to her forehead as she held her, closing her eyes as she held the other girl.

Sawyer leaned her face into Jase’s hands, feeling her thumbs come up to wipe tears that spilled down her cheeks. “Don’t be.” She muttered, shaking her head, hoping that the brunette wouldn’t have to leave again any time soon. Sawyer hugged her tightly, pressing sweet kisses along her neck.

“Its still incredible.” Sawyer nodded, walking along with Hazel and sighing lightly. “Yeah, I’m okay… the only complaint is I have to use a ruler to itch under the cast.” She laughed, glancing down at the blue material. “But I’ll be out of it next month… and then back on the road, thank god. I’m so over desk duty and I don’t know how Jakob has been surviving without me.”  

“Yeah, it is. It’s amazing what you’re capable off, only a couple of hours after you’re born, you know? The strength is just… It’s fantastic,” said Hazel and smiled softly at the thought. “That does sound like a lot of effort just to itch, but if anyone can do it, it’s you.” She said encouragingly. “I’m glad you’ll be back on the road soon again, I can only imagine how lonely it is for Jak without you.”

I’m not the strongest swimmer and I know I’d feel obligated to jump in and save you.” Jak laughs, nodding his head at the mention of his new partner. “Exactly — so how much longer before you’re back? I need you, Sawyer!” He smiles at their traditions. “I haven’t been able to have nuggets the same without you.”

“Even better. “Surprisingly enough they’re probably the biggest of the biggest I work with, but yeah… Still very tiny,” said Hazel and sighed harmlessly. She loved her work almost more than anything else, but it was tough sometimes, more often than never. “What?! That’s terrible! Oh my God… Sawyer… I’m so happy you’re okay though. You are okay, right? Yeah that’s- that is really ironic, but still not great though.”

“I will.” Jase murmured, kissing her back deeply as she brought her hands up to cup her face, slowly walking backwards with her towards the bathroom. “I’ve been gone for too long.”

Sawyer didn’t know why she felt so sad all of a sudden, realizing in that moment how much she’d missed Jase. She’d felt so alone and sad when the brunette was gone. Sawyer let Jase lead her backwards towards the bathroom, nodding in agreement to her words. “I missed you.” Sawyer choked out sadly, unable to stop a few small tears that streamed down her cheeks. She especially missed Jase a night... when she laid alone in bed, mind wandering as she played with her cast and wished for the familiar warmth to return next to her.

        “Yeah, it’s almost funny, how ironic it is…” he murmured, eyes drifting down the cast, brows bunched slightly in concern before giving a small shake of his head. “Except it’s not.” Running a hand through his hair in an effort to keep his hands busy from shaking. He tried for a smile at least. “How long do you have it on for? Have you been able to get back on the road yet?”

        He was distracting the both of them with inane questions to avoid talking, or thinking about what had occurred the last time they had spoken. A lot of things were said. Things that hurt, that were unnecessary for him to know, things that were necessary for him to know, and things that were hard to hear. it wasn’t exactly easy for Adrian when Sawyer blurted out that she was intimate with Zoe, Adrian more upset that she had to bring it up at all more than anything. He understood why, though, and he figured he deserved it. She wanted to hurt him. She wanted him to pain the way she had after everything that had happened between Adrian and her. Not shortly after that confession came one more powerful than the last, though. She had loved him. She had loved him and he was too dense to even see it, or know it, until she had to yell it at him months after they were over and done with. She loved him and he didn’t even know. He didn’t think he’d ever forgive himself for hurting her, for being neglectful of her feelings, with that being the case. “I’m okay…” he said with a hard swallow, forcing a smile as she shifted in his footing. There was an awkward silence that ensued, before Adrian lifted up the hand that had the pen in it, twirling it between his fingers with a crooked smile offered. 

                            “Mind if I sign?”

Sawyer felt like crying, just seeing Adrian made her heart ache. Not because she wanted him or still loved him... but because two people who’d been close were now like strangers. “I have it on for another month... right before Halloween it’ll be off.” Sawyer explained, looking down at the cast as she played with the loose piece of string. The silence had fallen over them, the blonde unable to even look up at the man, feeling guilty for the harsh words she’d yelled at him. 

However, upon his small, innocent request, Sawyer glanced up and broke down almost instantly. Tears fell fast and hard from her blue hues, streaming down her face as she threw her arms around Adrian and hugged him. Sawyer’s face buried into his chest, knowing her makeup and tears were probably destroying the white shirt, but unable to move away. He was her friend and the two cared deeply about each other, despite the chapter that they’d never look back on. After what felt like hours of crying, Sawyer pulled away, wiping the tears and makeup from her face with her good hand. “Yes, you can sign it.” She nodded, holding out the blue cast to Adrian so he could scribble his name somewhere.
