YOI Things to Love #59 and #60: Yuuri’s leaping form & late-night dedication
I can’t use this frame and talk about one without mentioning the other.
I love the point of Yuuri’s leading foot as he leaps here. That right there’s some good quality extension through the toes. I’m sure judges love him for his lines and extension on the ice, and it stems from here. I also love how he jumps with good upper body posture – his head up and his chest out. No hunched skating or spinning I bet.
Looking to the background, we see that it’s just past 10:30 pm. After an exhausting day of conditioning to get back to competition weight and strength, he’s continuing into the night with ballet exercises. Talk about stamina. What this also shows, is that he’s spent countless hours in the studio practicing his form – to the point that he can hold beautiful form even after a rough day. It’s that ingrained.
