Just came back from watching the Phantom of the Opera. I’ve waited 11 years to see this show live, well worth the wait and the money. What a privilege to have watched Phantom on its 29th anniversary. I had absolutely no idea until John Owen-Jones made the announcement during the curtain call.

Waited at the stage door for Celinde Schoenmaker (Christine) and JOJ (Phantom) for about 45 minutes in total, well worth the wait. There were so many people waiting so I didn’t have time for more than a selfie but I must say Celinde is a wonderful Christine! Her voice gave me chills. My favourite is still Sierra Boggess though, who I fully intend to meet one day. And of course, JOJ is a musical theatre legend according to Google (musical theatre isn’t a thing where I’m from so don’t be scandalised by my lack of knowledge). Also he trained at RCSSD (where I’m studying now)!!! Apparently he’s doing a short run of Phantom until January so I’m blessed that I got to meet him.

I’m so emotional, Andrew Lloyd Webber is an absolute genius who has blessed the world with such incredible music and a powerfully moving storyline. I have no words for how grateful I feel in this moment. What a way to end my second week in London! :)

Well, in true pre-Mercury Retrograde shadow period fashion, I'm feeling sad and nostalgic. This time, I'm combing through the entirety of my online social media (I think this is the only one left that hasn't been deactivated/privated).

I remember this SO well. 9 years ago (OMG). 2nd week in London, first time being thousands of miles away from "home", living on my own and pursuing my MA (which, sadly, I didn't manage to complete due to circumstances beyond my control). This was also the year Hamilton went to Broadway, and I didn't discover it until...years later I think?? I've obviously since watched it on Disney+, but it's NOT THE SAME. Phantom was my introduction to musical theatre. Well, technically I studied it in school first, then I watched the movie in...2004? And 11 years later I finally got to watch it in person. Missed Love Never Dies, missed the 25th anniversary (and the lightning in a bottle combo of Sierra and Ramin), but it was still one of the best experiences of my life. If I could do London all over again, I'd watch as many plays and musicals as possible. I'm glad I got to witness Andrew Scott in Hamlet before leaving though.

*breathes deeply* just because my life didn't turn out the way I hoped, I'm still hopeful that there's still time to pursue and achieve some of my bucket list goals and dreams. All of this is temporary, including the good things. I've had more bad than good, but I believe (in true Libra fashion) that everything will balance out eventually. Clearly not as quickly as I'd like (hello I'm in my 30s the FUCK) but eventually.

As long as I keep hope alive.

Dear Matt,

Thank you. As a new Critter (2022, how did it take me this long to discover D&D and Critical Role??), all I can say is that the arts has saved me multiple times in my life. The stage. Movies. Music. And now a TTRPG, of all things. I never thought I could be so emotionally invested and enraptured by a game. Sure, some games have tugged on my heartstrings-Final Fantasy 7, The Last of Us, and many more that I can't think of right now because I'm EMOTIONALLY WRECKED FROM EXU: CALAMITY?!??!!??! Like I legit had to go take a nap and I've just caught up on the first half that I missed and had to stop there. I need a few days to process before I rewatch the finale in one go, it was THAT good. Laughter. Sorrow. Heartbreak. The catharsis was much needed.

It's almost 5am in my part of the world, and I'm a sensitive soul who has been going through some really heavy shit in my own life, and Critical Role has been a light in the darkness. So even though ExU: Calamity broke me in the best possible way, it was, at the end of the day, a masterpiece in storytelling. Lightning in a bottle. This is what happens when talent, friendship, trust, kind hearts and a love for storytelling come together. Magic is created.

I wish, more than anything, that we, the human beings that populate this world, planet Earth, could work together like that instead of letting the "real life" equivalents of the Betrayer Gods fill our minds and souls with lies, greed, betrayal and evil. But for now, we have the containment and beauty of the arts to escape to when our hearts are weary.
