Amberstar: an Illustrated Cosmic Odyssey by Bruce Jones (1980, Warner Books). Swipe for more shots. How does one describe this unique book? Perhaps you could say it’s kind of like a nutty book version of notorious Italian Star Wars ripoff Starcrash. In a good way. Consisting of colourised old-school photo collages (or as the book says “the Photo-Multiple® process”) of people acting out scenes in real locations and miniature sets. The story is completely nuts: you get space battles, alien planets, squid things, a hairy chested centaur, a reptile guy, a cyclops, Dinosaurs and a foggy-lens love scene.
