So for the last few months I’ve been working as the head athletic trainer and sports med coordinator for the local pro rugby club. Today I am sad to announce that this has come to an end. On the other hand I am filled with joy because I am walking away on my own terms and with my head held high. To be able to serve as a medical lead/ head ATC as an African American all at the age of 27 in my own hometown of Jersey City has filled my peers and I with nothing but tremendous pride. To serve and help build with a medical team coming into a season where there wasn’t any leadership, little stability, and to create a rehab and sports performance environment that people can be comfortable walking into all the while help athletes daily work towards their higher purpose has been nothing short of a riveting challenge. To not be respected, valued, considered, as well as limited from pouring my heart and soul into the work, tasks at hand, and players has made me abruptly choose to take the higher road back towards a healthier life. To rugby and rugby New York: it’s been real, it hasn’t been all that fun but thank you for all the lessons; they will be cherished on the road less wandered.
