The two nights before Mike gets married will be marked as the nights that changed Mike and Will forever. Truths get brought up, and its just what they need. Even if that means they do something they shouldn't.

It hurt so bad. How was this real?
Will lies flat in bed in his lonely, dark hotel room. The only light left is coming from the window, a tiny sliver of orange peeking out of the space between the two curtains.
Will's heart is beating really fast because in just two nights, he’s going to have to be up on the altar with Mike. But instead of being the one that's in front of him, he’ll be the one that’s behind him.
The wedding rehearsals were painful. Will kept his eyes down the entire time. At some point, he forgot he had to fulfill his duty as best man, even if it was pretend. Suddenly, Mike turned. Will bolted his head up, the eye contact made his heart freeze. Mike’s rehearsal tuxedo, his hair, and his face. He looked perfect. Will couldn't look away, he was so transfixed and hypnotised by it all. Mike broke into a smile. Will fell deeper. “Will?”
Will breathed out a small, “Yeah?”
Will snapped out of it. Right. Rehearsals. He pretended to pass him the ring as he was told. If this was real, Will doesn't think he would survive seeing the diamond slide on her finger with Mike delicately holding her hand, then having to kiss her. Thankfully, he didn't have to see it since it was just practice, for now. Maybe Will could build up some extra strength before the day comes. Or not. Less than 48 hours. Impossible.
Will looks up at the dark ceiling. There was nothing more to feel, nothing more to think. The boy that he’s in love with and has been for 15 years, since they were five years old, is about to become a married man. Mike’s probably with Jade right now, in their hotel room, all jittery and smiley for the wedding. Talking about their future. Whatever it is, Will doesn't want to think of it.
How many years was this going to take? To get over him? Mike has this force on Will and he can't get away. He’s like a damn whirlpool. He just wanted to date him. The love he has for him has felt crushing and suffocating. He envies Jade in every way possible. Her brown hair, her stupid green eyes, her perfectly shaped eyelashes and her moles. What did she have that Will didn't?
Mike is getting married. Will repeats the phrase in his head again and again until tears stream down his face uncontrollably and harder every time. Mike is getting married, Mike is getting married, Mike is getting married. He doesn't wipe them, he just lets them fall. He tries to be quiet so that Lucas and Max don't hear him next door, through the paper thin walls.
He’s being selfish. They’re in Greece, the weather's warm, the beach is a step away, everyone's here and everyone's happy. In two nights, it’s supposed to be the best day of Mike Wheeler's life. But as his best friend, why can’t he just be happy for him?
A knock pounds on the door. “Will! We're all going to get ice cream!” Jonathan's voice muffles.
Will is unable to talk so he doesn't answer back. He pulls his zip-up sleeve over his hand and wipes away the tears and clears his throat. He doesn’t want to go but if he chooses not to, he won’t hear the end of it. “Ok coming!” His voice strains.
Will opens the bathroom light and squints his eyes at the brightness. He looks into the mirror, his eyes puffy and red. He lets out a huge sigh while opening the faucet. “Fuck,” he mumbles to himself.
“Will I need to pee, open up!” Jonathan yells, banging harder at the door.
Will pretends that he doesn’t hear him because letting Jonthan see him like this, Will wouldn't know what to say. So he bottles it all up and deals with it himself.
He waits a few minutes before his eyes simmer down enough. He pulls off his jacket and hangs it up on the hook. He sighs and heads out the hotel room. He’s met with the humidity of the outdoors and a mix of wind that cools his face down.
“I said I needed to pee,” Jonathan stares blankly at him.
They walk towards the ice cream place. On the way, Will passes near Mike's hotel room, next to it is a poster on a stand containing a picture of Mike and Jade. On it there's text in cursive font, “Celebrating: Michael James Wheeler and Jade Marie Hubert.” Will doesn't even spend a second more looking, before he puts his head down and just walks.
