Empty Beds & Bad Behaviors
Jackson couldn’t believe that she would truly be okay with things if he never came back. Scar had more than hinted that she would be but he refused to believe it. Despite his presence in her life being dangerous, a part of him wished for her to want him there. She wasn’t the only person that needed someone though and if it wasn’t Scarlett then he would end up going crazy all on his own for reasons that involved her. Knowing that Scarlett had lost their little girl was one thing, but he would in fact make himself sick with worry if he let go of Scarlett. He tried once and that was how he realized that he needed her more than it was safe for him to admit. It was why he had come looking for her again, after all, even if it meant that he would have to keep an eye on her from afar. “It’s not some bullshit excuse. If it were you would be able to tell. I actually would have no reason to even give you an excuse… I left the first time without a word. Why wouldn’t I do the same if it was bullshit?” he asked her, needing for her to understand that this wasn’t as easy for him to do as she thought it was. “I can’t promise you that I wouldn’t come back.”
He hesitated, and it only made her hate him more. Scarlett decided he was the cruelest of all men. Breaking her heart was like clockwork for him. He'd come around, even against her wishes, make her need him, then he'd leave again. She hated him...she definitely hated him. But Scar refused to give him the satisfaction of knowing she felt anything at all for him. He wanted to leave? Let him fucking leave. She didn't care. She wouldn't cry for him. She wouldn't plead with him stay. Scarlett didn't need anyone in her life who didn't want to be there. "Thanks for the reminder," she replied flatly, forcing herself to sound indifferent. She needed him to know she didn't care, she didn't need him. Yes, she was broken, and yes, it was irreparable, but she didn't need him. "Guilt." The answer was solitary and fell easily from her lips. She'd thought it a million times, shifting uncomfortably even as he held her. This was awkward, and she noticed every little uncomfortable move he made, as if he didn't know how to be here with her...as if he didn't want to be. Scarlett, though, was selfish and never made a comment, never set him free. For the part of him that blamed himself, she blamed him too, and he owed her this much. The tone of his voice was enough to prove that he wanted her to believe but she wouldn't budge. "Just go." Finally she turned to look at him. "I can't stop you from coming back, but I won't want you here. I don't want to see you again."
