“Nothing about me is good.” Kylo spat. Although his tone indicated anger towards Rey, it wasn’t. He hated himself, self-loathing his constant companion. “There is no hope for me. It is too late.”

He knew very little about her life on Jakku, to be honest. It was a subject that had never come up in open conversation and he of all people understood that it was better not to pry into peoples’ pasts when they might have their own monsters to hide there. But what she was saying, what it implied, both appalled him and tossed a bit of kindling on the embers of his former rage. For all his wrongdoings he’d never thought to sell another human being. He simply didn’t have that in him.

She found herself idly taking his hand in her own, stroking her fingers across his, unsure whether it was his comfort she was seeking or her own. Rey wasn’t the greatest at conveying her own feelings, let alone trying to help others with theirs, but she always felt some kind of draw to Kylo, some need to help him if she could. Something made her want to seek his happiness. She felt he deserved happiness — deserved peace — no matter what anyone else believed.

Kylo faltered, panic flashishing across his face momentarily as he latched onto the last thought. “TheSupremeLeader,” he corrected his tone. “Has in fact requested your delivery alive.” Kylo clenched one fist at his side. “So, I’m afraid I must capture you. Though I’m sure we could work out some sort of arrangement if you were to oblige me in this. Certianly, we can ignore the number of times you’ve just broken the law using that name.”

I know much better ways to tempt you back. ❞
