mystery island is racist towards like, indigenous people. everyone is a weird amalgamate of “tribal” stereotypes - think speaking poorly, bones through their noses, that sort of stuff. harmful stereotypes. also the description literally says “watch out for the cannibals” like framing island natives as cannibals isn’t hugely racist lmao.

shenkuu is clumsy and ignorant, more than anything. lots of chinese-based, or general asian stereotypes. not to say you can’t make things inspired by asia and do it well... neopets is just very european and very ignorant. also the description for shenkuu includes the word “exotic” which i’m leery of.

disclaimer here that i’m a white guy, so if anyone more equipped to tackle this either wants to explain or tell me i’m wrong, please, by all means.

Karuiih - pansexual

Kumondi - he gay

Kuritou - bisexual!

Olvara - also bisexual with a hard lean towards women

Sononny - bisexual as well, debating if he’s trans or not. his best friend Tradazel is, i’ll be drawing him soon; maybe they met bc they were both scared trans teenagers?

Lukho, Gadree, and the as-of-yet undrawn Cabnetry are undecided, as they are baby, though I might make Cab trans? we’ll see.

i always wanted a darigan gelert as a kid. always always always. i was looking for one ufa/uft recently when i got a neomail saying “hey, you’re looking for a dari gelert, right? there’s one stuck in the pound. if you don’t like his name, please don’t tell anyone so i can find someone else who wants him.”

but i LOVED his name!

who knows how long Sononny was in the pound, but he’s 4k days old, so it may have been for a while. i will probably work it into his lore, just for fun.

Sononny is the leader of a small gang, consisting of:

Ermile the Darigan Hissi Exhaurire the Halloween Bori Gahw the Darigan Aisha Munarius the Halloween Lupe and Tradazel the Darigan Wocky

trad is sonny’s best friend, but he trusts ermile more with serious matters.

kumondi and cirequi circa 2010 >> kumondi and cirequi in 2020

so, i met tai in... like... 2007? and when i stopped playing neopets, we lost contact. in 2010 or so, i came back, and tai was still around, so that’s where the first pic is from.

fast forward ten years. i come back to neo AGAIN. i’m logged into an old account, and i see “tigerpiece has sent you a neomail” or whatever at the top of my screen. i actually gasped out loud, and put a hand over my mouth.

cirequi used to be mutant, like kumondi, but he’s transparent now. and he has a son! it’s been a long time since he saw kumondi... and kumondi is now a big grump, instead of the doofus i had originally made him. 

it’s fun though. i wub u tai

Kumondi, my mutant lupe! his mutations aren’t super deforming but neither are the “canon” lupe mutations, so,

that said the things going on inside his body might be worse

he wears what is presumably a draik/krawk skull as a sort of, symbol of pride? he runs a small band of other mutants, and as their leader, needs to look decently frightening. 

kumondi is gruff, grumpy, and dead-serious at almost all times. there are only a few neopians who can really break through his hard exterior... Cabnetry, a baby Gelert who wound up in his care, and Cirequi, an old flame.
