The first day of school, no matter what grade or age, is always exciting. Choosing this outfit is just as thrilling, and important to leave a lasting first impression.
This ensemble is perfect for a first day of college! A simple white blouse with a bit of sequin detailing provides a refined look, but with the sleeves rolled up, helps make it more casual. This top will also translate well into the professional workforce once you graduate! To style this shirt appropriately for school, a sleek pair of dark skinny jeans is perfect. Loafers help illustrate your taste for the classics, and this flat shoe is excellent for walking around campus. A simple cross body bag in a dark color will carry all your necessities, and fits nicely into your backpack. All in all, these simple pieces will combine flawlessly together, and help build your wardrobe for the workforce after school.

Kick-start your 2010 training regimen
Scheels fitness expert Heather Corcoran
Does your New Year’s resolution involve some form of physical training? Scheels fitness experts Heather Corcoran and Adrienne Manydeeds understand that no matter what you’re training for – a marathon, a thinner waistline, a sport, or just to achieve new personal goals – a positive result can sometimes be hard to reach if you’re not sure how to go about your workouts.
Heather has experience as a personal trainer and Adrienne worked with personal trainers since she was in eighth grade. We asked them questions about the training process and what advice they have for those who aren’t sure where to start.
SCHEELS: Is there anything specific that your past personal trainers have told you that has stuck with you?
Adrienne: Don’t do the same thing every day. Your body needs different exercises. You won’t be successful if you do the same thing day after day. You need to add things to your workout or change it up.
SCHEELS: If someone is struggling to stay motivated and they’re doing a lot of workouts on their own, do you suggest going to the gym or being around other people?
Adrienne: Get a personal trainer right away. You can learn so much from them. They show you things that you don’t even know. They can make it a lot easier to get into a routine right away. You have to do it because you’ve paid for it. You have to go to your appointment because someone is waiting for you there. I think that it’s good motivation at first to get in that routine. If you struggle after that, find a friend or someone who doesn’t struggle to keep you motivated.
SCHEELS: Hiring a personal trainer is an extra expense that many feel they cannot afford. What’s your response to this?
Adrienne: Even if you do it just one time, you learn a lot. It’s worth it. Heather: Hiring a trainer is a worthwhile investment for anyone, regardless of their fitness level and health. No one would think of performing surgery on ones self. They'd go to a trained professional - a surgeon. The same is true with fitness and nutritional health. With such a vast array of often-conflicting opinion on this somewhat confusing topic, a person can easily feel overwhelmed and end up misinformed. Having a trained professional to sit with you and develop a meal plan and exercise routine might make the difference between great success and colossal failure. Fitness trainers come alongside you and enter your journey with you. Your success and their success go hand in hand.
SCHEELS: Do you currently have any workout partners?
Adrienne: I actually don’t. I almost like to be by myself. It is my time and I can think about stuff. It’s a stress-reliever for me. After personal training, I feel that I know what I’m doing.Heather: Sometimes I enjoy having a workout partner. It works best if it's someone who's highly motivated. When I find the right person who won't let me slack off and skip those last few reps, it can be a real help. We both benefit from each other's competitive nature and enjoy changing up the normal routine.
SCHEELS: Do you log your workouts or keep progress in your head? Do you need to stay organized to stay on track?
Adrienne: I used to a lot. I used to write down the miles so I knew when to change out my shoes. It sounds funny, but it really helps. It’s kind of fun to look back and see what I’ve run. It’s an accomplishment no matter what you do or how much it is. You can see what you do from week to week. It motivates you to do better.
SCHEELS: Heather, what drew you toward being a personal trainer?
I wanted to be a fitness trainer to have the one-to-one contact and not just help them lose weight, but as a person get healthy and get fit to experience change from the inside out.
SCHEELS: How would you describe your experiences as a personal trainer?
It’s probably one of the most inspiring things I’ve ever done, to work with people who generally wanted to transform their lives. I found that each one of my clients had their own story. Obviously, partially for the cosmetic benefits, but they wanted the whole life overhaul. It was very rewarding. A lot of my clients I’m still in touch with. It’s exciting to see who they’ve become as a result of taking care of their health and taking control of their fitness.
